Abstract

The Borobudur area is a cultural heritage area that is not only an ancestral cultural heritage but also a tourist attraction. The development of heritage tourism in the Borobudur area has developed not only around the temple. However, it has developed into the residential area of the surrounding villagers as a rural tourism activity. This tourism activity impacts changes in elements of rural space, such as houses, public facilities, and roads, thus affecting the authenticity value as a rural tourist attraction, which is the basis for developing a tourist village. The setting and resources, the basic concept of a tourist village, are the spatial system of changing rural space elements. This spatial change of elements is caused by the spatial adaptation made by the user due to changes in ideas and behavior, which are influenced by additional functions in the space element. This study aims to explain the process of adapting spatial elements in tourist villages in the Borobudur area, using a rationalistic qualitative research method with multiple case studies with case units of 3 tourist villages in the Borobudur area, including Borobudur, Candirejo, and Wanurejo villages. The research findings are the process and form of adaptation of rural spatial elements. This research is expected to be used for village development to maintain its authenticity value as a tourist attraction. Keywords: adaptation, spatial elements, tourism village, Borobudur

Abstract

Culture is one of the local resources that can be a tourist attraction for domestic and even foreign tourists. The cultural tourism attraction has a competitive advantage because it has uniqueness and distinctiveness that are different in each region. Besides that, cultural tourism can provide new knowledge and experience, which is the essence of the growing trend of quality tourism today. However, cultural tourism space as a media for expression and preservation of local culture is still not clearly explained, so the application and development of cultural tourism space, especially in Indonesia, is still not optimal and has a direct impact on society and its environment. This research aims to explain in detail the concept and application of cultural tourism spaces as a forum for community expression, cultural preservation, and economic impact. This research uses a literature review method to be able to explain the concept of cultural tourism space in the context of Indonesia so that a description of the concept and how the application of cultural tourism space can be used as a guide to the development of cultural tourism space in the context of Indonesia can be produced.

Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to analyze the management of the Sunan Ampel tourist area in Surabaya by highlighting the role of the community in the spatial, cultural, and historical context of the area. The phenomena that occur in this area include the pressure of modernization that threatens the spatial uniqueness of the cultural heritage area, as well as the imbalance between the great potential of the site as a cultural heritage and suboptimal management. Other problems include land use density, low accessibility, overlapping land functions, and minimal attention to environmental sustainability and balanced spatial management. In addition, tourism management that is not integrated enough between the community, government, and private sector is also an obstacle. Through a qualitative approach, data were collected using field observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation, which were then analyzed using NVivo and a theory-based spatial approach. The findings show that the role of local communities through subtracks—micro paths resulting from social adaptation—plays an important role in maintaining the continuity of historical functions and tourism activities. This study concludes that management of history-based areas requires active collaboration between the community, government, and local business actors with an adaptive and sustainable spatial approach.

Abstract

Kalakijo is one of the tourist villages in Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta, which has a featured attraction, namely Ingkung Ayam as a traditional culinary product. In its development, food waste from the culinary sector is one of the main problems in this village because it is still conventionally disposed of and not processed sustainably. The closure of the Piyungan landfill has resulted in an accumulation of food waste that should be the responsibility of the village, but limited resources for food waste processing pose a difficulty for the local community. This situation presents the potential for waste generation that disrupts environmental sustainability and tourism activities in Kalakijo. This community service activity aims to provide training to local communities in sustainable tourism governance. At this stage, activities are carried out through direct observation and training methods using Adult Learning principles. The result of the community service is an increased understanding among the Kalakijo community of sustainable tourism through the utilization of waste from tourism activities into something valuable and beneficial for the environment and society.
