Abstract

Bullying in school environments has shown a significant increasing trend, particularly at the secondary education level. Bullying, especially in its verbal form, not only affects students’ psychological well-being but also influences the quality of interpersonal communication and social relationships within schools. This issue requires preventive efforts that are not merely regulatory, but also educational and participatory in nature. This Community Service program aimed to strengthen students’ interpersonal communication skills as a strategy to prevent bullying and to promote a safe and bullying-free school environment. The activity was conducted at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (MAN) 1 Bekasi and involved senior high school students as participants. A participatory-educational approach was employed through interactive lectures, group discussions, and educational games. The results indicate an improvement in students’ understanding of bullying concepts and forms, particularly verbal bullying, which had previously been perceived as harmless joking. Furthermore, students demonstrated increased awareness of the importance of healthy interpersonal communication skills, such as empathy, assertive communication, and active listening, in building positive social relationships. Experiential learning through educational games enabled students to reflect on the emotional impacts of bullying and the significance of adopting respectful communication practices. This community service activity demonstrates that strengthening interpersonal communication skills can serve as an effective strategy for bullying prevention in school settings. Through this program, communication studies contribute practically to fostering positive communication cultures and supporting the creation of a more humane and equitable educational environment.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the perspective of an external Islamic student organization, KOPRI PMII UBJ, on women smoking in the series Gadis Kretek. The study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method, and data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that KOPRI PMII UBJ views women smoking in Gadis Kretek as no longer a taboo, but increasingly normalized due to cultural shifts and changes in societal mindsets, although some older generations still hold negative stigmas. KOPRI believes that women and men have equal rights to express themselves, including in the choice to smoke, and therefore gender-based discrimination is unjustified. They emphasize the importance of respecting individual decisions as long as they do not disturb others, and argue that women who smoke should not be automatically associated with negative character. Through the character Dasiyah in Gadis Kretek, the series portrays women as strong, independent, responsible, and empowered, offering a new perspective that challenges existing stigmas and suggests that negative views toward women smoking are not always relevant in contemporary society.

Abstract

The rise of social media has transformed how individuals represent significant life moments, including marriage. One emerging practice in the digital era is the use of personalized wedding hashtags, which serve not only as tools for digital archiving but also as symbols of identity, image, and social engagement. This transformation reflects a cultural shift in which marriage has evolved from a sacred and private ritual into a public and performative event shared in digital spaces. This study examines the relationship between the intensity of wedding hashtag usage and the shifting meaning of marriage in the social media era among married social media users in Indonesia. Using a quantitative approach, data were collected through an online survey involving 422 respondents who had experience using personalized wedding hashtags. The Pearson correlation test revealed a strong and significant relationship between the two variables (r = 0.656, p < 0.001), with a determination coefficient of 43.1%. These findings indicate that nearly half of the variance in the shifting meaning of marriage can be explained by hashtag usage intensity. Within the framework of Media System Dependency Theory (MSDT), the study concludes that individuals who depend on social media for orientation and social validation are more likely to reinterpret institutional values such as marriage.
