Abstract

The role of coastal communities in the preservation of coral reefs is an important thing to supporting the sustainable management of coastal areas. This article is objected to determine the coastal communities’ role in the management of coral reefs in water conservation areas and the level of knowledge of the coastal communities about the importance of protecting coastal ecosystems. Data were collected by distributing questionnaires, direct interviews and Focus Group Discussions (FGD) and the results were elaborated based on descriptive analysis. The results showed that the community had begun to realize how important it is to protect coral reefs for the sustainability of fisheries and other benefits of coral reefs. Healthy reefs provide many benefits to people including improving the economy of the community and increasing tourists. Community awareness is shown by their participation in activities that lead to the conservation and management of coral reefs such as transplantation of coral reefs, beach cleaning, banner making, tree planting and provision of trash bins along the coast. Those who knew the benefits and functions of coral reefs both for increasing fish populations, increasing tourists and improving the economy of the community, as well as other benefits of coral reefs for the coastal areas, was 74.5%. The role of community in the aspects of coastal and marine ecosystems management was high, as many as 72% of the community participate in every coastal and marine ecosystem management activity carried out by the government and local NGOs.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate of patin seed (Pangasius hypothalamus) that is given Tubifex sp. as additional feed. The experiment design was used  completely randomized design with four treatments and four replications. The treatments studied were 100 % pellet without the addition of Tubifex sp. (A), 95 % pellet with the addition of  Tubifex sp. 5 % (B), 90 % pellet with the addition of  Tubifex sp. 10 % (C) and 85 % pellet with the addition of  Tubifex sp. 15 % (D). Patin seed stocking density was 1 individu/l with the length of  3-4 cm and weight of  0,15-0,28 g. The culture period for one cycle of fish farming was 40 days. The ANOVA test showed commercial feeding with the addition of Tubifex sp. as additional feed gave the significant effect on the specific of growth rate, length and feed conversion ratio, but did not give the significant effect on survival rate of patin seed. The best dose to increase the growth of catfish seeds is 85% commercial feeding with the addition of Tubifex sp. 15%.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the rate of growth, survival, and feed conversion ratio in feed of Cyprinus carpio with Hylocereus polyhizus. This study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of 4 treatments and 4 replications. The treatments in this study include 0% (P0), 5% (P1), 10% (P2), and 15% (P3). The method of feeding uses 5% feeding rate with a frequency of three times a day (morning, afternoon, evening). The research parameters observed included survival, specific growth rate, feed conversion ratio and water quality. Quantitative research results showed the best survival at P3 of 92.5%, the best specific growth rate at P3 treatment was 0.04 g / day, the best feed conversion ratio at P3 was 1.06, while the results of qualitative research on water quality showed temperature, pH, Dissolved Oxygen is in optimal condition according to the water quality of koi fish. The conclusion of the 15% treatment study (P3) is the best dose of Hylocereus polyhizus substitution of Cyprinus carpio with increased survival and specific growth rate, and decreases the rate of feed conversion ratio.  Keywords: Cyprinus carpio, Growth, Hylocereus polyhizus, Production, Survival Rate.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the condition of the coral reef ecosystem including the substrate, genus composition, and the level of coral mortality in the waters of the Malacca Strait, Masjid Raya District, Aceh Besar District. The research was conducted from October 2016 to October 2019 in the waters of the Malacca Strait, Masjid Raya District, Aceh Besar District. The research site is divided into three stations consisting of Lhok Mee Station, Ahmad Rhang Manyang and Benteng Inong Balee Station. Data were collected using the Point Intercept Transect method. The results showed that the condition of coral reefs at Lhok Mee Station was in the damaged category with coral cover ranging from 6.56% - 13.44%. Ahmad Rhang Manyang Station is included in the moderate to good category with coral cover ranging from 38.75% - 67.19%. Meanwhile, Benteng Inong Balee Station is included in the medium category with coral cover ranging from 45.94% - 56.88%. The monitoring results found that 30 coral genera with the highest composition of the coral genera came from the Porites genus, while other coral genera were unevenly distributed. The value of the mortality index for Lhok Mee Station shows a high increase in mortality of live coral to dead coral. Meanwhile, Ahmad Rhang Manyang and Benteng Inong Balee stations have low coral mortality index values.

Abstract

Macrozoobenthos are aquatic organisms that live on the bottom and surface of the waters, and are influenced by bottom substrate and water quality. This study aimed at determining the density of macrozoobenthos in Peunaga Rayeuk Waters, Meureubo District, West Aceh Regency in terms of species composition, diversity, uniformity, and dominance. This research was conducted from May to June 2021 in the waters of Peunaga Rayeuk, Meureubo District, West Aceh Regency. Purposive random sampling was employed to collect the data in four stations. Based on the results of the study, 15 types of macrozoobenthos grouped into 3 classes were found, namely bivalves, gastropods and malokostraca. The macrozoobenthos density values at four stations ranged from 308.52 to 1357.49 ind/m2. The percentage value of macrozoobenthos composition by class showed that bivalves had the lowest percentage, as much as 13%, and the highest percentage was the gastropods, as much as 54%. The diversity index (H) ranged from 1.21 to 3.31 which was classified as medium to high category. The uniformity index (e) ranged from 0.81 to 0.92 and was classified as high category, while the Dominance Index (C) ranged from 0.21 to 0.54 and categorized as low to moderate category. The water quality parameter values was still in normal conditions and support the life of macrozoobenthos

Abstract

This research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of waste prevention efforts that have been carried out by the community in Johan Pahlawan District and Bubon District. Through qualitative and quantitative research methods, data was collected from field surveys, interviews, and statistical analysis regarding waste management practices, community participation, and levels of environmental awareness. The results of the research show that the community in both sub-districts has implemented waste prevention efforts well. An increase in environmental awareness among the community can be seen from active participation in waste management activities, waste separation, and the use of environmentally friendly products. Implementation of policies by local governments also makes a positive contribution in creating a cleaner and more sustainable environment. This research provides a comprehensive picture of waste prevention practices that have been successfully implemented by the community in Johan Pahlawan and Bubon Districts. It is hoped that these findings will provide insight for the government and related institutions to increase the sustainability of waste prevention efforts at the local level and stimulate similar practices in other areas.
