Abstract

Pain is a sensory experience that interferes with an individual's daily activities and functions as a protective mechanism for the body against dangerous stimuli causing damage to the body. Acupuncture has become an increasingly popular alternative therapy for managing various types of pain. The use of acupuncture therapy is used as an alternative therapy to conventional medical therapy. This study aims to identify and describe the level of pain intensity in patients receiving acupuncture therapy at the Traditional Health Service at the Bali Mandara Regional General Hospital. This study's pre-experimental design uses a one-group pretest-posttest design. This research involved 66 respondents who had different pain criteria. Before being given treatment in the form of acupuncture therapy, 50 respondents (75.8%) had severe pain and 16 respondents (24.2%) had moderate pain. After being given acupuncture therapy, 52 (78.8%) had mild pain and 14 (21.2%) showed moderate pain category. The Wilcoxon test results showed a significant difference (p = 0.000) between the pain scale before and after acupuncture therapy. This study shows that acupuncture is proven to be reduce pain intensity in various pain complaints.

Abstract

Acne is a common dermatological condition affecting up to 85% of the global population, primarily triggered by hormonal fluctuations that increase sebum production and promote the proliferation of Cutibacterium acnes. The management of excessive sebum has become a crucial strategy in acne treatment, alongside conventional therapies such as antibiotics, including minocycline and doxycycline. Historically, prior to the development of synthetic pharmaceuticals, natural remedies played a significant role in acne treatment and continue to be widely used today, particularly in rural communities. Objective: This study aimed to explore the types of medicinal plants traditionally used as anti-acne treatments by the community of Bukian Payangan Village, Bali. Methods: This research employed a quantitative descriptive design. Sampling was conducted using the snowball sampling technique. Data were collected from 100 respondents using a structured checklist. Results: There were 13 types of anti-acne plants including Jackfruit, Fern, Lime, Teki Grass, Aloe Vera, Chinese Betel, Tomato, Moringa, Turmeric, Red Bean, Cucumber, Pepper, and Sandalwood, where Jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus) had a Use Value the highest (0.44) came from the yard of the house (39%). The most widely used parts of the plant are leaves (64.30%) by processing, namely squeezed (54.95%) and used by pasting (87%) on acne-prone facial areas. The most felt benefits related to reducing oily skin. Conclusion: There are as many as 13 plants as anti-acne, with the dominance of use on the leaves and having the main effect of sebum control.

Abstract

Abstract Antibiotic resistance is closely related to the inappropriate use of antibiotics, namely the indication, dose, frequency, and duration of use. Permenkes No. 5 of 2014 states that acute pharyngitis is given antibiotic therapy if it meets the diagnostic criteria using the center criteria, but this criterion is difficult to apply because doctors take longer to diagnose. Previous research at the Klungkung I Primary Health Center used diagnosis utilizing a swab test. It was found that 100% of bacterial pharyngitis patients were negative. The strategy of delaying antibiotics for 3 days can prevent antibiotic resistance, but in therapy, without antibiotics, it is important to increase the effectiveness of therapy, it is deemed necessary by the researchers to conduct a study to analyze the factors that affect the recovery of patients with acute pharyngitis, which are mainly caused by viruses. Analyzing the factors that affect the recovery of viral pharyngitis patients. The design of the cross-sectional study was through observation of the medical record data of patients who came to the Klungkung Primary Health Center I for 3 months and got diagnostic facilities using the swab test. Patients who got a negative swab test were analyzed for the factors that influenced their recovery. Anti-inflammatory variables, rest, and paracetamol significantly affected the recovery of acute pharyngitis patients (p <0.05), and the importance index in CART analysis found that paracetamol was the most influential, followed by rest, administration of vitamins, and anti-inflammatory. Antibiotics, anti-allergies, and cough medicines do not affect the recovery of patients with acute pharyngitis viral. Paracetamol has the most effect on patient recovery, followed by rest and administration of vitamins, anti-inflammatory has very little effect on the recovery in patients of acute pharyngitis viral. Keywords: acute pharyngitis, cure, CART.

Abstract

Premature skin aging is increasingly prevalent among individuals in their mid-20s to 30s, influenced by genetic, lifestyle, and environmental factors. Probiotics have emerged as a promising natural intervention to address this issue. This systematic review aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of oral and topical probiotics in preventing and managing signs of premature skin aging. A systematic search of PubMed and Scopus was conducted for Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) published between 2020 and 2025, using PICO-based inclusion and exclusion criteria. Methodological quality was assessed with the JBI checklist. Of 202 articles screened, eight RCTs were included. Results showed that oral probiotics improved skin quality by enhancing collagen production (24%), hydration (18%), and antioxidant activity, while topical probiotics reduced wrinkles (22%) and increased skin density (15%). In conclusion, oral and topical probiotics represent effective dual strategies for combating premature skin aging, though further studies are needed to optimize strain-specific formulations.

Abstract

The digitalization of education is reshaping pharmacy instruction through the integration of online learning systems. While the adoption of digital learning continues to grow, research on the perceptions, readiness, and challenges faced by students and faculty in Indonesia remains limited. Understanding these factors is essential for formulating effective strategies in online education. This study investigates the perceptions, readiness, and obstacles encountered by pharmacy students and faculty at Bali International University in relation to online education. It further explores barriers to digital learning and their impact on development needs. Employing a sequential explanatory mixed-methods design, the study first gathered quantitative data, followed by qualitative insights through in-depth interviews. A total of 329 respondents participated in the research. The quantitative results revealed no significant association between readiness (OR = 0.957, 95% CI = 0.869–1.055, p = 0.399) or attitude (OR = 1.059, 95% CI = 0.929–1.207, p = 0.364) and development needs. However, barriers showed a statistically significant correlation with development (OR = 1.777, 95% CI = 1.066–2.964, p = 0.027). Qualitative data, analyzed using a thematic framework, identified five central themes: accessibility, collaboration, ICT utilization, professional development, and the broader implications of digitalization in pharmacy education. This study underscores the transformative potential of digital technology and the importance of addressing existing challenges to enhance the quality and accessibility of pharmacy education. These improvements are vital to equipping future pharmacists with the competencies required to thrive in global healthcare systems and effectively contribute to integrated pharmacy services worldwide.
