Abstract

Low insurance literacy, especially Sharia insurance, poses a challenge in raising public awareness about the importance of risk protection. This is particularly true for young people who are currently or will be starting businesses. Aims of this community service activity is to increase literacy and awareness of sharia insurance among students at Global Cahaya Nubuwwah Insani (GCNI), an Islamic Entrepreneurship Boarding School in Purwakarta, West Java. This activity was conducted using an extension method that integrated Sharia insurance literacy with entrepreneurship education. The results of the activity showed an increase in students' understanding of the basic concepts of Sharia insurance, the differences between conventional and Sharia insurance, and the compatibility of Sharia insurance with Islamic principles, linked to entrepreneurship. This finding aligns with the concept that value-based financial literacy can shape more responsible and blessed economic and financial attitudes and behaviors. Sharia insurance literacy with a case study approach on Askrida Sharia Insurance has equipped students to better understand business risk management from an early age, so that their businesses are not solely profit-oriented, but sustainable for the common good. This activity proves that insurance literacy integrated with the values of the Quran and Hadith is effective in raising awareness about insurance from an early age.

Abstract

Indonesia’s Islamic banking industry is undergoing structural transformation driven by regulatory support, digitalization, and the expansion of the halal ecosystem. The dominance of Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) as an incumbent and the prospective establishment of Bank Syariah Nasional (BSN) reshape the competitive landscape, creating dynamics beyond direct rivalry toward co-opetition. This study examines competition and collaboration between BSI and BSN and identifies implications for inclusion. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, the research combines literature review, policy analysis, and comparative case studies. The analysis draws on co-opetition theory, the Resource-Based View, Dynamic Capabilities, the Structure–Conduct–Performance framework, and platform ecosystem theory. The findings show that BSI’s strengths lie in operational scale, synergies, and digital maturity, while BSN offers differentiation through a digital-native model and niche community focus. Collaboration via open finance, shared services, and ecosystem partnerships can expand market reach without cannibalization, provided regulatory harmonization, digital readiness, and effective risk management.

Abstract

This research was conducted to analyze muzakki's determination in paying professional zakat through the National Zakat Amil Agency (BAZNAS). The variables used refer to the Theory of Planned Behavior including Subjective Norm, Perceived Behavioral Control and Attitude then added with external variables namely Digitalization of Zakat which is one of the strategies to increase zakat receipts from BAZNAS and Religiosity where the Attitude variable is a mediating variable. The case study was conducted on professional zakat payments in DKI Jakarta Province. The study was conducted on employees from various institutions in the DKI Jakarta area using purposive sampling and obtained a total of 151 respondents. The data analysis technique uses the SEM-PLS method which aims to see the relationship between variables. Based on the results of the analysis using the SEM-PLS method, the first result was that digitalization of zakat and religiosity had a significant and positive effect on muzakki's intention to pay zakat income, while subjective norms and perceived behavioral control had no effect. Second, subjective norms, digitalization of zakat, and religiosity have a significant and positive effect on attitude, while perceived behavioral control has no effect. Third, attitude mediates the influence of subjective norms, digitalization of zakat, and religiosity on muzakki's intention to pay zakat on income, while regarding perceived behavioral control, attitude does not play a mediating role. This shows that attitude is one of the most important factors for individuals in paying zakat through BAZNAS.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of Contribution Income, Claim Expenses, and Operating Expenses on Islamic Insurance Profit, with Underwriting Surplus as a mediating variable. This research is motivated by the importance of financial performance and risk management in improving the profitability of Islamic insurance companies. Therefore, this study is conducted to examine both the direct and indirect effects among variables and to assess the role of underwriting surplus in shaping Islamic insurance profits. The research method employed is a quantitative approach using Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS) analysis with the SmartPLS 4 application. The data used are secondary data obtained from the annual financial statements of Islamic insurance companies in Indonesia during the research period. The research variables include Contribution Income, Claim Expenses, and Operating Expenses as independent variables, Islamic Insurance Profit as the dependent variable, and Underwriting Surplus as the mediating variable. Model testing is carried out through the evaluation of path coefficients and R-square values to assess the simultaneous contribution of the variables. The results indicate that Contribution Income and Operating Expenses do not have a significant effect on Underwriting Surplus, while Claim Expenses have a positive and significant effect on Underwriting Surplus. Furthermore, with respect to Islamic Insurance Profit, Contribution Income and Claim Expenses have a positive and significant effect, whereas Operating Expenses and Underwriting Surplus do not have a significant effect. In addition, the mediation test results show that Underwriting Surplus does not play a significant mediating role in the relationship between Contribution Income, Claim Expenses, and Operating Expenses on Islamic Insurance Profit. These findings suggest that the profits of Islamic insurance companies are more directly influenced by contribution income and effective claim management.

Abstract

This study aims to determine carbon emissions in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations-6 (ASEAN-6) in achieving Sustainable Development Goals using the Kuznet environmental curve analysis approach. Used panel data regression method with carbon emissions as a dependent variable and Gross Domestic Product per capita, Squared Gross Domestic Product per capita, population, energy consumption and Sustainable Development Goals as independent variables. Used panel data from 2009-2018, samples taken from Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines and Vietnam. Results are the suitable random effect model, with per capita Gross Domestic Product and energy consumption having a positive and significant effect on carbon emissions. In contrast, the squared Gross Domestic Product Per capita, population and Sustainable Development Goals have a negative and significant impact on carbon emissions. The Environmental Kuznet curve hypothesis has been proven in this area, although only Singapore has reached a turning point, so  ASEAN-6 will still experience in carbon emissions increase. For this reason, ASEAN-6 needs to implement sustainable development policies, family planning, environmentally friendly energy development, and coordination and seriousness in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the determinants of aggregate assets in Islamic insurance companies in Indonesia by analyzing the effects of contribution income, investment returns, and cost efficiency, as well as evaluating the mediating role of earning after tax. The study employs a quantitative approach using panel data and applies the Fixed Effect Model (FEM) along with mediation analysis. The empirical results indicate that contribution income and cost efficiency have a positive and significant effect on aggregate assets, while investment returns and earning after tax do not have a direct significant effect. The mediation analysis reveals that earning after tax only mediates the relationship between cost efficiency and aggregate assets, but does not mediate the effects of contribution income or investment returns on aggregate assets. These findings suggest that asset growth in Islamic insurance companies is primarily volume-driven and efficiency-driven rather than profit-retention driven, as commonly assumed in conventional firm growth theory. Theoretically, this study contributes to the Islamic finance literature by proposing a more contextual aggregate asset model that reflects the structural characteristics of the Islamic insurance industry. Practically, the results emphasize the importance of strengthening contribution growth and operational efficiency strategies to support sustainable asset expansion in Indonesia’s Islamic insurance sector

Abstract

At this era, global economic development is shifting toward sustainable development. This phenomenon demands a financial system capable of managing long-term environmental risks to support the green and blue economic transformation. This research aims to conceptually examine the role of digital Islamic insurance as a strategic instrument in the sustainable Islamic economic and financial system. Conceptual qualitative is the method of this research, through a review and synthesis of literature on Islamic insurance, digital technology, green economy, blue economy, and maqasid al-shariah. The results show that digital sharia insurance is not only a technological innovation in the sharia insurance industry, but also functions as a sustainable risk mitigation infrastructure. Through risk-sharing mechanisms, increased Islamic financial inclusion, and adaptive protection against environmental and marine risks, in this case digital sharia insurance also supports green investment, strengthens the marine-based economy, and increases the resilience of vulnerable communities. The integration of digital technology and sharia principles further underscores the potential of digital Sharia insurance as an important pillar in a fair, inclusive, and long-term welfare-oriented Islamic financial system.
