Abstract

The phrase "Never Leave History" (Jasmerah) from Soekarno emphasized the importance of historical awareness. This article examines the evolution of basic education and basic Islamic education in Indonesia from the Islamic kingdom to the Reform era with a qualitative approach based on a literature review. Key findings reveal a significant shift in the Islamic basic education curriculum, transforming from a traditional Islamic boarding school-based approach to a formal school model that integrates modern science and technology. In addition, a dynamic pattern of education policy was found, seeking to balance the preservation of local-religious values with the demands of modernization and national development. This study also confirms that Islamic education functions not only as a transmission of knowledge but as a process of forming character, social identity, and cultural resilience according to Islamic teachings. The implications of this research are very important for the development of education policies that are inclusive, holistic, and responsive to social and cultural change. The unique contribution of this research can be seen from the cross-era analysis that provides a comprehensive picture of the resilience and adaptability of Islamic education in the face of socio-political challenges, while strengthening the historical foundations and Islamic values in the national education system.

Abstract

This study aims to describe: (1) the implementation of timezone services in the SDIT Alam Nurul Islam library, (2) their impact on library uses and student engagement, and (3) the challenges involved in their implementation. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed. This research was conducted at SDIT Alam Nurul Islam, Sleman Regency. The subjects of this study included school principals, teachers, librarians, and students. The results of the study concluded: 1) The implementation of time zones aims to increase student interest in libraries. It features both educational and traditional games, which are either made in-house or purchased. The most popular games among students are spinning tops and checkers.2) The positive impact is that it influences student interest and does not directly impact interest in reading and learning while a drawback is that some students become late to class due to extended playtime. 3) Implementation challenges include internal issues such as difficulties in creating games and limited space, and external issues related to student behavior. Research results show that the timezone service has a significant positive impact: (1) increasing students' enthusiasm to visit the library regularly, (2) fostering students' reading interest through targeted game media, and (3) becoming an educational entertainment alternative that supports a pleasant learning atmosphere at school. This innovation also encourages the role of the library as a child-friendly and inspiring literacy activity center. Thus, the timezone service can serve as a model for creative services that can be implemented in other elementary school libraries.

Abstract

This study evaluated the effectiveness of BukuAku, an interactive digital library application, in enhancing elementary school students’ reading literacy through the Reading and Writing Across the Curriculum (RWAC) approach. As digital learning tools become increasingly integral in early education, this study aimed to assess the impact of BukuAku on students’ reading comprehension using a quantitative research design. A quasi-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design was implemented involving 30 third-grade students over a four-month intervention period (January–April 2025). Two main instruments were employed in this study. The first instrument was the Lumina Testing Service (LTS), a Lexile-based quantitative reading assessment tool that is widely used internationally and supported by documented validity and reliability. The second was BukuAku, a digital library that provided leveled digital texts, audio narration, and quizzes to support the learning process. Reading proficiency was measured using the LTS before and after the intervention. Statistical analysis using a paired samples t-test revealed a significant increase in students’ Lexile scores, from a mean of 700.17 (SD = 26.375) in the pretest to 832.33 (SD = 39.277) in the posttest. These results demonstrate a substantial improvement in reading comprehension following the intervention. The findings support the efficacy of integrating digital literacy tools with cross-curricular reading and writing approaches to strengthen reading comprehension in early grades. This study contributes to the empirical literature on educational technology integration and highlights the value of structured, interactive literacy interventions. Future research is recommended to explore long-term impacts and broader implementation across diverse educational context.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of the DINAR (Discovery Learning based on Augmented Reality) model on the critical thinking skills of grade V Madrasah Ibtidaiyah students on the material of human respiratory organs. The method used was quasi-experimental with a non-equivalent control group design, involving 48 students divided into experimental (DINAR learning) and control (conventional method) groups. This research was conducted at MIS Raudlatul Mutaallimin, Pakis, Bringin District, Semarang Regency. Data were collected through critical thinking tests based on analysis, evaluation, and inference indicators, and analyzed using parametric statistical tests (Independent Sample T-Test) and N-Gain. The results showed a significant increase in the experimental group with an average posttest of 156.8 (versus 133.2 in the control). The T-Test produced a value of t(46) = -5.836 (p = 0.000), indicating a highly significant difference. N-Gain analysis reinforced these findings with an effectiveness score of 57.49% (moderately effective) in the experiment, while the control only reached 38.52% (less effective). The integration of Augmented Reality in Discovery Learning facilitates 3D visualization of respiratory organs, allowing students to explore concepts interactively and build independent understanding. This finding is in line with Bruner's theory of constructivism, asserting that a combination of immersive technology and explorative approaches effectively improves critical thinking skills. This study recommends the adoption of the DINAR model in science learning, particularly for abstract materials, as well as teacher training in AR-based media development.
