Abstract

21st Century Skills of Students in a Technical Vocational Education and Training Institution in the Philippines. Objectives: This study aims to assess the 21st Century Skills of Students in a Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Institution in the Philippines. Methods: The descriptive method was used to describe the characteristics and the competency level of 21st century skills of sixty-eight TVET students enrolled in the first semester school year 2019-2020 at Camarines Sur Insitute of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Philippines. A comparative method was used to analyze the similarities and differences of skills. The percentage, ranking, average weighted mean, and one-way ANOVA were used for statistical analysis in determining the interpretation based on the 4-point Likert’s rating scale used. Findings: The study reveals that the overall level of competency of 21st century skills of TVET Students is 3.081 interpreted as moderately competent which implies that the students can apply their skills in simple situations. Conclusion: TVET Students in Philippines possess the 21st century skills. Keywords: 21st Century Skills, TVET Students, descriptive and comparative analysis. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v9.i2.201903

Abstract

Drill Methods for Enhancing Reading Skills in the Era of Digital Disruption: A Systematic Literature Review. Objectives: This research aims to systematically review various studies on the use of the drill method in enhancing reading skills, particularly in the context of the digital era. Methods: This research employs a systematic literature review using PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) report guidelines.  The articles selected for review meet the following criteria: (1) relevance to the topic, (2) peer-reviewed research publications, (3) published between 2010 and 2025, and (4) written in an international language. Data was collected by searching references in academic journal databases, such as ERIC, Google Scholar, Scopus and Web of Science. Findings: The results highlight several key points: (1) The drill method proves effective in improving reading skills by facilitating faster word recognition and enhancing memory retention; (2) It contributes to better reading speed, comprehension, and phonetic abilities; (3) Different types of drills, such as traditional, repetition-based, and incremental, can be tailored to specific learning needs; (4) The impact of drills is more significant when integrated with innovative teaching strategies; and (5) Digital technology enhances the effectiveness of drills, making learning experiences more interactive, adaptive, and engaging. Conclusion: This study affirms that the drill method significantly supports reading skill development, especially when combined with modern instructional approaches and digital tools. The results of this study are expected to encourage the integration of drill methods with digital technology and innovative strategies to improve the effectiveness of reading learning in the digital era. Keywords: drill method, reading skills, systematic literature review.

Abstract

Movable Book Local Wisdom-Based as Teaching Material to Increase Nationalism in the 21st Century. Objectives: This research investigates the effectiveness of movable book local wisdom based as a teaching material in improving students’ nationalism. Methods: Quasi-experiment was used with a non-equivalent control group design. The population of this study is the fourth-grade primary students. The data were measured using n-gain and independent t-test. Findings: The result shows that the n-gain of students’ nationalism in the experimental classes 1 and 2 were higher than the control class, such as 0.40, 0.39, and 0.29, with a moderate category for experimental classes and a low category for control class. Moreover, t-test results also showed that the value (p) was 0.000, which ≤ 0.05, so it significantly differences in students’ nationalism between experimental and control classes. Conclusion: Therefore, it can conclude that the movable book local wisdom-based teaching material can improve fourth-grade elementary students' nationalism character effectively. Keywords: 21st century, nationalism, local wisdom, teaching material, movable book.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v12.i1.202205

Abstract

How do Digital Native Students Responses to Balinese Ethnomathematics Problems? Objectives: This study determines digital native students' responses to ethnomathematical problems in Balinese culture. Methods: This study uses descriptive analysis techniques. The subjects were 42 students of class VIII.1 and VIII.5 SMP Widiatmika. Data was collected through questionnaires, tests, and interviews. The student response questionnaire consists of 3 aspects, namely familiar or not familiar, appropriate or not appropriate, and interested or not interested. The responses data the percentage of positive and negative responses is then calculated. Findings: The results showed that only 16.67% of students are familiar with Balinese ethnomathematics problems, 95.24% of students considered that the ethnomathematics was appropriate in learning mathematics, and 90.48% of students are interested in ethnomathematics. Conclusion: It was found that digital native students tend to give a positive response but are unable to understand Balinese ethnomathematics. From these findings, Future learning is expected to become a culture and technology-based learning. Keywords: digital native students, ethnomathematics, student response, problem solving, balinese culture.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v12.i2.202230

Abstract

The Effect of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) Models Assisted Augmented Reality (AR) on Mathematical Reasoning Ability. Objectives: This study aimed to determine the effect of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) models-assisted Augmented Reality (AR) on mathematical reasoning abilities (MRA). Methods: This study used a quasi-experimental post-test-only control group research design. The population of this research was class X in senior high school Jakarta and the research sample consisted of 34 students in the experimental class and 36 students in the control class who were selected using a purposive sampling technique. The research instrument was a description test analyzed using IBM SPSS 27 and Winstep, Findings: The findings indicate a significant difference between the experimental and control classes with the Mann-Whitney U-test Asymp. Sig. 0.00 (H0 denied). While the results of Cohen's d effect size were obtained at d = 1.54, meaning that the PBL models-assisted AR was classified as very large, where students in the experimental class were better than the control class. Furthermore, the Wright maps that the percentage of MRA is high (14%), medium (76%) and low (10%), Conclusion: Students who receive the application of the PBL models-assisted AR become more active, able to solve given contextual problems well and are more innovative in expanding their knowledge related to mathematical material. Therefore, the application of the PBL models-assisted AR affects MRA. Keyword: PBL, AR, mathematical reasoning ability.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v13.i2.202352
