Abstract

Bocai is a traditional ship which originated from Pasir Bongkal Village, Sungai Lala District, Indragiri Hulu Regency. The type of size of the kid in the sandstone village is very diverse, because the kid is used for several purposes. Distinctive characteristics of the leak can be seen on the front and rear of the blunt, called the threshold, in addition to the characteristics of the hull shape or often referred to as the body of the ship is not fat and wide. In connection with this, research on the use of woody plants as raw material for Bocai vessels in the Sand Bongkal Village, Sungai Lala District, Indragiri Hulu District. The selection of informants was made to shipbuilders and shipowners, using the Purposive Sampling technique. The implementation of this research is divided into several techniques, namely observation and interviews, observations made in this study in the form of data and information consisting of primary and secondary data. The data analysis technique used is the qualitative descriptive analysis method, in the form of woody plant species used by the Sand Bongkal Village community and how to use them. The types of wood that are used in making the ship Bocai Sand Bongkal Village are bungur, cempedak, durian, rengas, red meranti, keruing, and kulim. The technique of making a ship ship first install keel then log, ambang, gading-gading, gading kong, papan, tajuk, pisang-pisang, sente, nage-nage, pulang, dek, pemakalan, gale-gale.

Abstract

Abstract

Mangrove diversity in Indonesia, including in Sonde Village, Rangsang Pesisir District, and Meranti Islands Regency, is one of the country's assets that is very important both ecologically, socially, and economically. This study aims to determine the diversity of mangrove species in the Tuah Sonde Forest Farmer Group Community Forest area. The method used was transect with random start with vegetation data collection conducted from June to July 2022. Data analysis includes quantitative descriptive analysis by calculating the Important Value Index (IVI) and the Shannon-Wiener Diversity Index (H'). The results showed that there were six mangrove species found in Sonde Village, namely Rhizophora apiculata, Ceriops tangal, Bruguiera cylindrica, Xylocarpus granatum, Sonneratia alba, and Avicennia marina. Sonneratia alba species dominated at the tree level with the highest INP of 167.66%, while Rhizophora apiculata dominated at the seedling and sapling levels with INPs of 111.52% and 76.74% respectively. The species diversity index (H') at the seedling and sapling level shows a medium category, while at the tree level is in the low category. Mangrove species diversity in Sonde Village is influenced by environmental factors such as tides and human activities, especially illegal logging which has the potential to reduce the sustainability of mangrove ecosystems in the region.

Abstract

Forests have various benefits, one of which is social and cultural benefits. Sentajo Protected Forest is used as a source of timber that is used for making lanes in pacu jalur cultural activities. This research is expected to contribute to detailing the timber potential of the Sentajo Protected Forest and formulating recommendations for sustainable management, taking into account ecological, social, and cultural interests, especially about the pacu jalur culture. The method used in this study was to inventory Sentajo Protected Forest stands, especially along the Siriah River, and conduct interviews with local communities. The criteria for trees used for making jalur are trees that have a diameter range of 70 - 100 cm, free branch height of 30 - 40 m, and the tree is not deformed. Trees used for jalur creation are selected trees that are classified as emergent tree species and their growth has slowed down. The results showed that the types of wood used for making Jalur taken from the Sentajo Protection Forest include Meranti Batu (Parashorea aptera), Meranti Sabut (Shorea brachteolata), and Balam Merah (Palaquium burckii).

Abstract

Currently, the availability of red meranti, kulim and mersawa wood is commonly used as raw material for “jalur” constructionin Kuansing Regency, Riau Province, are increasingly scarce, while the need is getting higher. Accordingly, it is necessary to choosealternative wood types that have similar strength and durable properties compatible with red meranti, kulim and mersawa wood tomeet specifications for the “jalur” construction. This paper studies the effectiveness of preservative treatment by infusion techniqueand bandage use against dry wood termite. Balam (Macaranga conifera Muell. Agr.) was chosen as alternative wood for makingthe path because currently this wood is abundant but not much used for making pathways. The results of field observations indicatedry-wood termites attacke the path stored on land, so it is necessary to preserve the path so that they are not attacked by wooddestroying organisms, particularly the dry-wood termites. Preservation treatments on standing trees using complex boron compoundsby infusion and bandage techniques were examined to increase the durability class of balam wood. Testing of dry-wood termiteattack was carried out according to the SNI 7207-2014 method. The data were processed using a completely randomized factorialdesign. The analysis results showed that the preservation by infusion and bandage techniques was significantly different in terms ofweight reduction and mortality of termites. Observation on the degree of attack visually on the control and infusion technique was40 (hold) lower than the bandage technique 70 (moderate). The highest mortality in infusion technique was 90.67% compared tocontrol 86.08%, and the bandage was 61.75%. Preservation using the infusion technique showed a higher boron content comparedwith the bandage technique.

Abstract

Swietenia mahagoni can grow on marginal land and is suitable for use as a revegetation plant. Peat is classified as marginal soil due to its high organic acid content and low levels of macronutrients. One approach to improving the productivity of peat soil is the application of ameliorants, one of which is oil palm boiler ash. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of mixing peat with oil palm boiler ash and to determine the optimal composition of this mixture for the growth of mahogany seedlings. A completely randomized design (CRD) was employed, consisting of five treatments with four replications, resulting in a total of 20 experimental units. The planting media compositions tested were: P0 = 100% peat soil (control), P1 = 10% boiler ash + 90% peat soil, P2 = 15% boiler ash + 85% peat soil, P3 = 20% oil palm boiler ash + 80% peat soil, and P4 = 25% oil palm boiler ash + 75% peat soil. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 26.0. The application of oil palm boiler ash had a significant effect on the growth of mahogany seedlings. The optimal composition was 15% boiler ash and 85% peat, which resulted in an average seedling height increase of 10.01 cm and an average dry weight of 6.61 g.
