Abstract

Background Problems: Teaching Games for Understanding (TGfU) is still a challenge for Physical Education (PE) teachers. Teachers are still weak in applying the concept of TGfU to learning and lacking in improving motor skills, so it requires a study to apply the model of TGfU based on the characteristics of the school, the abilities of the students, and the ease of application by the teacher. Research Objectives: The study aims to test the use of the TGfU model using Kasti games to stimulate elementary school students' motor skills. Methods: The research design uses pre-expression with one-group pretest and posttest designs involving 24 students. The experiment implemented field games modified according to the TGfU's concepts and steps. The experiment conducted five meetings with a duration of 80 minutes each. Data collection was done using the Test of Gross Motor Development-2 (TGMD-2) and analysed using descriptive, quantitative, and different tests. Findings/Results: Based on the results of the statistical analysis, it shows that there has been a significant increase in students’ motor skills stimulated by applying learning with the TGfU model and using the Kasti game. Conclusion: The implementation of the TGfU model with the Kasti game approach can be used as an approach to stimulate students' motor skills. Further studies are needed to enhance the potential of TGfU in encouraging teachers to organise PE teaching according to the implemented curriculum, with the aim of encouraging students to actively participate in sports and learn motor skills.

Abstract

Teachers may find difficulty to design assignments that will increase arousal and keep students’ attention during stages that will encourage them critically to reflect on their actions during physical education activities. Designing assignments that increase arousal and maintain students' attention during physical education activities can be a challenging for teachers, often resulting in a reliance on traditional skills-based approaches. This study aims to address this issue by applying the Teaching Games for Understanding (TGfU) model with a small-sided games (SSG) approach to enhance students' football playing skills. The study used 3 vs 3 invasion games to evaluate playing skills, with a game performance evaluation tool (GPET) used as the playing skill instrument. Decisions regarding coding and execution are made in accordance with the subject of the tactical challenge to be solved, including on- and off-ball attackers. The findings revealed that the experimental group’s decision-making ability when passing was 7.97 and when dribbling was 7.28. The performance results in the experimental group were 7.98 and those in the control group were 7.48. The research made a valuable contribution by demonstrating how using TGfU and SSGs can improve football skills and enhance the quality of teaching in physical education. One limitation is that the research only focused on football playing skills, so the results may not be generalizable to other sports or activities. Future research can investigate the impact of the intervention on other outcomes, such as enjoyment, motivation, and participation in physical activity.

Abstract

Learning continuously evolves, propelled by advancements in science and technology as well as the shifting needs and preferences of students. A critical question arises: Are prospective teachers adequately prepared to adapt to these evolving demands with the necessary competencies? This study addresses this question by investigating the effectiveness of an Integrated Learning Model (ILM) in enhancing key teaching competencies. The research focuses on teaching skills, analytical thinking abilities, academic integrity, and transformational leadership qualities among prospective teachers. The study employs an experimental research design, utilizing a one-group pre-test-post-test methodology to assess the impact of the ILM on 35 students selected through cluster sampling. Data collection instruments included the TPOG for evaluating teaching skills, the ATSI for assessing analytical thinking, the PAAIS-24 for measuring academic integrity, and the GTLS for gauging transformational leadership abilities. The data analysis involved descriptive statistics, paired samples t-tests, and N-gain score analysis. The results indicate a significant positive effect of the ILM on all measured competencies: teaching skills, analytical thinking skills, academic integrity, and transformational leadership. These findings underscore the ILM's potential as a robust framework for developing the competencies necessary for prospective teachers to meet the challenges of modern education. The study suggests that future research should explore the application of ILM in various social contexts, examine its effectiveness in fostering additional relevant competencies, and compare its outcomes with those of other instructional models. Such investigations will contribute to a deeper understanding of ILM's role in preparing teachers for the demands of 21st-century education.

Abstract

The progressive world of education needs to be accelerated by fulfilling the competencies of prospective teachers who are also progressive through a series of performance tasks that are relevant to learning needs in the 21st century. This research used Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation (ADDIE) to innovate an integrated learning model for a micro-teaching course. A needs analysis was conducted on 75 students, two lecturers, and 30 teachers to assess actual performance, confirm desired performance, and identify causes of performance gaps. Researchers then designed performance tasks and validated them by 10 raters, tested them on 337 students to test the outer and inner models, and tested them on 30 students, 28 lecturers, and 49 teachers to test differences. Test content validity using the Aiken-V formula and test inter-rater reliability using ICC. Meanwhile, testing the validity and reliability of the construct uses outer and inner model analysis (CB-SEM), and the difference test uses ANOVA. The content validity results prove that all task performance meets the Aiken parameters (0.75-1.00), the interrater reliability value is 0.573, and the Cronbach alpha value is 0.931. Testing the outer model proves that the loading factor task performance value ranges from 0.709-0.874, the Cronbach alpha value ranges from 0.768-0.880, the composite reliability value ranges from 0.768-0.879, the AVE value ranges from 0.580-0.649, and the discriminant validity value ranges from 0.761-0.806. The inner model test proves that the Chi-Square/df value = 2.254, RMSEA value = 0.061, SRMR value = 0.036, NFI value = 0.910, TLI value = 0.936, and CFI value = 0.948. Meanwhile, the results of the ANOVA test confirm that the Sig value = 0.098, so it can be concluded that there are no significant differences between the three sample groups regarding the model innovation results. Thus, the 25-task performance in the integrated learning model has a significant psychometric function relative to the actual situation, so it becomes one of the references that lecturers can use to improve the competency of prospective teachers in micro-teaching courses (not limited to teaching skills, analytical thinking skills, academic integrity, and transformational leadership). Doi: 10.28991/ESJ-2024-08-06-020 Full Text: PDF

Abstract

In the sports landscape, coaching is undeniably considered important. However, coaching has focused mainly on competition, evaluating success through winning or performance excellence. In the case of Philippine sport, coaching largely remains entrenched in traditional performance-focused methods, where the primary goal of coaches is to enhance competitive outcomes. To date, there has been no research conducted in the Philippines focusing on sports coaching and training program with 3Ps integration. With this, the study aims to explore Filipino coaches' understanding of 3Ps and its incorporation into their coaching practices and training programs. Using the exploratory-descriptive qualitative research, nine Filipino coaches who are as well physical education teachers at higher education institutions in Mindanao, Philippines, participated in several in-depth interviews.  The study revealed six essential themes capturing the insights of Filipino coaches about 3Ps: unfamiliarity of 3Ps concept in coaching and training, lack of coaching practice and training standard, need of intentional teaching of 3Ps through coaching and training, recommendation of 3Ps for coaching development, support from government for coaching education, and 3Ps compliments existing coaching initiatives.  As this research contributes critical insights into the knowledge of Filipino coaches about 3Ps, thus, it is important in formulating conclusions and recommendations aimed at enhancing the sports coaching practice and training program in Philippines.

Abstract

Athlete performance will always be side by side with physical condition because football is included in the complex achievement sport in its game which does not only rely on technical and tactical abilities but must be supported by a fit physical condition, therefore physical condition is a necessity in improving an athlete's performance, it can even be considered a basic need that cannot be postponed or negotiated. Football itself is a team game, where in the game it cannot be played alone and do not let egoism or individual play become a character. The purpose of this study was to determine the comparison of the effect of differences in increasing VO2Max and Teamwork by applying the principles of endurance training such as intervals and pyramids, as well as the principle of combining the two principles called mix. This research was conducted at the Persib U-18 Academy in 2024. The method used in this study was the experimental method with the design in this study, namely Pre Experimental Design with a pattern (pre-test, post-test design), and the sampling technique was carried out using the Random assignment technique. Based on the data, there is an increase in VO2Max with the mix group being superior compared to the interval and pyramid groups in the VO2Max variable, but there is no significant difference between the interval and pyramid groups. While for the Teamwork variable, there is an increase in each group but there is no significant difference between each group.

Abstract

Living the life of the 21st century, one of the essential things that the world of education pays attention to is the development of students' analytical thinking skill activities. Research in various countries found only a few studies on developing analytical thinking instruments for Micro Teaching courses. Reports of several studies are limited to developing analytical thinking instruments for elementary school students. This research aims to construct analytical thinking skill instruments for Micro Teaching courses by adopting a development research model (test design, test trials, and test assembly). Nine items were designed using the concept of analytical thinking skills from Anderson and his colleagues; differentiation, organizing, and attributing, then validated by nine raters and tested on 30 students. Content validity testing (rater assessment) uses the Aiken–V formula, reliability testing uses Cronbach's alpha formula, Inter–Rater Reliability testing from Pearson's Intraclass Correlation Coefficients, construct validity testing uses Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA), as well as analyzing the difficulty and discrimination item. The research results prove that the validity of the content of each item and the reliability test has been fulfilled. While the results of the trial using EFA confirmed the formation of three dominant factors with a loading factor value of ˃0.50, with a reliability coefficient of 0.82. The instrument is appropriate to use because, in addition to fulfilling the parameters of statistical testing, this instrument is also more operational, contextual, and practical to use to measure and assess analytical thinking skills for Micro Teaching courses.
