Abstract

Background: Hemodialysis is vital for patients with end-stage renal disease, and adherence to fluid restrictions is crucial for preventing complications and improving quality of life. However, many patients struggle with fluid intake control due to limited understanding. Objective: This study aimed to assess the impact of visual learning media and guidebooks on fluid intake control, measured by Interdialytic Weight Gain (IDWG), in hemodialysis patients. Methods: A quasi-experimental design involved 26 participants in the intervention group, who received visual media and guidebooks, and 26 controls. IDWG was used to measure fluid restriction compliance. Data were analyzed using t-tests and multiple linear regression. Results: The intervention group showed a significant reduction in IDWG (p < 0.001), indicating improved compliance. Regression analysis found that education level (R² = 0.353, p = 0.008) was a significant predictor of fluid restriction compliance. Conclusion: Visual learning media and guidebooks significantly improve fluid restriction adherence in hemodialysis patients, leading to a reduction in IDWG. These tools are effective for enhancing patient education and improving clinical outcomes.

Abstract

Background: Urinary incontinence (UI) is a common issue following Transurethral Resection of the Prostate (TURP). Pelvic Floor Muscle Training (PFMT), including Kegel and Bridging exercises, is a promising non-pharmacological intervention for managing UI. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of Pelvic Floor Muscle Training, combining Kegel and Bridging exercises, in reducing urinary incontinence among post-TURP patients, and to identify factors associated with UI severity. Methods: A quasi-experimental pre-posttest design was employed involving 44 male patients who had undergone TURP. Participants were allocated into an intervention group (n = 22), which received six sessions of PFMT over three weeks, and a control group (n = 22), which received standard care. UI severity was measured using the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire-Urinary Incontinence Short Form (ICIQ-UI SF) before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using paired t-tests and regression analysis. Results: The intervention group demonstrated a significant reduction in UI scores from 15.50 (SD = 2.50) to 7.41 (SD = 4.12) (p = 0.0001), whereas the control group exhibited only minor improvement. Regression analysis identified age and body mass index (BMI) as significant predictors of UI severity (p = 0.037 and p = 0.041, respectively). Conclusion: Pelvic Floor Muscle Training effectively decreases urinary incontinence severity following TURP surgery. Integrating PFMT into routine postoperative nursing care may enhance patient outcomes and facilitate recovery. Future research should explore long-term adherence and outcomes associated with PFMT in diverse patient populations.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) such as hypertension, diabetes, and dyslipidemia are major public health threats, particularly among postmenopausal women who experience significant hormonal and metabolic changes. Low awareness of early detection and healthy lifestyle practices further increases these risks. This community-based program aimed to improve health literacy and awareness through education, health screening, and individual consultation targeting adults aged ≥45 years, with a focus on postmenopausal women. Of the 50 participants, 80% were women with a mean age of 62 years. Health screening results showed an average systolic blood pressure of 137.76 mmHg (prehypertension), random blood glucose of 145.92 mg/dL (prediabetes), BMI of 26.54 kg/m² (overweight), total cholesterol of 224.22 mg/dL (borderline high), and uric acid of 6.83 mg/dL (above normal for women). Educational and consultation sessions helped participants understand the link between their health indicators and NCD risk, and most expressed motivation to adopt healthier lifestyles. The PEDULI SEHAT program was effective in enhancing participants’ awareness and concern for their health status. The involvement of ‘Aisyiyah, a trusted community-based women’s organization, played a vital role in supporting a participatory and gender-responsive health promotion approach, especially among postmenopausal women. Keywords: Non-Communicable Diseases, Menopause, Health Education, Older Adults

Abstract

Reproductive health education for intellectually disabled female students in special schools remains inadequate due to the lack of tailored teaching modules, teacher training, and curriculum support. This community service program, initiated by nurses from the Department of Maternity and Reproductive Health Nursing at UMJ, aimed to enhance school readiness through three main interventions: provision of menstrual kits, installation of educational posters, and teacher training for 10 special school teachers. The program also targeted 15 intellectually disabled students and representatives of parents and school principals as policymakers. Nurses played a key role in designing instructional media, facilitating interactive workshops, and guiding pre‑post test evaluations. Implemented at SLB B‑C Cempaka Putih Central Jakarta from October 2024 to June 2025, this participatory approach yielded a 35% average increase in teacher knowledge scores, 85% respondent satisfaction, and positive student behavioral changes in recognizing menstrual signs and maintaining hygiene. This success demonstrates the enhanced capacity of nurses and schools to create an inclusive, supportive, and responsive environment for the reproductive needs of intellectually disabled adolescents.

Abstract

Background: The School-Age Children Immunization Month program is an annual national vaccination initiative targeting school-aged children in Indonesia. However, a decline in vaccination coverage has been observed in recent years, influenced by both internal and external factors. Key contributing variables include maternal knowledge, maternal attitudes, cultural beliefs, and the roles of healthcare workers, teachers, and parents. Purpose: To analyze the factors most significantly associated with low vaccination coverage among elementary school children. Method: A quantitative, cross-sectional design was employed. A total of 142 respondents—mothers of elementary school students in grades 1, 2, and 5—were selected using simple random sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire. Statistical analyses included univariate analysis, bivariate analysis using the chi-square test, and multivariate analysis using logistic regression. Results: Five variables met the criteria for inclusion in the multivariate analysis (p < .25): maternal knowledge, maternal attitude, cultural beliefs, the role of healthcare workers, and the role of parents. Logistic regression analysis identified the parental role as the most significant predictor of vaccination coverage (p = .000; OR = 2.234), indicating that children were more than twice as likely to be vaccinated when parental involvement was strong. Conclusion: Parental involvement emerged as the most influential factor affecting vaccination uptake among elementary school children. Strengthening parental support and engagement is crucial to improving vaccination coverage in school-based programs.
