Abstract

Gout is one of the non-communicable diseases whose prevalence has increased due to changes in lifestyle and the consumption of foods high in purines. Limited public knowledge can influence efforts to prevent and control this disease. This community service activity aimed to describe the implementation of health education on gout prevention in Tanjung Serang Village in 2026. The method used referred to an action research approach consisting of observation, village community deliberation, implementation of health education, and descriptive evaluation. The educational materials were delivered through lectures, interactive discussions, and educational media covering risk factors, signs and symptoms, as well as preventive measures through a low-purine diet and a healthy lifestyle. The results showed active community participation involving 104 respondents in the health education activity. Participants were able to identify risk factors, types of high-purine foods, and preventive measures for gout through healthy dietary habits and physical activity. In addition, health screening activities such as uric acid and blood pressure checks helped the community better understand their health conditions.

Abstract

Bullying in elementary schools remains a problem that can impact students' psychosocial development and learning process. Various studies indicate that approximately 20–30% of school-age children have been involved in bullying, either as victims, perpetrators, or witnesses. Initial observations at SDN 16 Kayuagung also identified indications of bullying behavior and the lack of structured anti-bullying outreach activities. This community service activity aimed to provide education on bullying prevention and increase students' understanding of its forms, impacts, and prevention methods. The activity was conducted with 62 fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students using a participatory educational method that included delivering material using PowerPoint presentations, providing case studies, singing anti-bullying songs, and a question-and-answer session. Evaluation was conducted using descriptive qualitative methods through participatory observation of student engagement and responses during the activity. Results showed a positive response from students and identified an increased understanding of the concept of bullying and the importance of maintaining respectful social behavior in the school environment. This outreach activity has the potential to be a preventative measure to support the creation of a safer and more child-friendly school environment.

Abstract

Improper drug storage and disposal practices at the household level remain a public health problem. In Celikah Village, drugs are still found to be stored without regard for temperature, humidity, and expiration dates. This condition has the potential to pose health risks and environmental pollution due to the use of damaged or expired drugs. This community service activity aims to increase community knowledge and awareness regarding the correct management of household drugs based on the principle of Obtain, Use, Store, and Dispose of Drugs Properly (DAGUSIBU). The activity was carried out by students of the Community Service Program (KKN) of Kader Bangsa University, targeting 30 housewives and village health cadres. The implementation method included preparation, coordination with the village government and health workers, preparation of educational materials, and implementation of counseling through lectures, interactive discussions, and distribution of leaflets. Evaluation of the activity was carried out through observation and a question and answer session to assess participants' understanding of the material provided. The activity began with participation in a toddler posyandu (integrated health post) and continued with the delivery of material on how to obtain, use, store, and dispose of drugs safely and rationally. The results of the activity showed that before the education, there were still drug storage habits that did not meet standards. After the activity, participants were able to recognize the signs of damaged and expired medications and understand the importance of proper medication storage. This activity contributed to increasing public awareness as a preventative measure to prevent the use of inappropriate medications.

Abstract

The increasing prevalence of non-communicable diseases and the high cost of healthcare services emphasize the importance of strengthening family-based promotive and preventive health efforts. The utilization of Family Medicinal Plants (TOGA) represents a practical community empowerment strategy to support self-reliant healthcare. This community service activity aimed to provide education and hands-on training on TOGA cultivation to the community in Jua-Jua Village. A participatory and experiential learning approach was applied, involving PKK members and community service students. Activities included land preparation, educational counseling, and practical planting of medicinal plants such as ginger, turmeric, white turmeric, lemongrass, basil, pandan, red betel, and cat’s whiskers. Evaluation was conducted through participatory observation and group discussions. The results indicated active participant involvement and the establishment of a TOGA garden as a medium for health education and community empowerment. The activity increased community awareness of medicinal plant utilization and encouraged the optimization of home yards as sources of natural remedies. Program sustainability depends on the community’s commitment to continuous maintenance of the TOGA garden.

Abstract

Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) at the household level is an important indicator in improving public health status. However, its implementation still faces various environmental and behavioral challenges. This community service activity aimed to analyze factors related to the implementation of PHBS at the household level in Cinta Raja Village. The method used was a quantitative approach with an analytic survey design through a Community Self Survey (Survei Mawas Diri/SMD) involving 100 household heads selected using purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed descriptively using frequency distribution and percentages. The results showed that the lowest PHBS indicators included the presence of mosquito larvae (49%), poor household environmental cleanliness (40%), and uncovered waste containers (39%). These findings indicate that environmental factors are the dominant factors influencing the implementation of PHBS in the community.

Abstract

Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) is an important effort to improve public health and prevent various environmental-based diseases such as Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) and diarrhea. Low public knowledge about PHBS can increase the risk of these diseases. Preliminary study results in Serigeni Lama Village showed that some community members had not fully implemented clean and healthy living behaviors in their daily lives. This study aimed to determine the implementation of PHBS counseling as an effort to prevent DHF and diarrhea in the community of Serigeni Lama Village. The research method used was descriptive with a quantitative approach using a one group pretest–posttest design. The activity was carried out on February 6, 2026, at the Serigeni Lama Village Hall with 95 community members participating in the counseling activity. The results showed that before the counseling, most participants were in the poor knowledge category with 45 people (47%), followed by moderate knowledge with 32 people (34%), and good knowledge with 18 people (19%). After the counseling, the good knowledge category increased to 67 people (71%), moderate knowledge became 21 people (22%), and poor knowledge decreased to 7 people (7%). In conclusion, PHBS counseling activities were effective in increasing community knowledge regarding the prevention of DHF and diarrhea through the implementation of clean and healthy living behaviors.

Abstract

Circumcision is a common surgical procedure in male children that requires proper wound care to prevent complications such as infection and bleeding. Parental knowledge plays an important role in ensuring optimal healing. Preliminary observations in Kedaton Village indicated limited community understanding of post-circumcision wound care. This program aimed to improve knowledge through health education and free wound examinations. The intervention was conducted on February 12, 2026, involving more than 30 participants, using lectures, discussions, demonstrations, and educational posters. The results showed improved participant understanding of proper wound care techniques, early signs of infection, and the importance of regular monitoring. This health education program proved effective in increasing knowledge and has the potential to reduce post-circumcision complications.

The results showed that the activity was carried out in an orderly manner and received active participation from the community. Evaluation results indicated an increase in knowledge level, where the proportion of participants in the good category increased from 6 people (20%) in the pretest to 20 people (67%) in the posttest, while the poor category decreased from 14 people (47%) to 3 people (10%). Participants were also actively involved in discussions and able to restate the material delivered.
