Abstract

This study examines the effect of academic progression on EFL learning self-efficacy among English Education students at a state university in Indonesia. Although self-efficacy has been widely recognized as a key factor influencing learners’ motivation, engagement, and academic performance, limited research in the Indonesian context has explored whether confidence levels differ meaningfully across academic stages. To address this gap, the study compared the self-efficacy of second-year and third-year students using a quantitative comparative design. A total of 30 participants completed a validated Academic Self-Efficacy Scale, and the data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, reliability testing, assumption checks, and independent samples t-tests. The results showed that both groups demonstrated moderately high self-efficacy, with third-year students reporting slightly higher scores; however, the difference was not statistically significant. These findings suggest that academic progression alone may not substantially influence learners’ self-efficacy when instructional conditions and learning experiences remain relatively similar. The study highlights the need for providing meaningful mastery experiences and supportive pedagogical practices to strengthen self-efficacy development across students’ academic journeys in Indonesian higher education.

Abstract

In the hospitality industry, hotel information systems are predominantly operated in English, posing linguistic challenges for staff with limited English proficiency. This study aims to analyze the English comprehension ability of employees at Hotel Griya Sintesa Muara Enim, particularly in understanding English-based hotel information systems. Using a quantitative descriptive approach, data were collected through a written vocabulary test (comprising 20 multiple-choice and matching items), semi-structured interviews, and documentation from 30 front-office and operational staff members. Descriptive statistical analysis revealed an average correct-response rate of 69.2% (mean score = 70.5), placing overall comprehension in the “Paham” (Understand) category. While most employees could operate the system functionally, difficulties persisted with technical terms such as PMS, interface, database error, and backup file. Key contributing factors include limited prior English training, infrequent exposure to technical vocabulary, and reliance on peer assistance. The findings suggest that staff's functional English proficiency is sufficient for daily operations but requires targeted support to enhance accuracy and confidence. Recommendations include implementing English for Hospitality Systems training, developing an in-house English terminology glossary, and establishing an internal mentoring program. This study underscores the importance of integrating language support into hospitality technology adoption to ensure operational efficiency and service quality.

Abstract

This study aims to describe elementary school teachers’ perceptions of the use of deep learning in enhancing students’ digital literacy. The research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design conducted at SD Negeri 2 Tomohon. The research participants consisted of elementary school teachers selected through purposive sampling based on their involvement in technology-integrated learning activities. Data were collected through classroom observations, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. The data were analyzed using qualitative data analysis procedures, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that teachers generally hold positive perceptions of deep learning as a learning approach that promotes deeper conceptual understanding, increases student engagement, and supports the development of digital literacy skills. However, the implementation of deep learning at the elementary school level still encounters several challenges, such as limited teachers’ conceptual understanding, differences in students’ digital competencies, and inadequate supporting facilities. Despite these challenges, teachers believe that the integration of deep learning with digital technology has the potential to improve the quality of learning when supported by continuous professional development and appropriate school policies. This study contributes to the growing body of research on teachers’ perceptions of technology-based instructional innovations in elementary education.

Abstract

This undergraduate thesis entitled Dissecting Slang Words in the Album of ‘Kirk’ by DaBaby examines the types and functions of slang expressions in DaBaby’s lyrics. Adopting Allan and Burridge’s (2006) sociolinguistic framework, the research identifies and categorizes slang types, for instance Fresh and Creative, Clipping, Imitative, Acronym, and Flippant as well as analyses their communicative functions within hip-hop culture. Data were collected from all 13 songs on the Kirk album using qualitative methods. A total of 52 slang expressions were systematically classified and evaluated to determine their roles in expressing identity, emotion, resistance, humor, and social bonding. The findings reveal the Fresh and Creative slang (e.g., drip, vibez, bop) is the most prevalent (41.6%), highlighting DaBaby’s linguistic innovation. Clipping(e.g., gon’, ‘em,) and Imitative (e.g., finna, wanna) types support rhythmic flow and cultural authenticity, while Flippant terms (e.g., nigga, hoe) convey emotional intensity and in-group solidarity. Functionally, slang primarily reinforces group identity and enables emotional expression, with secondary roles in humor, resistance, and social intimacy. This research underscores slang’s significance in hip-hop as a tool for cultural representation, artistic creativity, and generational discourse. It contributes to sociolinguistic studies of music by demonstrating how informal lexicon shapes artist identity and listener engagement in contemporary rap.

Abstract

Teamwork is a fundamental element and a strategic pillar in the governance of educational institutions, particularly at the Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) level, which demands the integration of religious values and national academic standards. This article aims to deeply analyze the urgency of team formation, the dynamics of the effective team-building process, and strategies for maintaining team cohesion to support the success of Islamic primary education organizations. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach through literature reviews and in-depth interviews with a limited number of informants competent in madrasah management. Through the analysis of literature and field data, it was found that the urgency of teamwork in MI lies not only in administrative efficiency but also in creating an adaptive and collaborative learning environment. The results indicate that a solid work team significantly enhances the quality of learning through the exchange of ideas between teachers and staff, strengthens internal coordination systems often hindered by bureaucracy, and optimizes human resource development through knowledge transfer among members. Furthermore, this study identifies three main pillars for successful teamwork in MI: first, participative leadership capable of embracing all aspirations of the madrasah community; second, open communication that minimizes internal conflict; and third, clear task distribution based on individual competence (the right man on the right place). These findings provide practical implications for madrasah heads to prioritize a collective work culture over individualistic efforts to achieve accreditation targets and a vision of superior Islamic education in the contemporary era.

Abstract

English has increasingly functioned as global communication among people around the world with diverse cultural background. In this era, English is more frequently used among non-native speakers than native speakers themselves especially in academic, professional, and intercultural settings. Despite these developments, native speaker norms continue to have a strong influence in English language teaching and English language learning. NESTs are often viewed as a role model, and NNESTs viewed as someone who are incompetence in teaching a language. This research aims to find the strengths and weakness from students’ perspective, using a qualitative method and interview questions about each strength and weakness and their implication in English language learning. The result of this research was that each side was beneficial for students, as the NESTs helps with their pronunciation, idiomatic, and real-life communication usage to train students and building their confidence, and The NNESTs understood the students’ difficulties in learning and could be apply a teaching strategy to help them understand. However, the status of native or not wasn’t the important thing, it is the quality of teaching and the outcome for students so it will help them ready to communicate with people around the world.
