Abstract

This study investigates the use of idiomatic expressions in George R. R. Martin’s Fire and Blood, focusing specifically on Chapters 1 and 2, by identifying and classifying idioms based on Chitra Fernando’s (1996) theory of idiomaticity. The research aims to determine the types and frequency of pure idioms and semi-literal idioms used in the narrative, and to explore their contextual meanings and narrative functions. Employing a mixed-methods approach, the researcher extracted idioms through manual reading and digital tools, then categorized and analyzed them qualitatively. The findings reveal a total of 44 idiomatic expressions, with semi-literal idioms comprising the majority (79.55%) and pure idioms accounting for 20.45%. The dominance of semi-literal idioms suggests a stylistic preference in Martin’s writing for expressions that balance figurative richness with interpretative accessibility. This study affirms the applicability of Fernando’s theory to literary texts, particularly in the fantasy genre, where idioms play a key role in world-building, character development, and thematic resonance. The results contribute to a broader understanding of idiomatic usage in literature and offer practical insights for learners, educators, and future researchers interested in figurative language analysis.

Abstract

In today’s rapidly changing world, characterized by technological disruption and socio-political complexity, traditional leadership models often prove insufficient. Adaptive leadership provides a flexible approach that enables people to address adaptive challenges through learning, resilience, and systemic change. Despite growing scholarly interest, research on adaptive leadership remains fragmented and lacks strong empirical support. Systematic Literature Review (SLR) and bibliometric analysis of 126 peer-reviewed articles published between 2010 and May 2025 from the Scopus database were employed to address these gaps. Findings reveal a significant rise in publications after 2020, largely influenced by the Covid-19 pandemic and accelerated organizational transformation. Using VOSviewer, the bibliometric analysis identifies influential authors such as R.A. Anderson and D.E. Bailey, leading institutions including Duke University and the University of North Carolina, and prominent publication outlets like California Management Review. Thematic mapping shows a shift from crisis leadership and healthcare to digital agility, emotional intelligence, and psychosocial resilience. This study strengthens the theoretical foundation of adaptive leadership by synthesizing its core competencies, including system diagnosis, distress regulation, and inclusive problem-solving, and demonstrates its practical relevance across sectors. In doing so, it supports global development goals, including SDGs 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDGs 4 (Quality Education), SDGs 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDGs 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and SDGs 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), positioning adaptive leadership as a key driver of sustainable organizational and societal transformation.

Abstract

This community service activity is motivated by the limited understanding among Bale Village residents of the importance of sanitation around clean water sources, which can increase the risk of environment-based infectious diseases. The main goal of this activity is to improve the community's knowledge and skills in managing clean water and maintaining sanitation facilities independently. The implementation method used is participatory face-to-face training, consisting of material presentation, field demonstrations, and interactive discussions, which are then evaluated using pre-test and post-test instruments. The results show strong community enthusiasm; of 18 participants, 13 fully participated in the evaluation. Analysis results indicate a significant achievement: 92.30% (12 people) increased their knowledge scores on the criteria for clean water and sources of pollution, while the remaining 7.70% maintained their previous knowledge. In conclusion, education- and demonstration-based training is effective in enhancing the community's cognitive capacity. This success is expected to encourage the formation of independent clean water management groups to maintain environmental sanitation quality in the area

Abstract

Background: Children's habits in elementary school for snacks are often not supported by a proper understanding of healthy food choices, so they prefer to choose foods that contain a lot of sugar, salt, and fat. The lack of interesting and appropriate nutritional information for children makes their knowledge about healthy snacks still very minimal. To overcome this problem, the edutainment method that combines education and entertainment can be an effective solution. With fun ways like games or interactive stories, children can more easily understand the importance of choosing healthy snacks. Objective: This study aims to determine the influence of edutainment on the knowledge of elementary school children about the selection of healthy snacks in SD Muhammadiyah 1 Palu. Methods: This study used a Pre-Experiment type of research with One Group Pretest Posttest Design. This research was carried out on May 17-June 03, 2024 at SD Muhammadiyah 1 Palu in the working area of the Kamonji Health Center. The population of this study is all 3rd grade students totaling 20 people. The sampling method uses total sampling. The questionnaire contains 10 statements and the scale used is Guttman's. The edutainment method is in the form of an animated video that is inserted into the game. An animated video containing a collection of images or cartoons with a duration of 4 minutes 36 seconds is given once about the selection of healthy snacks including the definition of snacks, functions, sources, impacts, and criteria for choosing healthy snacks. The analysis of this study uses the Wilcoxon test. Results: The results of the univariate analysis pretest student knowledge were good at 5.0%, fair 15.0%, and less than 80.0%. After the edutainment method was carried out, the students' knowledge increased to either 60.0% and 40.0% adequate. Edutainment method intervention was given with the results of the posttest of good knowledge 60% and 40.0%. The Wilcoxon test was negative rank 0, positive rank 20 and ties 0 p-value was 0.001<0.05. Conclusion: The edutainment method has an effect on increasing knowledge about the selection of healthy snacks in students at SD Muhammadiyah 1 Palu. It is hoped that homeroom teachers can motivate students to further improve the habit of choosing healthy snacks with more interesting learning methods such as Edutainment, which is learning that is inserted with games to make the learning process more fun.
