Abstract

One important activity for tourism promotion is organizing various MICE (Meeting Incentive Conference Exhibition) events on both local and international scales. MICE is a business primarily supported by SMEs, both as organizers and suppliers/vendors. However, MICE business owners often don't understand how to keep their businesses sustainable, and suppliers often just hope their businesses continue without understanding how. This research aims to identify factors that can support the business continuity of MICE industry players. The study was conducted using the grounded theory model, starting with in-depth interviews with event organizers and suppliers in Yogyakarta to identify factors that would be used to develop a theory, with the assistance of coding in NVIVO software. These factors, which were transformed into a theory, were then directly tested on business actors (80 respondents) using multiple regression analysis. Based on the results of the regression test, it was found that the 8 keywords generated from NVIVO data processing do indeed have a significant influence on supporting the sustainability of the MICE business, both partially and simultaneously. The eight keywords are Commitment & Contract, Innovation & Novelty of Event; Mutual Partnership; Payment; Portfolio & Experience; Product Quality; Profit; Zero Complaint.

Abstract

Abstract

Meeting Incentive Conference and Exhibition (MICE) is one of the proud sectors of the tourism business for many destinations in Indonesia. Its ability to support the economy, particularly in absorbing labor through MSME, is the main reason MICE is a prioritized business. There are many factors that significantly impact the sustainability of the MICE business, involving organizers (EOs), suppliers (vendors), and project owners (government/private sector). This research aims to identify a number of factors that influence the sustainability of the MICE industry. Data observation was conducted using a sequential mixed method. In the qualitative data observation processed with NVIVO, 5 variables were successfully identified as theoretical constructs influencing the sustainability of the MICE business: Commitment; Product Innovation; Product Capacity; Product Quality & Control; Time, as well as one moderating variable: Payment. The payment variable plays an important role in supporting the provision and operation of Product Capacity, Product Quality & Control, and Time. On the quantitative data, those variables were then tested on 147 MICE practitioners consisting of organizers and suppliers using PLS-SEM to prove the validity of their influence on the sustainability of their businesses. Detailed discussions are presented further in this paper.

Batik Bakaran is one of Indonesia’s traditional textile arts that holds significant cultural and historical value. Preserving this heritage is not only important for maintaining cultural identity but also for developing cultural-based tourism. This research aims to analyze the strategies implemented to sustain the existence of Batik Bakaran and promote it as a cultural tourism attraction in Bakaran Village, Pati Regency. Using a qualitative descriptive method, the study involved interviews with artisans, local government officials, and tourism stakeholders. The findings indicate that preservation efforts include the development of batik training programs, integration of batik education in schools, and the revitalization of traditional motifs. Meanwhile, promotion strategies focus on branding, digital marketing, and the creation of batik tourism packages. The study concludes that collaborative efforts between artisans, communities, and the government are crucial in ensuring the continuity and economic potential of Batik Bakaran through cultural tourism.
