Abstract

Decreased levels of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and increased levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) are markers of oxidative stress and indicate obesity. Leunca fruit (Solanum Nigrum L) is a plant that contains antioxidants that can reduce the level of oxidative stress in obesity. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of leunca fruit administration on SOD and MDA levels in obese rats. This type of research is true experimental with a post-test-only research design where 30 male Sprague Dawley rats were divided into five groups consisting of 2 control groups K(-) and K(+) and three treatment groups (P1, P2, P3). Groups K+, P1, P2, and P3 were fed a high-fat and sucrose diet (21% lard, 34% sucrose). The K (-) control group is a group of healthy rats that only receive standard feed without being given leunca fruit. Group K (+) is a group of obese rats without leunca fruit. Leunca fruit was given for six weeks at a dose of 0.8g (P1), 1.6g (P2), and 2.4g (P3). Serum SOD levels were measured by ELISA method and MDA levels were measured by TBARS method. Statistical analysis using One Way Anova test. Administration of leunca fruit with graded doses can significantly increase SOD activity p=0.000 (p<0.05) and can significantly reduce MDA levels in obese rats in each treatment group p=0.000 (p<0.05). Leunca fruit with a dose of 2.4g/BB rat is the most effective dose to increase SOD levels and reduce MDA levels. The limitation of this study that there is no weighing of the remaining rat feed at each meal, so that the percentage of rat intake is was unknown.

Abstract

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a progressive disorder that affects kidney function, often requiring interventions like hemodialysis to maintain patient stability. In addition to medical care, it is crucial to consider patients' nutritional status and quality of life. This cross-sectional study aimed to determine the nutritional status and quality of life of CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis at Luwuk Regional Hospital. The study included 77 subjects, and nutritional status was assessed using the Dialysis Malnutrition Score (DMS), while quality of life was measured using the Kidney Disease Quality of Life Short Form (KDQoL-SF). The results showed that 72.7% of subjects had normal/good nutritional status, and 27.3% had mild-moderate malnutrition. Furthermore, 51.9% of subjects reported poor quality of life, while 48.1% had good quality of life. Among subjects with good nutritional status, 39.7% had good quality of life, and 60.7% had poor quality of life. Statistical analysis revealed no significant relationship between nutritional status based on DMS and quality of life in hemodialysis patients (p>0.05). Quality of life is a complex phenomenon influenced by various factors, and good nutritional status alone may not be sufficient to improve quality of life if other factors, such as psychological stress or pain, are not properly managed. The findings emphasize the importance of a holistic, multidimensional, and personalized clinical approach to enhance the quality of life in hemodialysis patients. Interventions should not only focus on improving nutritional status but also consider patients' overall psychological, social, and physical well-being.

Abstract

Preeclampsia is a leading cause of maternal mortality, second only to hemorrhage. Early detection of preeclampsia risk during pregnancy is crucial for timely prevention and treatment. The Dhiana Setyorini Scorecard (KSDS) is a simple tool that health professionals and the general public can use to identify preeclampsia risk in pregnant women. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of KSDS for early detection of preeclampsia in pregnant women at the Managaisaki City Health Center in Tolitoli Regency. A non-experimental cohort design was employed, with a sample of 86 second-trimester pregnant women selected using accidental sampling. The KSDS was used as the research instrument, and data were analyzed using Fisher's test. The results showed that no cases of preeclampsia were observed among women in the low-risk group. In contrast, 7 out of 14 pregnant women with high-risk factors experienced preeclampsia (p<0.05), indicating a significant association between risk factors and preeclampsia incidence. The study concludes that KSDS is effective in the early detection of preeclampsia risk. Integrating KSDS into prenatal screening protocols and training healthcare workers on its use and interpretation can improve maternal and infant safety during pregnancy. Further research should consider the potential impact of confounding variables and increase the sample size for more comprehensive findings.

Abstract

Patients undergoing hemodialysis for a period of more than 3 years tend to experience malnutrition due to inadequate food intake, diseases of the digestive tract, eating restrictions, drugs that cause impaired nutrient absorption, inadequate dialysis, and comorbidities. This study aimed to determine the relationship between nutritional status and the quality of life of chronic kidney disease patients undergoing hemodialysis in Palu. This study used a quasy experiment design to determine the the 2-mean difference test.. The sample formula determined the number of samples to test the hypothesis on the average of two populations with 100 respondents. This study was carried out in 2 hemodialysis units in Palu. The samples involved in this study were selected by simple random sampling. The KDQOL SF-36 is used to measure quality of life, whereas the malnutrition inflammation score is employed in the questionnaire used to assess nutritional status. The results of this study show that most respondents are in the age range of > 55 years, with 60 people (60%); are female, with 48 people (48%). 48% have a poor quality of life, and 52% have a good quality of life. The p-value for MIS is 0.001, so it can be concluded that at 5% alpha, there is a significant difference between the malnutrition inflammation score before and after education, while there is no significant difference for quality of life and kt/v values. There is an influence of health education on patient nutrition, there is no influence of health education using the KADOic application on quality of life and kt/v.

Abstract

The problem found at Anutapura Regional Hospital is that earthquake disaster preparedness is not yet effective due to the hospital's occupational health and safety organizational structure not being updated since 2020 and lack of special training for the team to deal with earthquake disasters. This qualitative case study aims to analyze the organization, mobilization and activation of human resources in earthquake disaster preparedness at Anutapura Regional Hospital, Palu City. In-depth interviews and observations were conducted with key informants including the hospital director, emergency/disaster preparedness coordinator, and secretary of the occupational health and safety team. The results showed that the organizational structure has been updated in 2023 with defined roles and responsibilities, but monitoring and evaluation mechanisms need improvement to ensure teamwork efficiency and effectiveness. The hospital is constrained in training the team, with no special training available for earthquake disasters, although some internal training has been conducted. Personnel selection is based on competencies aligned with emergency response tasks, focusing on managerial expertise and emergency certification. However, the team is not yet independent with members from various units, resulting in suboptimal implementation. The placement process follows general procedures without special assignments for emergencies, and performance evaluations are not conducted regularly. Anutapura Regional Hospital should implement a special training program that includes earthquake disaster management strategies to enhance preparedness.
