Abstract

ABSTRACTTitle: Comparative Analysis of Environmental Factors Related to the Prevalence of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) In Sporadic and Endemic AreasBackground: Sumbawa Regency continues to struggle with a serious public health problem caused by Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF). Due to increased mobility and population density, both the number of victims and the geographic range of their spread have continued to increase. This study aims to determine differences in environmental risk factors for DHF in endemic and sporadic areas of Sumbawa Regenc. Methods: The study employed a quantitative strategy based on an analytical survey design with a backwards approach. Eighty households in the Moyo Hilir and Sumbawa Districts of the Sumbawa Regency were included in the study because they had either experienced or were at risk for DHF. Specifically, this study's data were analyzed using a univariate approach, which aimed to describe the properties of each independent variable. Bivariate analysis (chi-square) to describe environmental relationships (physical, chemical, social, and health services), with the incidence of DHF serving as the dependent variable; frequency distribution tables of the variables; and DHF itself serving as the independent variable. The Mann–Whitney test was utilized to compare the areas in question. Results: Based on the results of the chi square test, it is known that the environmental factors that influence the incidence of DHF are health care support, knowledge about DHF and environmental conditions (sig. < 0.05). The results of the Mann Whitney test for sporadic areas, factors related to the incidence of DHF are support for health services, knowledge about DHF and environmental conditions (sig. < 0.05), while for endemic areas are support for health services, knowledge about DHF, social aspects of DHF. and PHBS and environmental conditions (significance value < 0.05).Conclusion: differences in environmental factors that influence the incidence of DHF in endemic and sporadic areas in Sumbawa Regency.

Abstract

Diarrheal disease in young children (toddlers) seems increasingly common in tropical countries, especially in dirty and dense urban areas. Diarrhea can last several days and cause the body to lose the fluids needed for survival. This study aimed to determine the sanitation factors that influence the incidence of diarrhea. Methods: This study used a case-control design involving 100 respondents. All respondents were divided into two groups: the case class (toddlers who had diarrhea) and the control class (toddlers who did not experience diarrhea). Results and Discussion: This showed that four sub-variables of sanitation (waste, drainage conditions, domestic wastewater management, and water source safety) had a significant relationship with the incidence of diarrhea (p-value 0.05). Domestic wastewater was the most influencing factor and securing clean water and drinking water sources, with a Nagelkerke R Square value of 0.952. There was an indication that the independent variable (sanitation) affected the dependent variable (diarrhea incidence) by 95.2%. Conclusion: The sub-variable of domestic wastewater management and the sub-variable of the safety of clean water and drinking water sources were the most affecting the incidence of diarrhea. The clean water source factor was 12 times riskier. It means children who did not get it will have 12 times the risk of getting diarrhea. Meanwhile, in the aspect of domestic wastewater management, children who did not meet the requirements for domestic wastewater have a risk of 8.13 times the incidence of diarrhea.
