Abstract

This study identifies common contrastive errors in English grammar made by Indonesian EFL learners, along with their causes and solutions. Such errors often arise from structural differences between the learner's first language (L1) and English (L2), potentially leading to misunderstandings. Using a descriptive qualitative research design, data were collected from eleven undergraduate students in the English Education program at Universitas Islam Negeri Sumatera Utara. Data collection methods included grammar tests and surveys to explore the underlying causes of errors. Analysis revealed that common errors included tense usage, subject-verb agreement, article usage, and preposition errors. These mistakes are attributed to language transfer, interlanguage phenomena, and a lack of understanding of English structures. The study recommends teaching strategies such as drilling activities, corrective feedback, context-based learning, and comparative grammar analysis to mitigate these errors. By implementing these approaches, it is hoped that learners will enhance their understanding and application of English grammar more effectively, ultimately improving their communication skills in English.

Abstract

This research examines the process of determining the marriage guardian by the marriage registrar for daughters born from out-of-wedlock pregnancies. Marriage in Islam is a sacred covenant that is clearly regulated, with the guardian being one of the essential pillars that determines the validity of the marriage contract. However, cases of out-of-wedlock pregnancies also referred to as "pregnant marriages" in the Compilation of Islamic Law (KHI) present complex challenges in determining the appropriate marriage guardian for daughters born under such circumstances. Article 99 of the KHI defines a legitimate child as one born within or as a result of a legal marriage. This study employs a library research method (literature review), gathering data from various sources such as books, academic journals, and legal documents to explore relevant theories. The role of the is crucial in determining the guardian for children born from out-of-wedlock pregnancies, taking into account Islamic law, the KHI, and applicable regulations. Penghulus often encounter sensitive situations in which they must compare the date of the parents' marriage with the child's birth date to establish the child's legal lineage. Although different KUA offices may adopt varying approaches ranging from appointing a court-assigned guardian to recognizing the biological father as the lineage guardian based on their interpretation of the KHI all penghulus share a common mission: to uphold maqashid as-syari’ah (the objectives of Islamic law) and to protect the rights and lineage of the child. This careful process in determining the guardian also aims to safeguard the psychological well-being of the prospective bride.

Abstract

Background: Hypertension is frequently associated with psychological disorders, particularly anxiety, which may worsen physiological responses and lead to decreased quality of life. Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR) is a non-pharmacological intervention proven to reduce anxiety and enhance psychological and physiological stability among clients with chronic diseases. Objective: This case study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of PMR therapy in reducing anxiety levels in a hypertensive client. Methods: A single-case study design using a nursing care approach was implemented on a client diagnosed with stage 2 hypertension and moderate anxiety based on the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS). PMR therapy was performed once daily for five consecutive days, supported by assessments through interviews, observation, vital sign monitoring, and HARS evaluation. Results: The client demonstrated a decrease in anxiety level from moderate (HARS score: 17) to mild (HARS score: 13) after five therapy sessions. Additional improvements were noted in sleep duration, perceived relaxation, and blood pressure stability. The client became able to independently perform PMR beginning on day three. Conclusion: Progressive Muscle Relaxation therapy demonstrated a positive impact on reducing anxiety among hypertensive clients when practiced consistently and systematically. PMR may be recommended as a complementary nursing intervention in community settings to improve psychological well-being and prevent hypertension-related complications. Further studies using larger sample sizes are recommended to strengthen generalizability.

Abstract

Islamic schools play a strategic role in shaping students’ political and civic awareness amid the increasingly complex socio-political dynamics of Indonesian society. This article aims to systematically examine the role of Islamic schools in cultivating students’ political awareness and civic identity based on findings from previous studies. The method employed is a literature review, analyzing various scholarly sources, including books, journal articles, and policy documents related to Islamic education, civic education, and political education. The findings indicate that Islamic schools contribute significantly through the integration of the national curriculum with Islamic values, particularly within Civic and Pancasila Education, Islamic Religious Education, as well as extracurricular activities and school culture. Islamic values such as justice (al-‘adl), trust (amanah), deliberation (shura), responsibility, tolerance, and social concern serve as ethical foundations in shaping students’ moderate and democratic political attitudes. Moreover, teachers’ roles as role models, participatory school environments, and students’ involvement in school organizations further strengthen the formation of civic awareness. Nevertheless, the review also identifies several challenges, including limited teacher competence, insufficient curriculum integration, and the influence of globalization. Therefore, strengthening political education grounded in Islamic values is essential to developing a generation of Muslims with strong character, political awareness, and responsibility within democratic life.
