Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia due to abnormalities in insulin secretion and action. The prevalence of DM in the Suak Ribe Community Health Center (UPTD) area was the second highest (731 cases) in 2024. The objective of this community service is to improve patient knowledge and independence in implementing the Five Pillars of Diabetes Management to achieve optimal glycemic control. The implementation methods include Medical Nutrition Therapy (3J principle), physical activity guidance, pharmacological therapy education, and self-monitoring of blood sugar. This program was implemented on April 16–17, 2026, followed by an evaluation on April 20, 2026. The pre-test results showed that community knowledge of the Five Pillars of Diabetes Management was in the sufficient category (44.4%). After the implementation of the activity, the post-test results proved that participants' understanding of the application of the five pillars of DM management increased (94,4%). This indicates that the intervention carried out by the community service team is very effective in improving patient health literacy. In conclusion, increased knowledge and good understanding are expected to encourage patient independence in controlling blood sugar levels.

Abstract

The community service initiative in Batang Kuis Village aims to empower the community through the development of the creative economy—leveraging collaboration across education, science, and technology—to sustainably enhance family income, competitiveness, and well-being. The program involves training in entrepreneurial skills and digital technology utilization, alongside efforts to harness local potential, enabling the community to develop creative products with added value and access to broader markets. A participatory approach is employed, engaging business owners, community leaders, and academics to optimize program outcomes. Key challenges identified include limited access to technology, a lack of knowledge regarding digital marketing, and insufficient collaboration among stakeholders. Analysis indicates that capacity building through education and mentoring will create new business opportunities and boost the competitiveness of local products. The expected impact includes increased family income, job creation, and improved community welfare. Implemented solutions encompass continuous training, the development of digital marketing platforms, facilitation of access to micro-capital, and the establishment of robust collaborative networks among various parties. Abstract

Reading is the foundation of all learning. However, in this digital era, fostering an interest in reading among children has become an increasingly significant challenge; exposure to gadgets and instant entertainment often overshadows the appeal of books. Cultivating a reading habit from an early age is crucial for shaping children into lifelong learners with broad horizons and the ability to think critically and creatively. This activity took place on October 12, 2025, at the *Kelas Teras* Community Reading Center (*Taman Bacaan Masyarakat*), located at Ndalem Rongkot Pendowo, Kranggan, Temanggung. The children participated enthusiastically from start to finish, thanks to an educational approach that was informal, relaxed, and enjoyable. As a result of this activity, the children became more motivated to read books in their daily lives—particularly at the *Kelas Teras* center, which remains open for them to learn and play together.

Abstract

Smoking behavior, particularly the use of electronic cigarettes (vapes), and drug abuse among adolescents have become increasingly concerning public health issues that may adversely affect physical, mental, and social well-being. Limited knowledge regarding the dangers of electronic cigarettes and drug abuse is one of the factors contributing to these risky behaviors. This community service program aimed to improve the knowledge and awareness of students at SMP Negeri 9 Kendari regarding the dangers of electronic cigarette use and drug abuse from an early age. The program was conducted using interactive educational lectures, distribution of educational leaflets, group discussions, and question-and-answer sessions. The educational materials covered the health risks of electronic cigarettes, drug abuse, harmful chemical substances, risk factors, health consequences, and preventive measures. The results demonstrated that the students enthusiastically participated in the program, actively engaged in discussions, and showed a good understanding of the educational materials presented. The improvement in participants' knowledge was reflected in their ability to answer questions correctly and their strong interest in the topics discussed. This activity contributed positively to increasing students' awareness of the importance of avoiding electronic cigarette use and drug abuse as part of promoting a healthy lifestyle. Therefore, continuous health education through collaboration between educational institutions and healthcare professionals is essential to support the development of a healthy, productive, and drug-free younger generation.

Abstract

The growth of social media platforms has facilitated the access and dissemination of information. However, the increasing use of social media has also heightened the risk of hoaxes—false information that can influence people's thinking, attitudes, and actions—particularly among university students, who are active users of digital technology. A lack of skills in evaluating and verifying information makes students susceptible to exposure to hoaxes and contributes to their further dissemination. This activity aims to enhance the understanding and skills of Dharmawangsa University students regarding the identification of hoax characteristics, the verification of information, and the application of ethical standards in social media usage. The approach employed includes information sessions, interactive lectures, group discussions, case study analyses, fact-checking simulations, and assessments via pre- and post-tests. The material covers digital media literacy, the characteristics of hoaxes, information verification methods using credible sources, and the importance of ethics in digital communication. The results indicate an improvement in students' understanding and awareness regarding the risks associated with hoaxes and the importance of verifying information before sharing it with others. Students also demonstrated improved skills in identifying credible information and exhibited greater responsibility in their social media usage. This social media literacy program has proven effective in fostering a critical, intelligent, and ethical digital culture within the higher education environment. The activity is expected to serve as a model for ongoing education to support the creation of a healthy information ecosystem among students.

Abstract

Improper use of food additives and the misuse of hazardous non-food substances such as borax, formaldehyde, rhodamine B, and metanil yellow remain food-safety problems in the community. Low literacy regarding permitted additives, their maximum limits, and label reading increases the risk of exposure. This community-service activity aimed to improve the knowledge of members of PMN (Permodalan Mekar Madani) on the safe use of food additives and the recognition of prohibited hazardous substances. The activity was held at the Faculty of Pharmacy and Science, UHAMKA, Jakarta, on 5 May 2026 with 20 participants, comprising interactive counselling, recognition of product characteristics, and application of the Cek KLIK approach, and was evaluated through a pre-test and post-test. The results showed an increase in the mean knowledge score from 55 to 85, a gain of 30 points (54.55%). This activity concludes that structured education effectively improves partners' food-safety literacy.
