Abstract

Stunting and anemia remain major public health problems in Indonesia, particularly in Maluku Province, where prevalence rates continue to exceed national targets. This community service program aimed to reduce the risk of stunting by integrating anemia screening with maternal health education in Dullah Laut and Tamadan Villages, Tual City. The program was implemented over three days and consisted of counseling sessions on nutrition, hygiene, and dietary practices; anemia screening; general health checks; and the distribution of vitamins to toddlers. Screening results showed that in Dullah Laut Village, only 21 children demonstrated good nutritional status, while 18 were categorized as poor, very poor, or bad. By contrast, in Tamadan Village, 35 children were in good nutritional condition, with only two classified as poor. Counseling activities engaged 57 mothers in Wab Village and 64 mothers in Debut Village, focusing on clean and healthy living behavior, worm infestation, anemia prevention, and toddler nutrition. These findings highlight the urgent need for targeted, community-based interventions to address nutritional challenges, particularly in areas with high poverty, sanitation problems, and limited parental knowledge. The integration of screening and health education through Posyandu proved to be an effective approach for enhancing maternal awareness and supporting early detection of anemia, with the potential to contribute to stunting reduction efforts in Southeast Maluku.

Abstract

Cervical cancer is one of the diseases caused by HPV virus infection. Cervical cancer ranks second as the leading cause of death in women in Indonesia. Based on WHO recommendations, HPV vaccine administration is the main prophylaxis to prevent cervical cancer which can be given from the age of 9 years. The effectiveness of the HPV vaccination program is influenced by one's knowledge and attitude. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the level of knowledge and attitude of parents/guardians with the acceptance of the Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine in 5th grade elementary school students in Ambon City in 2024. This study used a correlation analytic design with a cross sectional approach. There were 112 respondents from ten grade 5 elementary schools selected by total sampling technique. Data were collected using a questionnaire research instrument of knowledge level, attitude, and acceptance of HPV vaccine. The data analysis technique used the Chi-square test. The results showed that the majority of respondents had a high level of knowledge (92.0%) with a high attitude (83.9%), and the majority accepted (50.9%). There was no relationship between knowledge and acceptance (p=0.015) with a value of r=0.105. There is no relationship between attitude and acceptance (p=0.734), with a value of r=0.735. So, it can be concluded that there is no significant relationship between the level of knowledge and attitude of parents/guardians with HPV vaccine acceptance.

Abstract

Malaria remains a significant public health challenge in tropical regions, including East Seram Regency in Maluku Province, which continues to experience high malaria endemicity. Community education plays a vital role in shaping health literacy and malaria knowledge. This cross-sectional study examined the association between education level and malaria knowledge among 253 randomly selected respondents using a validated questionnaire. Logistic regression analysis examined the relationship between education, healthcare facility visits, and malaria knowledge. The findings indicated that higher education level was strongly associated with better malaria knowledge (OR=6.93; 95% CI: 1.89–25.45; p=0.003). Respondents who had visited health facilities were more likely to have good malaria knowledge (OR=2.45; 95% CI: 1.38–2.90; p=0.001). Other variables, including gender, marital status, income, and age, were not statistically significant after adjustment. To reduce malaria burden, scalable interventions should prioritize educational outreach and improve access to quality health services. Integrating these strategies into regional malaria control programs can enhance community health literacy and support sustainable prevention efforts.
