Abstract

This study discusses the strengthening of literacy culture in reading yellow books through the Sorogan method at the Darus Salam Dringu Islamic Boarding School, Probolinggo Regency. Yellow books as classical Islamic books have an important role in Islamic boarding school education. However, students' interest in literacy towards these books is still low. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method to identify effective strategies in strengthening literacy culture in Islamic boarding schools. The results of the study indicate that the Sorogan method, which involves direct interaction between students and teachers, is effective in improving students' understanding of yellow books. In addition, routine reading activities 15 minutes before learning, additional discussion sessions, and the provision of adequate library facilities also support increased literacy interest. However, this study also identifies challenges faced, such as limited access to technology and variations in students' abilities in understanding yellow books. The results of this study indicate that the Darus Salam Dringu Islamic Boarding School has succeeded in implementing several significant literacy strengthening strategies, although further efforts are still needed to overcome existing obstacles. Overall, this study offers a new perspective on the implementation of yellow book literacy in Islamic boarding schools, showing that innovative learning strategies and strengthening facilities can support the development of intellectual abilities and character of students in accordance with Islamic teachings.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the adaptation of Islamic comics to technological advancements and contemporary cultural dynamics, with particular emphasis on their function as a medium of da’wah. The research applies a qualitative-descriptive approach with data collection conducted through netnography. The findings indicate a substantial transformation in both narrative structures and visual styles, accompanied by the growing use of digital platforms such as webtoons. Furthermore, Islamic comic creators have successfully incorporated elements of global popular culture, especially the Korean Wave, to attract younger audiences and expand the dissemination of religious messages. In conclusion, this study highlights that Islamic comics not only serve as creative instruments of da’wah but also operate as cultural bridges, enabling Islamic values to be conveyed in ways that are engaging, accessible, and contextually relevant to the younger generation.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the strategies implemented by religious instructors in preventing radicalism and identity friction in four regions in Central Java—Semarang City, Demak Regency, Semarang Regency, and Kendal Regency. Using a qualitative approach with a case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews and focus group discussions with religious instructors, lecturers, and community leaders to provide in-depth context for local dynamics. The results reveal three complementary clusters of strategies: (1) socializing the value of religious moderation through sermons/lectures, religious study groups, and targeted use of social media; (2) strengthening religious and national literacy through non-formal education such as training, workshops, and interactive forums; and (3) multi-sector collaboration with local governments, religious organizations, and community leaders. However, the implementation of these strategies faces recurring challenges, including limited resources, uneven policy support, and security risks when interacting with intolerant groups. Research findings indicate that the role of religious instructors as key local actors in building social resilience against radicalism is highly strategic, but its effectiveness depends on the integration of educational, collaborative, and contextual approaches supported by sustainable policies and resources.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the strategy for implementing the Strengthening Project of Pancasila Student Profiles and Rahmatan lil-‘Alamin Student Profiles (P5-PPRA) in developing Rahmatan lil-‘Alamin character among students at MTs Muhammadiyah Mandalle, Gowa Regency. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method, with data collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that the implementation of P5-PPRA followed a systematic approach through the stages of planning, implementation, and evaluation. The strategy involved integrating the program into the school’s operational curriculum, establishing a facilitator team, and conducting thematic projects such as “Sampah Berkarya” (“Creative Waste”), designed to raise students’ environmental awareness and enhance collaborative skills. The program's implementation showed positive implications in shaping students’ character, particularly in fostering environmental concern, responsibility, collaboration, and social empathy. These outcomes align with Thomas Lickona’s theory of character education, which highlights three essential dimensions: moral knowing, moral feeling, and moral action. These dimensions are reflected in the integration of character values into learning processes, reinforcement of social activities that cultivate empathy, and students’ active participation in project-based activities. The findings suggest that P5-PPRA serves as a strategic and effective approach for character formation within the framework of moderate and contextual Islamic education.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the practice of differentiated learning carried out by Islamic Education (PAI) teachers at SMAN 2 Situbondo and to identify the obstacles encountered during its implementation. The research employed a qualitative approach with a field research design. Data were obtained through observation, interviews, and documentation, while the validity of the data was ensured by applying source and technique triangulation, supported by reference materials and member checking. The process of data analysis involved stages of collection, reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that differentiated learning strategies covering content, process, and product have been applied in classroom instruction, yet challenges persist, particularly regarding teachers’ limitations in adapting strategies to the diverse needs of students. The study concludes that enhancing teachers’ competence in differentiated instruction is essential to minimize teaching stress and improve the overall effectiveness of the learning process.
