Abstract

Stunting is a medical condition characterized by height significantly below the standard -2 SD z-score, adversely affecting children's physical growth and cognitive development. This study aims to analyze the correlation between basic immunization records, infectious disease history, and stunting prevalence in Cot Seumeureung Puskesmas, Aceh Barat. A quantitative cross-sectional method was employed, utilizing Chi-Square analysis (p-value < 0.05 indicating significance). Findings revealed a significant association between lack of immunization and previous infections, such as diarrhea (p=0.004, RP=1.63), with the incidence of stunting. These results underscore the crucial role of immunization and regular health monitoring as preventive measures. Furthermore, the study highlights the need for strengthened public health strategies to reduce stunting rates, emphasizing comprehensive immunization coverage and early intervention for infectious diseases. Future research could explore additional factors, including maternal nutrition and environmental conditions, contributing to stunting.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of maternal education and knowledge on early complementary feeding (MP-ASI) in children aged 6-12 months at the Cot Seumeureng Health Center, Samatiga District, West Aceh Regency. Early complementary feeding, initiated before six months, can hinder optimal exclusive breastfeeding practices. This cross-sectional study involved 94 mothers of infants aged six to twelve months, with data collected through questionnaires and analyzed using the Chi Square test. Results indicate a statistically significant relationship between maternal education and early complementary feeding (p=0.001, PR=2.1), as well as between maternal knowledge and early complementary feeding (p=0.002, PR=1.8). These findings underscore the role of maternal education and knowledge in shaping early feeding practices, highlighting the importance of tailored health education programs to promote exclusive breastfeeding. The study concludes that enhanced maternal knowledge through education is crucial for improving infant feeding practices.

Abstract

Unhealthy eating behaviors represent a significant issue among university students, particularly those experiencing academic and psychological pressures. These conditions can lead to stress and anxiety, which may escalate into depression. Furthermore, the adverse effects of unhealthy eating behaviors driven by depression can severely impact students' health, often resulting in neglect of nutritional intake. This negligence contributes to nutritional problems such as malnutrition, overnutrition, and the onset of chronic diseases. This study aims to examine the relationship between depression and eating behaviors among final-year students at the Faculty of Public Health, Universitas Teuku Umar. Utilizing a quantitative cross-sectional approach, the study involved a population of 223 final-year students, with a sample size of 70 selected in 2023/2024. Conducted in June 2024, the research employed questionnaires for primary data collection. Data analysis was performed using univariate and bivariate analysis with the Chi-Square test. Results revealed a significant association between depression and eating behaviors (p = 0.001, CI 95% = 1.899–15.902). Among the participants, 64.3% exhibited depressive symptoms, and 61.4% demonstrated unhealthy eating behaviors. The analysis indicated that students with depression were 1.94 times more likely to engage in unhealthy eating behaviors. This study concludes that depression significantly increases the risk of unhealthy eating behaviors among final-year students.

Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between birth weight and birth length with the height of children aged 36-48 months at the Pante Ceureumen Health Center, West Aceh Regency. Utilizing a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design, data collection occurred between July 24-31, 2023. The sample included 55 mothers who gave birth at the health center three years prior, selected using a total sampling method. Data were gathered through anthropometric measurements and structured interviews with mothers. Statistical analysis revealed no significant relationship between birth weight and the height of children aged 36-48 months, as indicated by a p-value (p > 0.05). Similarly, no significant correlation was found between birth length and the height of children in this age group. These findings highlight the need for regular participation in integrated health services (posyandu) to monitor children’s growth and development. Health workers are also encouraged to increase community engagement by conducting educational outreach programs on stunting prevention and optimal child nutrition practices.
