Abstract

Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) is collection of physical, psychological, and behavioral symptoms that occur before menstruation and can disrupt daily activities, especially in adolescent girls. Poor diet and low physical activity are two lifestyle factors that can trigger or worsen PMS symptoms. This study aims to determine the relationship between diet and physical activity with the incidence of PMS 10th grade female adolescents at SMK Fania Salsabila, Jambi City. The method used is quantitative study with crosssectional approach. Total 60 respondents were selected using proportional random sampling techniques from total population 120 female students. The study was conducted in May 2025. Data were collected using Semi Quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire (SQ-FFQ), Global Physical Activity Questionnaire (GPAQ), and Shortened Premenstrual Assessment Form (SPAF). Data analysis was carried out univariately and bivariately using the Chi-Square test. The results of the study showed that the majority of respondents had poor eating patterns, namely 45 respondents (75.0%), low physical activity levels were 38 respondents (63.3%), and severe PMS symptoms were 29 respondents (48.3%). There was a significant relationship between eating patterns and the incidence of PMS (p < 0.05), as well as between physical activity and the incidence of PMS (p < 0.05). It can be concluded that adolescents with unhealthy eating patterns and low physical activity have higher risk of experiencing PMS with moderate to severe symptoms. This study recommends health education and school-based interventions regarding the importance of healthy lifestyle to prevent or reduce the impact of PMS on adolescents.

Abstract

One of the nutritional problems often experienced by adolescent girls is anemia. Adolescent girls are categorized as having anemia if the hemoglobin (Hb) level in the blood is less than 12 gr/dl. The type of anemia that often occurs is iron deficiency anemia, which is generally caused by blood loss during menstruation and increased iron requirements during puberty. As an effort to overcome this, a sustainable anemia prevention program was designed through the formation and strengthening of the Anemia Ambassador Team. This strengthening is carried out by providing education about anemia to adolescent girls. The purpose of this strengthening is to form peer cadres who play an active role in the prevention and control of anemia in the school environment on an ongoing basis. This activity was carried out in Al Hidayah Islamic Boarding School, Jambi City. The target of the activity was 13 people, with the FGD method and guidance. The results of the community service were obtained by forming ORSADA Cadres selected from peers who are expected to have a strong influence and be able to convey information about anemia, an increase in the knowledge of cadres about preventing anemia

Abstract

Anemia is a public health problem in Indonesia that affects all age groups, from toddlers to the elderly. In 2018, 32% of Indonesian adolescents suffered from anemia, and it is estimated that the majority of anemia is due to iron deficiency resulting from insufficient intake of iron-rich foods, particularly animal-based foods. Iron deficiency anemia is most common in adolescent girls due to excessive blood loss during menstruation, and their iron needs increase during puberty. This puts them at risk of decreased immunity, impaired concentration in learning, and complications during pregnancy. The purpose of this community service is to increase adolescent girls' knowledge about iron deficiency anemia. The methods used in this activity include discussion, mentoring, and persuasive communication. The target group for this community service were 25 adolescent girls from the Al Hidayah Islamic Boarding School. The results showed an increase in the adolescent girls' knowledge about iron deficiency, from an average of 78% to 97%. The adolescent girls are advised to actively seek information about the dangers of anemia and to pay attention to their nutritional intake to avoid anemia
