Abstract

Background: The living environment influences increasing the volume of breast milk in addition to family income and mother's knowledge. The problem in this study is the lack of volume of breast milk in breastfeeding mothers so it has a negative impact on the coverage of exclusive breastfeeding. The purpose of this study was to analyze the implementation of socialization of banana heart extract and papaya leaves on breastfeeding mothers as an effort to provide exclusive breastfeeding. This research method is an observational cross-sectional and pre-experimental design in the form of a one-group pre-post test design conducted in December 2021 in Aceh Barat with a sample of 45 mothers who have babies. The results of the study were based on before the implementation of the socialization test was carried out, the score was 17.8% for breastfeeding mothers, but after the implementation of the socialization test, the score was 48.9% for breastfeeding mothers. Where the mean value is 6.91 and the SD value is 1.345, while the P-value is 0.000 <α 0.05. Conclusion The changes that occurred to breastfeeding mothers were initially only 17.8%, but after socialization, it increased to 48.9% of mothers who breastfeed. If mothers regularly consume this extract from the beginning of pregnancy to breastfeeding, it is possible that all breastfeeding mothers will have their baby's needs met, so that the coverage of exclusive breastfeeding will be even better. Suggestions make it a habit for mothers to always breastfeed by regularly consuming foods that are high in nutritional value, such as extracts of Banana Heart and Papaya leaves which are easily available in the environment around the place of residence, from the beginning of pregnancy to the end of breastfeeding.

Abstract

Stunting is a nutritional problem in Indonesia that is a cross-sectoral problem due to its complex and multifactor causal factors. The government has a role of involvement and capacity in stunting reduction interventions. One of the determinants of stunting in Aceh Singkil District is open defecation which is an indicator of WASH (Water, Sanitation, Hygiene) that contributes to the incidence of inflammatory diseases. This study aims to analyze the determinant of open defecation with stunting incidence in Aceh Singkil District. This study used a qualitative design with Focus Group Discussion data collection techniques for the regional working unit in Aceh Singkil District. The results showed that open defecation is still one of the causes of stunting in Aceh Singkil District where open defecation behavior still exists, such as digging landfills, flying toilets, and public bathing, washing, and toilet facilities in rivers. The problems related to this are the low level of proper drinking water facilities, the behavior of open defecation, and the lack of clean water sources. The conclusion is that there is a need for support from policymakers in improving specific interventions carried out by cross-sectors, especially the rules on Gampoeng for residents who are still doing defecation.

Abstract

Living around the gold mining area, at risk of exposure to mercury (Hg). Pregnant women exposed to Hg alkyl can cause fetal brain damage so that the baby is born with d  efects. This is due to the target toxicity of Hg, especially the organic metal compounds are the nervous system. Based on a child development screening questionnaire, ±100 children were questioned about their development, motor development, language and social interaction. This research was to see a picture of the development of children living around the Gold Mining village of Kalirejo, Kokap district, Kulon Progo District, Yogyakarta.  The Longitudinal Observational Research Method with serial measurement measured the level of child development in five domains: cognitive, linguistic, motor, social, emotional and behavioral (adaptive behavior) with the Bayley Scale of Infant and Toddler Development Third Edition (BSID III) against 16 infants in the age range of 2-14 weeks (stage I) and 14-26 weeks. (tahap II). The baby's development observations resulted in an average composite development score of 85. Stage I obtained composite scores of cognitive domain; 102.81, language; 107.38, motor: 98.94, social emotional: 100,63 and behavioral: 90.00, while Stage II of each domain had the same scores as 105.94 : cognitive, 105.38: language, 104.81: motor, social-emotional: 98,69 and behavioural: 92.44. The conclusion that the composite child development score was in the average range of 90 - 109 for all domains, means that the child development composite score was still within the normal range (85-115), indicating that there is no developmental impediment. It is recommended to reduce Hg exposure, provide optimal nutrition to the baby and enhance developmental interventions with stimulation to stimulate auditorium, visual, tactile and kinesthetic, thereby improving the quantity and quality of brain cell synapses, to optimize brain function.
