Abstract

Oral translation of Arabic to Tamil is among the greatest challenges because of the inherent disparity between the two languages’ phonological patterns, specifically in the area of stress. Stress is important in communicating meaning properly while oral translating; a mistake in the use of stress can introduce a change in meaning, thus influencing the perception of the listener. Students and translators face difficulties primarily due to their unfamiliarity with stress patterns and their lack of capability to properly transfer them from one language to another. The study aims to clarify the reality of students in applying stress in oral translation from Arabic to Tamil, and to identify their needs in this field. The researchers used qualitative and quantitative methods, using a descriptive-analytical approach. The primary data were gathered through interviews with four lecturers and questionnaires distributed to 39 students of specializations in the Arabic language and literature, linguistics and translation, academic year 2021/2022 at the Department of Arabic Language, South Eastern University of Sri Lanka. Furthermore, the researchers used secondary data such as books, research papers, articles, and academic theses, and Microsoft Excel to conduct data analysis. Outcomes indicated that there was a significant correlation between stress and oral translation. They realized that 73% of the students’ made mistakes in practice of stress pattern in oral translation such as: 32% made mistakes in applying stress in the Tamil language, 8% misplaced the stress, 8% put Tamil sentences in the wrong order according to stress, 4% made grammatical mistakes beforehand, and 21% changed the meaning of the sentences from positive to negative. These mistakes were caused by a lack of knowledge regarding stress in both languages, misusing stress, and a lack of proper training and practice.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the importance of teacher teaching motivation in supporting the quality of learning in madrasahs. Two factors believed to play a role in increasing teacher motivation are academic supervision and compensation. Academic supervision is a guidance process carried out by a supervisor, namely the school principal, to improve the quality of teaching conducted by teachers. Effective academic supervision by the head of the madrasah can help teachers develop their competencies, while appropriate compensation serves as an external incentive that influences work enthusiasm. However, the influence of these two factors on teaching motivation still needs to be further examined, especially in the context of Madrasah Tsanawiyah Nurfadhilah Manggarupi Gowa. Madrasah Tsanawiyah is a lower secondary education level within the Islamic education system in Indonesia, equivalent to junior high school (grades 7–9) in the international education system. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that academic supervision and compensation do influence teaching motivation, although the effect is relatively weak. Therefore, it is recommended that the madrasah head provide appreciation to high-performing teachers to improve their motivation and performance. In addition, teachers are expected to remain motivated to develop their professionalism through training, especially in the preparation of learning tools, and to develop the habit of reviewing literature relevant to their areas of expertise.

Abstract

Learning media is one of the important elements in the success of the learning process, especially Arabic language learning. Appropriate learning media helps students understand the learning materials delivered by the teacher. Strip story media is a very effective learning media in learning Arabic writing skills. This study aims to analyze the effect of strip story media on improving students' writing skills. The research approach used is Quantitative Research. This type of research is a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group design. The subjects of this study were students of class VIII 1 as the control class and class VIII 3 as the experimental class in a junior high school. The research instruments included pre-test and post-test questions to measure the level of students' writing skills. The data obtained were analyzed using statistical tests to determine the differences in learning outcomes between the control class and the experimental class. The results showed that there were significant differences between the two classes. With the comparative value of the mean results at the time of the pretest and posttest, namely the pretest in the experimental class 57.1 with the Dhaif criteria and the posttest 72.1 with the Maqbul criteria, while the pretest in the control class 56.8 with the Dhaif criteria and the posttest 61.8 with the Dhaif criteria too. Students who learn with strip story media experience a greater increase in writing skills compared to students in the control class. Thus, strip story media can be used as an effective alternative in Arabic language learning to improve students' writing skills.

Abstract

This study analyzes the Arabic Language (Nahwu & Sharaf) textbook for Class XI of the Madrasah Aliyah religious specialization program. Using a qualitative descriptive method, data were collected through document analysis and evaluated against curriculum standards. Findings reveal that the textbook is systematically structured with interrelated chapters, supporting continuous learning. Strengths include an inductive approach, relevance to the curriculum, and integration of socio-cultural values. However, weaknesses such as inconsistent use of harakat, limited illustrative visuals, and less varied material delivery hinder its effectiveness. The study concludes that while the textbook is effective, improvements in presentation, material consistency, and adaptability to diverse student characteristics are needed to enhance motivation and learning outcomes.

Abstract

In the context of the massive wave of globalization that has the potential to erode cultural identity, the field of education is required not only to serve as a medium for the transfer of knowledge, but also as a strategic instrument in preserving local cultural values. This research aims to describe: (1) the development process of locally-based listening materials for Arabic language instruction at Madrasah Tsanawiyah in Pamekasan, (2) to determine the validity of the developed materials, and (3) to assess their effectiveness in improving students’ listening skills. The research method employed in this study is Research and Development (R&D) using the ADDIE model, which consists of five stages: needs analysis, product design, product development, product implementation, and product evaluation. The data collection techniques used by the researcher include observation and interviews with qualitative data analysis, while questionnaires and tests are analyzed using quantitative methods through the Likert scale and the Paired Sample t-test. The results of the study indicate that: The process of preparing the teaching materials begins with the stage of analyzing students' needs using questionnaires and teacher interviews. The teaching materials are then designed in the form of a book. The development of listening skill teaching materials based on local wisdom received a score of 94% from the material validation, 92% from the language validation, and 91% from the design validation. Regarding the effectiveness of the product, using pre-tests and post-tests, the researcher obtained a result of 53.789, which is greater than the t-value at 0.05, thus the null hypothesis Ho is rejected. This indicates a significant change after the product trial, and the teaching material is effective in improving students' Arabic listening skills.

Abstract

Given the unique and immersive English language environment at Pondok Pesantren and MA As-Salafiyah Sumber Duko Pameksan , a comparative analysis of student engagement in both formal (classroom-based) and supplemental (extracurricular) English classes becomes essential. This research eventually aims to address the strengths and weaknesses of formal English instruction in fostering language proficiency among students at MA As-Salafiyah is, to what extent students actively engage with the content and teaching methods employed in formal English classes and how students perceive the value and impact of participating in extracurricular language activities. The study employed a qualitative research method with case study analysis., The findings reveal a complex interplay of factors influencing language learning in this context. While formal instruction, grounded in linguistic theory and structured lesson plans, provides a solid foundation, it faces challenges related to time constraints, limited real-world application, and student engagement. Conversely, extracurricular language activities, such as English camps, clubs, and competitions, are highly valued by both students and teachers for their immersive nature, focus on practical communication, and positive impact on motivation and confidence. These activities foster a sense of community among learners and complement formal instruction by providing opportunities for authentic language use and personal growth. The study concludes that a holistic approach that integrates formal instruction with engaging extracurricular activities, supported by adequate resources and a positive learning environment, can optimize language learning outcomes and foster a positive learning experience for students.
