Abstract

This community service program aimed to strengthen collaborative public services through capacity building of public officials and enhanced communication among community institutions in Kelurahan Nyengseret, Bandung City. The program involved 80 participants, including village officials, neighborhood leaders, Posyandu cadres, youth organizations, and community empowerment institutions. The method employed collaborative training and mentoring through participatory discussions, reflective learning, case simulations, and focus group discussions. The results indicated improved understanding of service-oriented work culture, inter-institutional communication, and public service as a shared responsibility. Several strategic issues were identified, including limited human resources, increasing service demands, gaps between public expectations and service capacity, and insufficient integration of community institutions. The program outputs included a stronger service mindset, increased awareness of service consistency, and the utilization of community-based communication. The findings highlight that a collaborative public service approach is an effective strategy for improving sustainable service quality at the village level.

Abstract

This community service program strengthened road safety literacy and safe behavior among school community members at Witama School, Pekanbaru, through a participatory School Safety Literacy Model based on the School Safety Zone. The program responded to the school need for practical traffic safety education, clearer understanding of signs and markings, safer crossing habits, and a simple school follow up mechanism. The model consisted of five connected components: risk mapping, traffic sign literacy, guided safe crossing practice, school commitment, and program continuity. Activities involved 95 students through coordination with the school, field observation, interactive education, group discussion, traffic sign simulation, safe crossing practice, reflection, and handover of educational outputs. The outputs received by the school included a road safety literacy module, traffic sign posters, a simple risk map around the school gate, a teacher monitoring checklist, presentation materials, and recommendations for pick up and drop off arrangement. A short pre and post activity quiz was used only as a learning reflection tool. The average score increased from 52.37 before the activity to 95.74 after the activity, showing improved understanding of School Safety Zone concepts, traffic signs, safe crossing steps, and school safety culture. The program also produced a sustainability plan through teacher supervision, repeated use of educational media, and routine reminders during school arrival and dismissal times. This program shows that community service in school traffic safety becomes more useful when it leaves practical tools, builds school participation, and creates a follow up mechanism after the activity ends

Abstract

Food waste is a significant environmental, economic, and social issue. In Pakutandang Village, Bandung Regency, many households purchase food without proper planning, leading to daily food waste. This community service aimed to increase the knowledge of households, especially housewives, about waste management using the 3R (reduce, reuse, recycle) concept with a behavioral change-oriented education approach. The educational program was conducted using a one-group pretest-posttest approach with 53 participants comprising housewives with toddlers. Instrument validity was verified prior to application, and data were analyzed using the Paired t-test. Results showed a statistically significant improvement in knowledge after the education session (p<0.05), with posttest scores increasing by 5% compared to the pretest. This program highlights the importance of behavioral education in reducing food waste, and future initiatives require continuous evaluation and structured training in compost production. Keywords: food waste, waste management, 3R concept, community education, household behavior

Abstract

This community service program aimed to design and implement a coconut grating machine to enhance the production capacity of a coconut-grating small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) in Dukuhwaluh, Banyumas Regency. The main challenge faced by the partner was low productivity due to the use of conventional grating methods, which required relatively long processing times and offered limited production capacity. The implementation methods included an initial survey and field observation, machine design and fabrication, functional testing, and assistance during the machine adoption process. The machine was designed using a 200 W electric motor coupled with a belt and pulley transmission system to ensure stable, safe, and user-friendly operation. Testing results showed that the machine achieved an average grating capacity of 20 kg/h, representing an improvement over the previous method, which could only process approximately 16 kg/h. The implementation of the machine increased SME productivity by 25% and reduced the grating processing time by 20%. The machine's electricity consumption was recorded at 0.22 kWh per hour of operation, making it economically feasible for small-scale enterprises. From an economic perspective, the use of the machine is estimated to increase business revenue by 20%. Overall, the implementation of this appropriate technology-based coconut grating machine has proven effective in improving production efficiency and effectiveness, increasing production capacity, and generating positive economic impacts for the partner SME. The results demonstrate that the adoption of appropriate technology can serve as an effective solution for enhancing the competitiveness and sustainability of micro-enterprises in the Dukuhwaluh area

Abstract

This community service activity aimed to encourage capacity building for MSME actors in Gebang Tunggul, Patrang District, Jember Regency, in managing business finances through training on simple financial statements based on SAK EMKM. A total of 20 participants with backgrounds in culinary arts, sewing, and services were involved as partners. The priority problems encountered included a lack of financial literacy understanding, the absence of separation between personal and business finances, and the inability to prepare financial statements. The activity was carried out using a participatory method consisting of three sessions: material presentation, problem-solving discussions, and direct practice in preparing financial statements accompanied by intensive mentoring. The initial assessment results showed that only 15% of participants kept simple financial records, and all participants were unfamiliar with the components of financial statements. After the activity, participants demonstrated a noticeable increase in understanding, particularly in separating financial records and preparing profit and loss statements. Participatory discussions successfully formulated solutions to technical obstacles such as calculating Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) and recording accounts receivable. As a sustainability measure, a communication group was formed and periodic monitoring was scheduled. Thus, this program is effective in equipping MSMEs with applicable and sustainable financial management competencies.
