Abstract

This study is motivated by the low ability of students in writing descriptive essays in Indonesian language learning, which is caused by the use of monotonous lecture methods and the lack of use of interesting learning media. This causes students to have difficulty determining the right title, generating relevant ideas, composing cohesive and coherent paragraphs, and using punctuation correctly. This study aims to improve the writing skills of fifth grade students of public elementary school Pondok Kopi 08 Pagi through the application of the Think Talk Write (TTW) model with the help of picture media. The research was conducted using the Classroom Action Research (PTK) approach which was carried out in two cycles. Each cycle included planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The research subjects consisted of 26 fifth grade students of public elementary school Pondok Kopi 08 Pagi, consisting of 12 male students and 14 female students. Data were obtained through writing tests, observation sheets, and documentation, then analysed by comparing the average of the initial, cycle I, and cycle II scores. The results showed a significant improvement in students' writing ability. The average score increased from 65.7 in cycle I to 84.3 in cycle II. The level of learning completeness also increased from only 3 students (7.69%) in the initial condition to 22 students (84.61%) in cycle II. Thus, the TTW model assisted by picture media proved effective in improving description essay writing skills. The researcher recommends the consistent use of this model in Indonesian language learning to improve students' learning outcomes.

Abstract

Parenting programmes in elementary schools play an important role in supporting students' character development but often face challenges in terms of parental involvement. Problems include low parental participation in school activities, limited resources and parents' lack of understanding of their role in their children's education. The purpose of this study was to identify the role of parents in students' character development, the challenges faced in implementing the parenting programme, as well as the strategies implemented by the school to increase parental participation in public school 2 Kemasan, Boyolali, Indonesia. This study used qualitative methods with direct observation techniques, structured interviews with parents, teachers, and principals, and document analysis related to the parenting programme. The results show that despite constraints such as limited time and resources, active parental involvement can improve students' attitudes, discipline and learning motivation. However, the level of parental participation in some activities is still low, which affects the effectiveness of the programme. Recommendations to improve the effectiveness of the parenting programme include providing parenting materials online to overcome time constraints and collaborating with external counsellors to provide more support to parents in educating their children. This research is expected to provide insights for other schools in optimising their existing parenting programmes.

Abstract

This research originated from the issue of low learning interest among fourth-grade students at SDN Pakuwon I, with 28 students as the subjects of the study. The aim of this research is to develop a digital comic-based learning media that can enhance students' interest in learning IPS (Social Studies) material in the 4th-grade class at SDN Pakuwon I. The developed media, named Komidi Alprof (Komik Digital Mengenal Profesi), introduces various professions related to different types of landscapes, in line with the students' everyday life context. The research method used is Research and Development (RnD) with the ADDIE model and a One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design from Pre-Experimental Design. The digital comic media underwent several feasibility tests, including a first material validator with a score of 92.5%, a second material expert with a score of 100%, and a media expert with a score of 91.67%. All three tests indicated that the media was considered “Very Feasible.” The small group trial received a positive response of 84%, the large group trial scored 85%, and the trial in the target school reached 88%, all falling within the “Very Feasible” category. The improvement in students' learning interest was measured using the N-Gain calculation, showing an average pretest score of 46.29% and a posttest score of 67.29%, with a Normalized Gain score of 0.31, categorized as “Moderate.” The results indicate that the Komidi Alprof media is effective in increasing students' interest in learning IPS.

Abstract

Critical thinking is an essential 21st-century skill to face the global economic era, but it is still low due to a lack of habituation in learning. This study aims to examine the influence of the Project Based Learning model assisted by LKPD based on Education for Sustainable Development on students' critical thinking skills in science learning in grade 5 of elementary school. The research method used was an experiment with a posttest-only control group design. The research sample consisted of 64 students both in the experimental class and in the control class, who were selected using the convenience sampling technique. The data analysis in this study uses descriptive and inferential statistics, with the t-test as a tool to test the hypothesis. The results showed that the average score of the experimental group was 83.81, while the control group obtained an average score of 72.42. The hypothesis test showed a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000, which was smaller than 0.05 (α=0.05), so there was a significant difference in students' critical thinking skills between the experimental group and the control group. Thus, it can be concluded that the Project Based Learning model assisted by LKPD based on Education for Sustainable Development significantly affects students' critical thinking skills in science learning in grade 5 of elementary school. The results of this study are expected to encourage teachers to integrate the Project Based Learning model and LKPD based on Education for Sustainable Development in learning to improve students' critical thinking skills.

Abstract

Sexual violence that occurs against children of various ages is still a global issue that is rampant in various countries. Schools as official educational institutions should provide facilities related to sexual education from an early age. This review uses the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method, aiming to explore relevant literature to understand how sex education can be applied systematically and its impact on the body privacy awareness of elementary/middle school students.), covering five stages, namely; determine eligibility criteria, define information sources, literature selection, data collection, data item selection. 28 articles were obtained from Google Scholar and Scopus searches that met the criteria and will be analyzed. The results of the review show that sex education is important to teach to children from an early age. Of the 28 articles, 5 of them clearly mentioned in their research findings related to the urgency of child sex education. Various unique ways have been tested and researched to implement ideal sexual education in elementary schools, including psychoeducation, voicing media posters sex education based on audio visual and touch sensors, WiseBook, digital story media, and comics. Efforts to provide an understanding of body boundaries have also begun to be made, such as through role play and service-learning methods. However, only one study was found related to learning the human reproductive system, which showed that the results were not optimal. The lack of visual appeal in the teaching materials makes learning less interesting and tends to be boring.
