The implementation of Field Work Practice 2 (PKL) is an integral part of the Social Welfare Science curriculum, serving as a mandatory step in preparing students to become social workers. The Interactive Learning Method is an approach in the teaching process that actively involves children throughout the learning process. Interactive learning for children, particularly in orphanages, can be implemented by considering their unique characteristics and needs. Interactive learning not only focuses on academic improvement but also on the development of social skills, creativity, and problem-solving abilities. In the interactive learning activities at Sendoro Orphanage, the stages used are the General Method: Engagement, Intake & Contract, Assessment, Planning, Intervention, Evaluation, and Termination. Several interactive activities conducted to support learning in the orphanage include skill workshops, interactive storytelling, educational games, simple experiments, collaborative art activities, interactive quizzes, group sports, small performances, and group discussions. The final outcome of the interactive learning program in the orphanage has been positive, enhancing children's engagement, learning abilities, and strengthening their social skills. In this context, evaluating the academic progress and personal development of the children is essential to measure the effectiveness of the program.

Abstract

The decline in the reading culture has become the main cause, and even the learning culture in schools is gradually disappearing. Although the percentage of school children has increased with the government's compulsory education program, this does not automatically improve the quality of education. Even though children go to school every day, they never really learn, especially due to the low reading culture. School seems to have become a daily routine. Schools play a crucial role in instilling a culture of reading and writing (literacy) in students. Therefore, every school must fully support the cultivation of a reading and writing (literacy) culture. Literacy culture itself is related to fostering reading and writing interest in elementary school children. In fostering an interest in reading and writing, literacy culture is the key to realizing that interest. Consequently, fostering an interest in reading and writing requires several roles, such as facilities and infrastructure in schools, the community, and parents. If these roles are inadequate, it will have a detrimental impact on the sustainability of a good literacy culture.

Abstract

Learning interest is a crucial factor in children's educational development. This study aims to provide education on the importance of learning interest to children at the Yayasan Pembangun Didikan Islam Indonesia (Indonesian Islamic Education Development Foundation). Learning interest can be defined as a high inclination and enthusiasm or a strong desire towards something one wishes to learn. With learning interest, children tend to be more focused and enthusiastic in engaging with the learning process. This educational activity was conducted at the Yayasan Pembangun Didikan Islam Indonesia, located at Jl. Jamin Ginting No. 271, Padang Bulan, Kec. Medan Baru, Medan City, North Sumatra 20157. Through various interactive and enjoyable methods, the research team endeavored to instill in children an understanding of the benefits and importance of having a high learning interest. In this activity, children were encouraged to understand that learning is not merely an obligation, but can also be an enjoyable and beneficial activity for their personal development. Various educational activities were designed to help children discover areas that interest them, thereby naturally increasing their learning motivation. The results of this educational activity are expected to increase children's awareness of the importance of learning interest, which in turn will positively impact their academic achievement and personal potential development. Additionally, this activity aims to provide caregivers and educators at the foundation with an understanding of effective ways to cultivate and maintain children's learning interest. Through this education, it is hoped that children at the Yayasan Pembangun Didikan Islam Indonesia can develop a strong learning interest, which will serve as an important foundation for their educational success and future.

Abstract

Social interaction is an important aspect in the development of every individual, including children with special needs. For children with special needs, social interaction requires understanding, patience and a sensitive approach. Special education experts and psychologists emphasize the importance of social interaction for children with special needs to develop social skills, empathy, and healthy relationships with others. This Field Work Practice (PKL) activity was carried out by Social Welfare Students of FISIP USU at Terang Sukacita Abadi Orphanage, Medan City. For approximately 3 months, students carry out Project Based Learning (PBL) which aims to raise the spirit of social interaction of children with special needs. Through social work methods, students attempt to change or restore the social functioning of clients, in this case children with special needs. The main focus of this activity is to create a supportive environment where children with special needs can interact with peers and get support from adults who understand their needs. By encouraging social interaction, it is hoped that children with special needs can improve their ability to communicate, build relationships, and develop social skills that are important for their overall development.
