Abstract

Abstract: Impropmtu Speech Delivery Among EFL Graduate Students: Challenges and Potential Strategies. Objectives: This study explores the challenges confronted by EFL (English as a Foreign Language) graduate students in delivering impromptu speeches, especially in formal settings. Method: The research included twelve graduate students in their first semester of the 2013/2014 academic year, majoring in English Education at a private university in Jakarta. It employed a mixed-methods approach and was descriptive in nature. Data collection tools consisted of questionnaires, interviews, reflective journals, and observations. Quantitative data were obtained from questionnaires, while qualitative data came from interviews, observations, and reflective journals completed by the students as an assignment. Findings: The study identified high anxiety and difficulties in organizing and articulating thoughts spontaneously as the primary challenges. It also noted that sufficient practice and the teacher support were effective in reducing students' anxiety and improving their speaking abilities. Conclusion The research revealed that anxiety, stemming from insufficient preparation due to time constrain and unfamiliar topics, adversely affected the speech quality. In response, the teacher focused on enhancing emotional awareness and minimizing anxiety levels. Abstract

Abstract: Teachers’ Perspectives on Bullying: A Crucial Step Towards Safer School Environments. Objectives: This study aims to examine teachers’ understanding of bullying acts. Method: This study is qualitative research with a case study approach. A semi-structured interview and Multimedia Discourse Completion Tasks (MDCTs) were employed to collect the research data. Findings: The findings revealed that almost all the teacher participants possess an excellent understanding of bullying. They based their examination of bullying acts on several risk factors, such as physical features or body build, externalizing behaviour, self-esteem, social skills and popularity, and delinquency. Additionally, the foundations they utilized in categorizing bullying acts included intent to hurt, power disparity, and long-term repetition. Abstract

Abstract: Strengthening Child-Friendly Volunteer through Training of Trainers: An Adult Education Approach.  Objective: Strengthening human resources is an effort carried out with the aim of regenerating and continuity of resources so that they can be utilized optimally in the future. Method: This research using participatory action research method using an adult education approach. Implementation of research consists of the following process stages, namely: making preparations, carrying out training activities, carrying out evaluations, and follow-up development. Finding: The village officials which is focused on helping the village to continue to be consistent in carrying out activities for the community. FGD analysis of the needs of the target group which is a follow-up to socialization activities. Preparation of child-friendly village development carried out by researchers through the delivery of material as well as discussion activities guided to analyze the response of child-friendly village managers in identifying problems and obstacles still being faced as well as actions taken in the context of developing child-friendly villages. Abstract

Abstract: Does Resilience Affect Students' Psychological Distress in Indonesia? A Meta-Analysis Study. Objectives: This research aims to assess the influence of resilience on the formation of psychological distress among students in Indonesia as a whole. Methods: The method used for the purposes of this research is correlational meta-analysis by analyzing 10 primary studies with a sample size (N = 3600), which meet the specified inclusion criteria. Findings: The results of the analysis using the random-effects approach obtained a combined effect size of (g = 0.614; p < 0.01). This effect size is in the “Medium Effect” category. Conclusion: Overall, resilience has a significant effect on the psychological distress of students in Indonesia. The findings of this meta-analysis can provide more accurate and reliable conclusions than single studies. Abstract

Abstract: The Implementation of Total Quality Management at Taman Siswa Elementary School. Objectives: This study aims to find out about the implementation of integrated quality management at Taman Siswa elementary school. Methods: This research method is a qualitative descriptive method with a case study type. Data collection techniques with interviews, observation, and documentation. The data analyzed refers to Miles and Huberman. The validity of the data used source triangulation and technique triangulation. Findings: The findings of the study indicate that the implementation of integrated quality management at Taman Siswa elementary school has been carried out well and there needs to be continuous improvement in various fields. Abstract: The Role of Teacher Response and Support in Fostering Smart Risk-Taking Behavior of K-12 Chemistry Students Through Learning Intention. Objectives: This study explores how teacher support influences K-12 students' learning intentions and risk-taking in Indonesian chemistry education, aiming to bolster creative and critical thinking. Methods: A quantitative survey aligned with the positivist paradigm examines the dynamics between teacher behaviours, classroom interactions, and students' willingness for intelligent risk-taking. Findings: It reveals the critical role of supportive teaching methods in promoting smart risk-taking, enhancing classroom engagement, and shaping students' educational interests and attitudes. These insights suggest a profound impact on educational practices in chemistry, highlighting the importance of supportive learning environments. Conclusion: The research emphasizes the need for fostering robust teacher-student engagement and creating conducive learning spaces, with broad implications for teacher training, curriculum design, and educational policy. Abstract

Abstract: Research Trends in Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) Research (2014-2024): A Scientometric Analysis. Objectives: Over the past 20 years, there has been significant progress in TPACK research. Rapid technological advances make research on TPACK very important. However, very few studies have examined references through the application of scientometric analysis. This study aims to identify current and future TPACK trends, subjects, publications, authors, keywords, and author collaboration networks in TPACK research. Methods: Scientometric analysis was carried out on data from the Scopus database, a total of 582 TPACK research publications published from 2014 to March 2024 with keyword Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge. We also restrict content written in English and limit to final publication stage. This study analysis does not include books, newspaper articles, and book reviews. Data analysis used the R bibliometric packages biblioshiny and VOSviewer. Findings: Based on the analysis results, the keywords that appeared most frequently in publications were TPACK (194 articles). The Australian Journal of Educational Technology is the journal that publishes the most articles on the TPACK theme (24 articles) and also has the highest number of local citations. Chai is number one on the list of authors with the highest impact. Based on the co-occurrence network visualization and word cloud, the organizational support, especially school support, is not yet visible. China, Indonesia, Australia, and the USA are leaders in collaboratives about TPACK topic. Conclusion: This study provides in-depth information about keywords are most pertinent to research on TPACK; journals that hold significant influence, and authors demonstrate prolificacy in studies concerning TPACK; the current trends in TPACK research, and what priority areas warrant further investigation; and the collaborative networks among countries in TPACK research. Keywords: TPACK; scientometric; biblioshiny; research trends.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v14.i1.202426

Abstract

Abstract: Animation Videos as a Pre-writing Stimulus: A Quasi-Experimental Study on Secondary School Students in Medan-Indonesia. Objectives: This study aims to reassess the effectiveness of  animation videos as a stimulus during pre-writing phase on tenth graders’ writing skills. Methods: Employing a quasi-experimental research design, the study applied t-test and effect size analysis within a quantitative approach. Through non-random sampling, two intact classess of 30 tenth graders each were assigned to the control and experimental groups. Pre- and post-tests, focusing on the ability to write a procedure text in the tips genre, were conducted to collect data. Findings: The research findings indicated a significant difference in the writing scores of tenth graders who underwent process writing with animation videos during pre-writing, compared to those without such intervention. Particularly noteworthy were substantial differences observed in the organization aspect, while the least difference was noted in language aspect. Conclusion: This study suggests the essential role of  animation videos as a brainstorming stimulus in retrieving linguistic and topic knowledge for the students to effectively organize  and communicate  their ideas. Abstract

Abstract: Development of a Dental and Oral Health Education Model with an Authoritative Parenting Approach to Prevent Dental Caries in Early Childhood. Objective: This research aims to develop a dental and oral health education model utilizing an authoritative parenting approach to prevent dental caries in early childhood. Methods: This research used Mixed Methods with a research and development (R&D) design adopting the ADDIE model (analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation). Validation tests were carried out by 2 experts (an expert in the field of dental public health and an expert in the field of early childhood education) and 1 practitioner. Next, one-on-one trials were carried out on 3 mothers who had children aged 3-5 years, small group trials on 9 mothers and their children, field trials on 20 mothers and their children for the intervention group, 20 mothers and their children for the control group. Qualitative data analysis used the Miles-Hubermen analysis technique, quantitative data analysis used the Wilcoxon and Mann Whitney tests. Findings: The design stage yielded a dental and oral health education model employing an authoritative parenting approach to prevent dental caries in early childhood. Results from the development stage, including validation by experts and practitioners, affirm the model's suitability for trial. One-on-one and small group tests indicate that the educational model is engaging and easy to comprehend. The field test results demonstrate a significant impact of the provided educational model on enhancing mother's knowledge, attitudes, and improving OHIS value of their children. Conclusion: The dental and oral health education model, employing an authoritative parenting approach to prevent dental caries in early childhood, is deemed suitable for implementation and proves effective in enhancing mother’s knowledge, attitudes, and OHIS value of their children. Keywords: dental caries, early childhood, educational model.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v14.i1.202417

Abstract

Abstract: Implementation of the Kurikulum Merdeka in Mathematics Learning at Elementary Schools. Objectives: This study aims to examine the implementation of the Kurikulum Merdeka in enhancing the potential of mathematics learning in elementary schools in Kebumen Regency. Methods: The research was conducted using a qualitative approach with phenomenological methods. Participants of this study were teachers and principals in 5 elementary schools recruited through purposive sampling techniques. Data were garnered through observation, interviews, and documentary studies. Interviews were conducted with educators and school principals. The data analysis technique consists of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Findings: The results of the study indicate that: (1) the planning of mathematics learning in Kurikulum Merdeka is prepared by teachers through informal learning and collaboration with peers; (2) the implementation of mathematics learning in Kurikulum Merdeka is still in the stage of adapting various teaching experiences of teachers; (3) the evaluation of mathematics learning in Kurikulum Merdeka already uses diverse evaluation tools and types of questions.
