Abstract

This community service article examines a legal counseling and facilitation program on testament deed preparation for older adults and low-income urban families in an urban Indonesian setting. The program was designed in response to the continuing vulnerability of families who possess limited legal literacy, fragmented family communication, and inadequate access to formal legal assistance in inheritance matters. Indonesian civil law recognizes inheritance by testament, while the Civil Code also preserves mandatory portions for certain heirs and places formal requirements on valid wills, making legal understanding essential for prevention of future disputes. Using a qualitative research design embedded in community service, data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, focus group discussions, field notes, and document review during counseling, screening, and facilitation stages. Program participants consisted of 40 individuals, including older adults, family members, community cadres, and neighborhood leaders. The findings indicate that counseling improved participants’ legal understanding, reduced hesitation to discuss end-of-life property planning, and clarified the distinction between testamentary freedom and legal limitations under Indonesian inheritance law. Facilitation further revealed that the main barriers were fear of family conflict, incomplete civil documentation, low confidence in approaching a notary, and misconceptions that wills are relevant only for wealthy households. The article argues that community-based legal outreach can function as an early dispute-prevention strategy by combining legal education, family mediation, and referral pathways to formal legal services.

Abstract

In Indonesia, the rising prevalence of diabetes has been accompanied by an increased risk of complications, adversely affecting quality of life and imposing a substantial economic burden on households. The development of functional food innovations based on locally available medicinal plants represents a promising strategy to support the prevention of diabetes-related complications while simultaneously strengthening community economic resilience. Gynura procumbens (sambung nyawa) is recognized for its bioactive potential, particularly in supporting glycemic control and wound-healing processes under diabetic conditions. This community engagement program aimed to implement appropriate technology for processing G. procumbens into functional cookies while strengthening women’s capacity through the Family Welfare Empowerment (PKK) group. The program was conducted in Sidomulyo Village, Kulon Progo Regency, using a Participatory Community Empowerment approach comprising health education, demonstrations and hands-on production, the application of household-scale processing equipment, and initial mentoring. A total of 40 PKK members participated and were divided into five groups. Participants were actively involved in ingredient weighing, dough preparation, shaping, baking, and product evaluation under the guidance of professional chefs. All groups successfully produced functional cookies, while the community partner received production support consisting of five ovens, mixers, digital scales, baking trays, and aprons. The program demonstrates that research downstreaming can be effectively translated into practical skills based on local resources, with the potential to generate value-added functional food products and serve as an initial platform for developing productive PKK-led microenterprises. The cookie formulation used modified cassava flour (MOCAF), a fermented cassava flour, as the flour base because cassava is readily available in Kulon Progo.

Abstract

The rapid development of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) creates new opportunities for teachers to design learning materials that are more visual, contextual, and efficient. Digital comics are a promising medium because they integrate text, images, dialogue, and narrative into a coherent learning experience. This Community Service Program (PkM) aimed to improve elementary school teachers’ competence in producing AI-assisted educational comics and to examine their implications for learning-material quality and student learning outcomes. The program was conducted at SDN 01 Pagi on May 23, 2026, involving 10 teachers: six classroom teachers, two subject teachers, and two supporting teachers. The activities consisted of needs identification, conceptual instruction, demonstration, hands-on practice, mentoring, product presentation, and evaluation. Evaluation used pretest-posttest scores, a participant satisfaction questionnaire, and product observation. The mean pretest score increased from 57.2 to 84.6 in the posttest, representing a 27.4-point gain (47.9%). Participant satisfaction reached 92.1%, while the quality of the resulting comic products reached 92.0%. All participants produced at least one AI-assisted digital comic. These results indicate that the training effectively strengthened teachers’ readiness and competence in using AI to develop innovative learning media. However, because the program did not directly measure students’ test scores before and after using the comics, the impact on student learning outcomes should be interpreted as a pedagogical implication supported by previous research rather than direct causal evidence. Further mentoring and classroom trials are recommended to establish stronger evidence of effects on learning outcomes.

Abstract

This article examines how technology-based learning mentoring can enhance the motivation of elementary school students living in disadvantaged regions (daerah tertinggal) in Indonesia. Grounded in Self-Determination Theory, the study conceptualizes motivation as a function of autonomy, competence, and relatedness, and explores how technology-mediated support can address these needs under conditions of infrastructural scarcity and digital divide. Qualitative, literature-based meta-synthesis was employed, drawing on empirical studies of digital learning media, interactive applications, and augmented reality, as well as policy documents on ICT integration in 3T (tertinggal, terpencil, terdepan) schools. Findings indicate that technology-based mentoring, when embedded in relational guidance from teachers and community members, can significantly increase students’ engagement, enjoyment, and persistence in learning, while simultaneously improving conceptual understanding and learning outcomes. Technology functions not only as a delivery medium but as a scaffold for autonomy-supportive, competence-enhancing, and relatedness-building practices. However, limited infrastructure, uneven teacher digital competence, and sustainability challenges may constrain implementation. The article proposes a model of technology-based learning mentoring tailored to 3T contexts and offers practical recommendations for schools, local governments, and teacher-education institutions seeking to leverage digital tools to foster student motivation in disadvantaged elementary settings.

Abstract

Limited land in the school area is one of the obstacles faced by schools in the process of developing environment-based learning, especially in optimizing the environmental literacy of elementary school students. The community service activities carried out aim to increase the use of narrow land into educational gardens as a forum for contextual learning at SD Muhammadiyah Abepura, Jayapura City. The implementation method is to use a participatory approach through three main stages, namely the socialization stage, the planting practice stage, and the continuous monitoring stage. The activity was attended by 51 fifth grade students. In the results of the activity, students showed an increase in environmental literacy which was characterized by insight into the need to protect the environment, improved skills in planting practices, and the formation of an attitude of responsibility and cooperation between students. Land use that was previously not maximized in its use turned into an educational garden that has value and is productive. In addition, this activity has also been proven to increase the active role of students in the practice-based learning process. The conclusion of this activity is that the use of narrow land into educational gardens is an effective strategy in developing environmental literacy of elementary school students through participatory and real-experience learning methods. This program is also able to contribute to the success of sustainable development goals, especially in the aspects of quality education and environmental awareness.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to increase the economic capacity of housewives through innovations in processing cassava into Black Sangkola products that have added value, competitiveness, and wider market opportunities. The activity was carried out in Madopolo Village, North Obi District, with the target of housewife business groups who have so far had basic skills in processing Black Sangkola, but still face various limitations in aspects of production, standardization, packaging, marketing, and business management. The implementation method uses a participatory approach through problem identification, socialization, training, production practices, application of appropriate technology, mentoring, and evaluation. The technology applied includes a multipurpose grating machine, mini copper zinc boiler, Black Sangkola molds, trays, scales, and packaging equipment. Non-physical technology is in the form of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), sanitation guidelines, ingredient formulation, packaging, recording production costs, determining selling prices, and marketing strategies. The results of the activities show an increase in partners' abilities in raw material processing, production, packaging, marketing, business management, and financial recording. The average score of partner empowerment increased from 41.0 before the program to 81.0 after the program, or an increase of 40 points with a percentage increase of 97.56%. The N-Gain value of 0.68 indicates an increase in the effectiveness of the medium category. The program produces Sangkola Hitam products that are more hygienic, uniform, have product packaging and identity, and are more ready to be marketed. This activity shows that the utilization of local food potential through appropriate technology and participatory mentoring can be a strategy for economic empowerment of housewives and strengthening household businesses in Madapolo village.

Abstract

The Sido Dadi Farmer Group in Giripurwo Village, Girimulyo District, Kulon Progo Regency generates a large amount of cocoa pod husk waste that has merely been piled around the plantations, while farming still relies on chemical fertilizers and the group has no processed products, product identity, business legality, or marketing channels. This community service program aimed to empower the farmer group through the application of appropriate technology for processing cocoa pod husk waste into compost, liquid organic fertilizer (LOF), and bioherbicide with economic value. A participatory empowerment approach was implemented in three stages, namely awareness, capacity building, and empowerment, comprising focus group discussions, training on good agricultural practices for cocoa, production training and practice, provision of production equipment, packaging design, assistance in obtaining a Business Identification Number (NIB), development of a marketing website, and marketing strategy training. Evaluation was carried out through laboratory testing of product quality and a Likert-scale empowerment questionnaire administered to 25 group members. The results show that the partner is able to produce three products from cocoa pod husk; the compost contains 25.04–27.07% organic carbon with a C/N ratio of 14.07–16.50. The group now holds an NIB under the Indonesian Standard Industrial Classification code 20124, packaging designs for three products, and the biokao.id website as a promotional medium. The proportion of members in the empowered and highly empowered categories reached 87%, whereas initially 52% of members were in the not yet empowered and less empowered categories. The program demonstrates that appropriate technology based on local waste, combined with institutional and marketing strengthening, can foster sustainable farmer group independence.

Abstract

Civic education plays an important role in shaping the young generation to possess national awareness, social responsibility, and an adequate understanding of citizens' rights and obligations. One important concept in civic education is civic culture, referring to the attitudes, values, and orientations of citizens toward social and democratic life. This community service program was conducted at SMA Negeri 1 Tompaso, Minahasa Regency, in response to students' limited understanding of civic culture and civic knowledge. The program involved 35 XII-grade students and was carried out through four stages, namely preparation, implementation, evaluation, and reporting, applying educational and participatory methods that included material socialization, group discussion, case studies, simulation, and reflection. Evaluation used pre-test and post-test measurements across four indicators, namely understanding of civic culture concepts, civic knowledge, tolerance and social solidarity, and awareness of social participation and responsibility. The results showed that the overall average score increased from 60.85 (fair category) to 87.58 (very good category), an increase of 43.93%. The program proved effective in shifting students' orientation from a passive political culture toward a participant political culture, while fostering tolerance and social concern rooted in the local wisdom values of the Minahasa community.

Abstract

This study examines how an integrated digital financial management system and simplified balance-sheet routine can strengthen financial literacy among culinary small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in City X. Because no primary interviews, observations, or enterprise records were supplied, the study adopts a qualitative documentary design rather than claiming a completed field intervention. The evidence corpus combines Indonesian regulatory and survey documents, accounting standards, international guidance, and recent empirical studies on digital accounting and SME finance. Directed qualitative content analysis was applied to identify mechanisms linking digital transaction capture, business–household fund separation, periodic reconciliation, and balance-sheet interpretation with financial knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviour. The analysis identifies five mutually reinforcing mechanisms: transaction visibility, classification discipline, accounting-equation comprehension, evidence-based decision routines, and digital-risk awareness. National data also reveal that financial inclusion continues to exceed financial literacy, indicating that access to digital finance does not automatically generate managerial capability. A staged implementation model is proposed: diagnostic assessment, account separation, digital capture, weekly reconciliation, monthly statement preparation, and reflective review. The study contributes a context-sensitive framework that treats technology and simplified accounting as a combined learning infrastructure rather than isolated tools. Field-based multiple-case research is required before outcome claims can be made for City X.
