Abstract

This article describes students’ writing skills in expository text based on the parallel class perspective for first-grade high school students. The research took place at the beginning of the even semester 2021/2022. The research used a descriptive-quantitative method. The population of the research were all students of class X SMA Negeri 6 Karawang who submitted answers to the writing skills test via a google form, which consisted of 137 students. There were 102 students who were selected through a simple random technique. Data were analyzed by using parametric inferential statistics with one sample t-test and a one-way Anova test via SPSS. The requirements for the homogeneity of variance and the normality of the curves of the Lilifors testing method were fulfilled through SPSS completely. It was found that the t-test of one sample was 0.411 at sig. 0.682 so that sig. 0.682 > 0.05, which means that the mean observation was 6.05 similar to the estimated mean of 6.00. The observed mean of 6.05 was equivalent to a relative value of 41.21%. This percentage included the low category. F value = 0.134 in sig. 0.970, so that sig. 0.970 > 0.05, which means that there is no difference in the mean of writing skill in writing exposition texts between class X-1, class X-2, class X-3, class X-4, and class X-5. The results contributed to related institutions regarding learning to write expository texts in a context of a gender perspective and parallel classes.

The techniques used were tests and questionnaires. The population was 84 students with a total sample of 46 students. The research was conducted in the odd semester of the 2022/2023 academic year. The results showed that the effect of reading comprehension skills on students’ learning outcomes of the human and environmental subthemes was shown by statistical analysis that produced a correlation coefficient rxy of 0.49. It shows that there was an effect between reading comprehension skills and students’ human and environmental subthemes. While the coefficient of determination (r2) was 24.01%. The rest of 75.99% was determined by other factors. The average students’ learning outcomes on the human and environmental subthemes at 24.01% were determined by reading comprehension skills through the regression equation = 11.15 + 0.52X, which means that every improvement in the unit value of reading comprehension skills will influence students’ learning outcome in the human and environmental subthemes at 0.52 units.

Abstract

The use of media in learning has a very important role as a means of non-verbal communication. The importance of using media in the learning process has been stated by many experts. Based on the preliminary studies that had been carried out, it is shown that teachers rarely use and develop learning media. Teachers have lacked sufficient knowledge and skills to develop thematic learning media. It is because of the lack of training in making thematic learning media. Hence, learning activities tend to be monotonous by applying lectures. One of the attempts to produce quality teachers is to equip prospective teacher students with appropriate knowledge and skills based on the era. The PGMI study program teaches students to develop thematic learning media. It was to find out how to implement product-based learning to prepare innovative graduates for the students of PGMI UIN Raden Mas Said Surakarta. The research was descriptive qualitative research. The results of the research were 1) the planning stage, which included the preparation of lesson plans for the PGMI learning system planning and learning materials design, 2) the implementation phase, which included teaching the learning material on thematic learning media and their development, analyzing basic competencies, indicators and thematic learning objectives, designing thematic learning media, and implementing the development of thematic learning media, and 3) evaluation phase that included try-out of thematic learning media use, criticism and suggestions related to the advantages and disadvantages of the thematic learning media products.
