Abstract

The HIV/AIDS epidemic remains a major public health issue, particularly in regions such as West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia, where the number of reported cases continues to rise. To better understand and predict the spread of the disease, mathematical modeling provides a valuable analytical tool. This study employs the SIA (Susceptible-Infected-AIDS) compartmental model to describe the dynamics of HIV/AIDS transmission within the population. The model incorporates a latent phase, distinguishing it from simpler models and making it more suitable for diseases with long incubation periods such as HIV/AIDS. Two numerical methods, that is Euler and the 4th Order Runge–Kutta (RK4), are applied to solve the system of nonlinear differential equations derived from the model. Using official epidemiological data from 2023 in West Nusa Tenggara, the simulation tracks the evolution of the population across the three compartments over a 12-month period. The results indicate a consistent decline in the number of susceptible individuals and an increase in both infected and AIDS-diagnosed individuals. The basic reproduction number, , suggesting that the disease is endemic in the region. Stability analysis further confirms that the disease-free equilibrium is unstable, while the endemic equilibrium is locally asymptotically stable. These findings highlight the urgency of targeted interventions and demonstrate the importance of mathematical models in guiding public health strategies for disease control.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to enhance students’ digital literacy through the introduction of basic coding at SMP Negeri 1 Praya Tengah. Digital literacy is an essential competence in the era of information technology, encompassing not only the ability to operate digital devices but also the capacity to think logically, critically, and creatively in solving problems using technology. This program was implemented by the MBKM MAPS team from the Department of Mathematics, University of Mataram, involving seventh-grade students as participants. The implementation stages included preparation (coordination and planning), execution (introduction to basic coding concepts using the Python language on the Google Colab platform), and evaluation through pre-test and post-test to measure the program’s effectiveness. The results of the paired samples t-test analysis indicated a significant improvement in students’ abilities after participating in the training, with a mean difference value of  and a significance value of . These results demonstrate that the activity successfully improved students’ understanding of programming logic and computational thinking skills. In addition to the statistical improvement, observations showed high enthusiasm among participants in practicing simple coding tasks. Overall, this activity has had a positive impact on enhancing digital literacy and represents an initial step in fostering a technology-based learning culture within the school environment.

Abstract

This study investigates the Atom Bond Connectivity (ABC) index applied to inverse and non-commuting graphs of finite groups. The research focuses on two distinct structures: inverse graphs formed from generalized quaternion groups and non-commuting graphs derived from non-abelian finite groups. By utilizing topological index Theory, particularly the ABC index introduced by Estrada, the study aims to characterize the graph structures based on vertex degrees. The ABC index is determined using known group properties and edge classifications for the inverse graphs of generalized quaternion groups. Similarly, the ABC index of non-commuting graphs is explored by analyzing group centers and the connectivity patterns among non-central elements. The results reveal that the ABC index quantifies group connectivity, enhancing the understanding of structural properties in algebraic graph representations. This analysis contributes to the broader application of graph Theory in abstract algebra and theoretical chemistry.

Abstract

In this paper, a fractional-order predator-prey model with prey refuge and additional food for predator is solved numerically. For that aim, the model is discretized using a piecewise constant arguments. The equilibrium points of the discrete fractional-order model are investigated. Numerical simulations are conducted to see the stability of each equilibrium point. The numerical simulations show that stability of the equilibrium points is dependent on the time step. Keywords: Additional Food, Fractional-Order, Predator-Prey, Prey Refuge.
