Abstract

Humility has been a neglected virtue in the social and psychological sciences. Owing to the nature of the construct itself, humility poses some special challenges to researchers wishing to assess individual differences. Although there have been significant strides in research in humility, especially in intellectual humility, this research has yet to test measures of humility in non-Western, religious populations. The present study builds on previous research by testing Indonesian versions of humility scales. We measure humility construct based on eight domains identified by Davis and Hook (2014), namely openness/lack of superiority, other-oriented/unselfish, admit mistakes/teachable, interpersonal modesty, accurate view of self, global humility, spiritual humility, and regulate need for status. The data was analyzed using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) (N=390). Among 44 items theorized to measure Humility, 8 items do not fit the model and are deemed as not valid, while the other 36 items are valid. The recommendation for future research is to further develop the instrument of humility as some factors still have very few items.

Abstract

This article introduces the Klasika software developed to run item and test analysis using the Classical Test Theory approach. Classical Test Theory is one of the specialized competencies and skills that undergraduate students of psychology must possess. Classical Test Theory becomes a mandatory course for all schools or departments of psychology in Indonesia. This article also provides a theoretical foundation of Classical Test Theory's essential concepts and statistical methods, specifically related to items and test statistics. The item analysis and test reliability procedures using Klasika, starting from the data preparation untill data interpretation, are explained with an empirical illustration. Finally, the analysis results using Klasika are compared with the results from Quest software to test the accuracy of the estimation results.

Abstract

Multiple linear regression analysis is widely used among psychological researchers to answer their research question related to causality relationship. Exploring the relative importance of independent variables in explaining the total variation in dependent variable is one of the primary interests upon finding a good fit model from the data. This paper considers two popular methods to obtain relative importance, namely Shapley value regression and relative weight analysis. Both are able to break down the R2 of the full model into individual contribution proportion of each independent variable while accounting for the correlations between independent variables and thus offer easily interpretable effect size measures for regressions. Kaggle’s empirical data from the World Happiness 2019 will illustrate the theoretical concept of methods above.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the psychometric properties of the Brief Sensation-seeking Scale (BSSS, Hoyle et al., 2002) in an Indonesian sample. A set of questionnaires consisting of an adaptation of the BSSS, Ten Item Personality Inventory (TIPI)-Indonesia, and a risky driving behavior scale were administered to 360 participants with an average age of 25.23 years. The reliability test using the internal consistency method showed high reliability (α=0.79). CFA analysis shows that the factor structure of the 4-factor BSSS-Indonesia model is more fit to the data than the 1-factor model. Construct validity was also found from the results of the correlation analysis of the BSSS-I score with the personality traits of openness to experience (convergent), agreeableness, and conscientiousness (discriminant). Regarding demographics, it was found that there were differences in the average scores between both sexes and age groups. The BSSS-I score was also found to be a significant predictor of risky driving behavior (concurrent validity). Taken together, the findings of this study show satisfactory evidence of psychometric properties, in line with previous adaptation of BSSS in several other cultures. This indicates that the BSSS-I is a sound instrument to measure trait sensation-seeking in the Indonesian population.

Abstract

This research is a simulation study using resampling methods to see the effect of sample size, test length, and person-item targeting on separation reliability in the Rasch Model. Simulation conditions were created with several predetermined factors, namely sample size with five conditions (200, 500, 1000, 2000, and 4000 person), test length with three conditions (20, 40, and 60 items), and person-item targeting with five conditions (-2, -1, 0, 1, and 2 logit). The total number of conditions is 75 conditions where each condition is replicated 50 times so that a total of 3.750 data are generated. The data is generated using WinGen software. The results of the separation reliability analysis were analyzed using Winsteps software. The separation reliability criteria set are for Person Separation Reliability (PSR) > 0.80 and for Item Separation Reliability (ISR) > 0.90. The results showed that 75 conditions (100%) resulted in ISR estimates that met the criteria (> 0.90). For PSR estimation, 37 conditions (49%) resulted in PSR estimates that met the criteria (> 0.80) and 38 conditions (51%) resulted in PSR estimates that did not meet the criteria (< 0.80). In addition, PSR estimation is influenced by test length and person-item targeting.

Abstract

There has been a lack of anxiety assessments designed explicitly in the context of COVID-19, particularly screening tools that are easy to understand for diverse demographics and easily administered to accommodate Indonesia’s large population. CAS-7 has proven to be an effectively administrable, reliable, and valid assessment to measure pandemic‑related anxiety among the Indian population. This study aimed to adapt and validate CAS-7 to provide a reliable and valid screening tool to timely identify citizens of Indonesia suffering from pandemic-related anxiety and assign them suitable interventions. There were 1,121 subjects from 29 provinces participated in the study. Factorial validity was tested with Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) in JASP 15.0.0. while convergent validity, test-retest reliability, and internal reliability were tested with Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient, intraclass correlation coefficient, and Cronbach’s alpha in SPSS 25. The adaptation of CAS-7 has proven to be a satisfactory, reliable, and valid screening tool for identifying citizens of Indonesia suffering from pandemic-related anxiety, with changes made in item arrangement and factor interpretation.

Abstract

Economic behavior has attracted scholars in the last decade, and past studies measured this construct partially from consumptive perspectives or entrepreneurial behavior (Mulyani et al., 2018). Therefore, this study aims to develop a new and valid measurement of students’ economic behavior and investigate its content validity using an exploratory factor analysis (EFA). The content validity is provided using an experts’ assessment method with a 4-point evaluation form. At the same time, the exploratory factor analysis is performed using SPSS. This study involved content validity assessment for each item (I-CVI) for the entire scale (S-CVI/Ave). Based on the analysis of the questionnaire scale, it can be concluded that the content validity check using I-CVI, S-CVI/Ave, and S-CVI/UA is all satisfactory except for item SEB20, which was subsequently dropped. On the other hand, the results of EFA indicated that two more items did not meet the thresholds and, thus, were excluded. Therefore, developing instruments to measure students’ economic behavior is prominent in dealing with digital changes, preventing consumptive behavior, and enhancing economic well-being.

Abstract

This study aims to test the construct validity of the technostress instrument using an instrument developed by Ragu-Nathan et al. (2008) contained 20 modified items using the Indonesian language. The research data was obtained from middle adult teaching staff, namely teachers and lecturers aged 35-60 who taught online learning during Covid-19. 212 respondents participated in this study. The test used confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) with first-order per-dimensional, first-order unidimensional, and second-order models. The analysis was done in MPLUS. Based on CFA first-order unidimensional results, the model fits the data with one item discarded (Item 17). The CFA second-order model is also fit according to the goodness criteria with all items being valid except item 6. According to CFA first-order per-dimensional testing, results show that items for three dimensions (techno-overload, techno-complexity, and techno-insecurity) are valid, while the other two dimensions (techno-uncertainty and techno-invasion) are not fit because the number of items is too small. The instrument can be used to measure technostress and is considered to be unidimensional measuring technostress.

Abstract

Psychological tests require continuous refinement and evaluation to ensure their effectiveness. This study aimed to evaluate the factor structure, invariance, item quality, and differential item functioning (DIF) of the 60-item Myers–Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) among Indonesian students using modern psychometric methods. Involving 7,526 participants, the results of the item factor analysis (IFA) indicated that a single-factor model for each MBTI dimension adequately fit the data, supporting satisfactory construct validity. The Infit and Outfit MNSQ values ranged between 0.5 and 1.5, demonstrating good item quality. Moreover, no gender bias was detected based on the DIF Contrast effect size, indicating that MBTI items function equivalently for male and female students. These findings provide strong empirical evidence for the psychometric validity and reliability of the MBTI in the Indonesian context and represent the first large-scale study contributing to the refinement and modernization of the instrument in alignment with national legislative standards for psychological test use.

Abstract

The complexity of the IRT analysis makes it difficult to perform manually, therefore requiring easy-to-use software. While many software options exist for IRT analysis, the high cost of paid software can make it inaccessible for many students and lecturers in Indonesia. While the mirt package provides a complete, free option for IRT analysis, proficiency in the R programming language is required. This study aims to develop an R package for IRT analysis, equipped with a user-friendly interface based on the mirt package, designed to be easy to use for beginners in IRT analysis. The System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) model is used for development and includes five stages: Planning, Analysis, Design, Implementation, and System. The resulting package is named irtawsi and includes functionality comparable to paid software. This package can calibrate both test and non-test instruments using various IRT models, such as the Rasch, 2PL, 3PL, 4PL, GRM, PCM, and GPCM models. The irtawsi package functionality includes: (1) an easy-to-use user interface, (2) automatic interpretation of analysis results, (3) a guide for IRT analysis, (4) recommendations when assumptions are not met, (5) an HTML report format for analysis results,(6) support for two languages (Indonesian and English), (7) it is free, and (8) can be installed on Windows, macOS, and Linux operating systems. The results of this development contribute to the calibration process, making it easier for practitioners and researchers to calibrate the instruments being developed, especially for beginners who are learning IRT.
