Abstract

Digital transformation in education has brought significant implications to Indonesian learning practices, but it still leaves complex conceptual, technological, and pedagogical challenges. This research aims to systematically explore the challenges and opportunities in the implementation of digital-based Indonesian learning, as well as evaluate the impact of digital platforms on motivation, language skills, and the effectiveness of learning tools. This study uses the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method with a qualitative thematic synthesis approach based on 10 selected articles from the range of 2020 to 2025. The literature selection process follows the PRISMA 2020 flow, and data analysis is carried out through manual extraction of the key findings of each study. The results of the study show that the main challenges include low teacher digital literacy, a lack of integration of technology pedagogy, student unpreparedness in independent learning, and limited digital access and inclusivity. On the other hand, opportunities include the use of technology such as virtual reality, gamification, machine learning, and interactive media that can increase motivation and learning engagement. This study concludes that digital Indonesian learning requires a multidimensional theory-based approach to create an adaptive, inclusive, and transformative learning system.

Abstract

Tourism has become an important medium for education, cultural preservation, and sustainable community development. Coffee, as a form of local heritage, offers significant potential to be transformed into educational tourism that integrates learning experiences with social and economic empowerment. This study examines how design thinking can be integrated into the development of educational programs to support sustainable coffee edutourism in Sumbertangkil Village, Malang Regency. A qualitative case study approach was applied, with data collected from the management of the local Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis) through in-depth interviews and participatory observation during August 10–25, 2025. Data validity was ensured through source triangulation, and analysis followed the stages of design thinking: empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test. The findings indicate that the prototype stage produced an initial curriculum consisting of five programs: Coffee Explorer, Coffee & Family, Deep Beans, Coffee Homestay, and Coffee for All. Each program integrates experiential learning, visual media, and inclusive participation to strengthen coffee literacy, cultural identity, and local economic resilience. Although the prototype remains preliminary and constrained by institutional challenges, the curriculum provides a strategic foundation for developing sustainable educational tourism, enhancing community empowerment, and supporting rural development.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the growing phenomenon of bilingualism in children's animated media, but has not been widely studied from an interactional sociolinguistic perspective. The animated series Ibra Berkisah, produced by Manara, was chosen as the object of research because it features the character Hoho, who uses two languages, namely Indonesian and English, in the context of Islamic boarding schools. The purpose of this study is to analyze the forms of bilingualism that appear in the Hoho character, including the phenomena of code-switching and code-mixing used in interactions between characters, and to explain their function in the formation of identity and character. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with observation, documentation, and transcription of dialogue from eight representative episodes of the Ibra Berkisah series obtained from the official YouTube channel. Data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana through the processes of reduction, presentation, and conclusion. The results show that bilingualism in Hoho functions as a communication tool, a symbol of social status, a means of emotional expression, and a mechanism for adaptation to the Islamic boarding school environment. The shift from English to Indonesian dominance and the use of religious terms signify the internalization of spiritual values, leading to character transformation. Thus, the bilingualism in Ibra Berkisah not only reflects linguistic variation but also serves as a medium for social, moral, and identity learning for young audiences.

Abstract

The decline in politeness in educational institutions indicates a shift in social values in students' communication practices, which are increasingly permissive of using offensive language as a form of self-expression or a symbol of group solidarity. This study aims to explore in depth the forms, causal factors, and efforts to revitalize politeness in secondary schools, highlighting the emergence of swearing and teasing as forms of verbal bullying that signal a decline in communication ethics. Using a qualitative-interpretive approach, data were collected through participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation of students, teachers, and school administrators in several junior high schools in Waru District, Pamekasan. Analysis was conducted using the Dell Hymes SPEAKING model to explore the contextual dimensions of politeness and impoliteness. The results show that the decline in politeness is influenced by internal factors such as peer pressure, lack of habituation to polite language, and weak teacher role models. In contrast, external factors include social media influence, digital culture, and minimal family supervision. Revitalization efforts are carried out through polite speaking training, debate, language drama activities, and the integration of politeness values into all school activities. This research confirms that politeness decadence is not merely a linguistic issue but a sociocultural phenomenon that demands systematic and sustainable character education intervention to build a culture of polite communication in educational environments.

Abstract

This study examines the dominance of the bald-on-record (BOR) strategy and forms of politeness in cyberpolitical communication during the 2024 Indonesian Presidential Election. The phenomenon of direct speech without mitigation is a significant issue due to its association with increasing discursive tension and public polarization in the digital space. The purpose of this study is to analyze the distribution, pragmatic functions, and sociotechnical factors influencing the emergence of BOR, as well as positive and negative politeness, in online political discourse. The study uses a qualitative descriptive approach based on an interpretive paradigm. Data were obtained from YouTube video transcripts depicting speeches, debates, and political discussions from July 2023 to March 2024. These were then analysed using Brown and Levinson's (1987) politeness model and Culpeper's (2016) impoliteness theory. The results show that BOR dominates 70% of total speech, while positive and negative politeness account for 20% and 10%, respectively. BOR emerges in the form of vulgar insults, ideological stigma, and re-contextual irony due to the collapse of the digital context. The main triggering factors include the effects of online disinhibition, engagement algorithms, and the formation of digital community enclaves that normalize blunt communication styles. The study's conclusions confirm that BOR is not simply linguistic impoliteness, but rather a rhetorical strategy that utilizes platform logic to signal identity, mobilize emotions, and achieve political visibility. This research contributes to the development of politeness theory and provides practical recommendations for digital pragmatic literacy in Indonesian political communication.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the lack of comprehensive research on the representation of masculinity in classic Indonesian dangdut songs from the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. These songs contain authentic social constructions of male roles and characters in society, but have not been analyzed in depth using masculinity theory. This study aims to identify and analyze how male masculinity is represented in the lyrics of classic dangdut songs through the seven dimensions of masculinity proposed by Janet Saltzman Chafetz, namely physical, functional, sexual, emotional, intellectual, interpersonal, and personal characteristics. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with a critical discourse analysis approach. The results show that masculinity is presented in a multidimensional way: physically strong and tough; responsible as a breadwinner and leader; subtly expressing sexual interest; reflecting emotions such as regret and sadness; thinking logically and wisely; maintaining relationships with responsibility and maturity; and adhering to spiritual values and principles of life. These findings confirm that masculinity in classic dangdut songs is not merely synonymous with dominance, but also reflects the emotional, rational, and spiritual sides of men in Indonesian popular culture.

Abstract

Creative thinking is an important competency in facing the challenges of the 21st century, and literature is a medium for developing this ability. This article aims to uncover the representation of characters' creative thinking and the relationship between plot dynamics in the novel Bumi by Tere Liye. The study focuses on the main characters, namely Raib, Seli, and Ali, showing their creative thinking processes in dealing with conflicts and the dynamics of the storyline that support the development of creativity. The approach used is qualitative with content analysis techniques. Data were obtained from novel texts using intensive recording techniques of dialogues, narratives, and characters' actions that indicate the dimension of creative thinking. Analysis refers to creative thinking indicators that include fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration. The study's results show that the three main characters have different representations of creative thinking. Ali stands out more for fluency and flexibility. Raib shows originality in discovering his identity and distinctive strengths. Seli shows elaboration through creative actions that are directed and applicable in crises. The plot's progressive, surprising, and conflict-driven dynamics support the emergence of the characters' creative actions, forming an integration between characters and events. This study confirms that the novel Bumi not only presents fantasy stories but also serves as a relevant medium for developing creative thinking skills through creative literacy.

Abstract

Serat Palilindon 9 L 197 is a palm-leaf manuscript written in the Buda script from the Merapi-Merbabu tradition that records narratives of disasters, especially earthquakes (lindu), as cosmic events laden with moral, social, and spiritual meaning. This manuscript reflects the worldview of pre-modern Javanese society, which interpreted nature not merely as a physical phenomenon, but as the language of the cosmos and a means of ecological ethics. This study aims to analyze the representation of nature in the Palilindon section (lempir 2r-4v) through Cheryll Glotfelty's ecocritical approach using the concepts of nature as text, environmental ethics, and human-nature interaction. The research uses a descriptive qualitative method with content analysis techniques (Krippendorff, 2018). The main data consists of digital manuscripts from the National Library of Indonesia (Khastara) collection and validated transliteration results. The results of the study show five thematic categories, namely (1) natural phenomena as signs of disharmony, (2) human socio-spiritual responses to disasters, (3) symbolic/cosmological meanings through the Hijri calendar, (4) the reciprocal relationship between humans and nature, and (5) ecological values that emphasize solidarity and cosmic balance. The conclusion of the study affirms that Serat Palilindon presents nature as an active agent and an ethical, spiritual text that teaches balance among faith, morality, and ecology.

Abstract

This study examines the representation of figurative symbols in Minangkabau proverbs using a discourse analysis approach to understand the symbolic relationship between language, culture, and environment in the oral tradition of the Minangkabau people. The study focuses on identifying forms of figurative symbols based on Michael C. Haley's Theory of human perception space, which includes the categories of human, living, and terrestrial. This research used a qualitative descriptive method through content analysis of 1000 Minangkabau proverbs by Idrus Hakimy as well as employed field observations. The analysis was carried out by mapping figurative symbols into nine categories of human perception and interpreting their meanings in a sociocultural context. The results showed that the human Category dominates with a proportion of 42.7%, followed by the living category (16.1%), while the terrestrial Category only accounts for 0.9%. Theoretically, this study expands the application of Haley's perception framework in the local Minangkabau context, revealing the close interaction between human perception, ecological experience, and cultural wisdom. Practically, this study confirms the role of proverbs as a medium for preserving local wisdom values and a means of cultural education. Thus, Minangkabau proverbs have been functioned as a cognitive archive of ecological culture that preserves, passes on, and strengthens the community's cultural identity amid changing times.

Abstract

The Lauje language, spoken by communities in Parigi Moutong Regency, Central Sulawesi, reflects a rich cultural and social identity, yet faces the threat of extinction due to the dominance of Indonesian and the impact of globalization. This study aims to explore the forms, functions, and strategies of directive speech acts in the Lauje language, which remain largely undocumented in linguistic research. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed to achieve this goal. Data was collected through field observation, audio recording of natural conversations, and interviews with native speakers in Moubang Village, a culturally representative Lauje-speaking area. Data collection techniques included eavesdropping, recording, and note-taking, while the analysis involved data reduction, categorization, interpretation, and validation using source and theoretical triangulation. The findings reveal six distinct forms of directive speech acts —commanding, ordering, requesting, asking, suggesting, and advising —each with specific social functions and realized through both direct and indirect strategies. These patterns reflect the speaker's sensitivity to social context, hierarchy, and politeness norms. The study concludes that directive speech acts in Lauje serve not only communicative purposes but also preserve the community's cultural values and relational dynamics. The research contributes to pragmatic studies of regional languages and supports efforts to document and revitalize endangered linguistic heritage in Indonesia.
