Abstract

This teaching campus activity is a form of implementation of the Independent Learning Teaching Campus (MBKM) program with USU partners. This program is based on the decline in student interest in learning, the level of student learning comprehension, and students' reading and mathematics skills. Another old problem, intense interaction, may also be the reason why bullying occurs in schools . Through Field Work Practice (PKL 1), I brought the topic of mini project to elementary school students, namely Improving Numeracy Literacy Skills of Elementary School Children and Overcoming Bullying. Which is where students' learning ability will be very influential from the state of the school environment. Bullying culture in the name of seniority still occurs among elementary school students, bullying is mostly repeated, some are even planned. Character education is a way or means to overcome these problems. This work program has been carried out using the group work method consisting of the stages of Assessment, Planing / Planning, Intervention, Evaluation, and finally Termination. The Teaching Campus focus also helps make learning methods fun, such as simple and fast kabataku operations (multiplication, division, addition, subtraction), use of interactive learning environments and identification of students' math learning abilities. The end result of this program can be seen through the reduction in the number of students who commit bullying acts at school and the increase in interest in learning, reading and numeracy students at school.

Abstract

The loss of a reading culture is the most important cause, even a learning culture in schools is starting to disappear little by little, indeed the percentage of school children has increased with the government's compulsory education program but this does not necessarily improve the quality of education because even though every day the children go to school they have never studied, especially a low reading culture. School seems to be just a daily routine. Schools have a very important role in instilling a culture of reading and writing (literacy) in students. Therefore, each school must provide full support for the cultivation of a culture of reading and writing (literacy) in schools. Literacy culture itself has a relationship in fostering an interest in reading and writing in elementary school children. In cultivating an interest in reading and writing, a literacy culture is the most important key in realizing this interest. As a result, to foster an interest in reading and writing, several roles must be needed, such as infrastructure in schools, the community and parents. If the role is inadequate, it will have a negative impact on the continuation of a good literacy culture

Abstract

Teaching Campus is a learning channel that provides opportunities for students to study off- campus for one semester to practice their ability to solve complex problems by becoming partners with teachers to innovate in learning, develop strategies and learning models that are creative, innovative and fun. Campus Policy Merdeka Learning aims to encourage students to master various fields of knowledge with their areas of expertise, so that they are ready to compete in the global world. Social Emotional Learning is closely related to the philosophy of thought 'Ki Hajar Dewantara' which states that the purpose of education is to guide all the strengths or natures that exist in children so that they can achieve the highest possible safety and happiness, and here I and we or the teacher's role is a driving force as an example of character education for students, creating an educational ecosystem, and organizing a learning environment that is full of comfort, safety and fun. That way positive emotions and moods will be created in children, and we can know them.

Field Work Practice (Internship) Activities paired with MBKM (Campus Teaching Collaboration with USU Batch 2) which is carried out for approximately 4 months, with this activity taking place at UPT State Elementary School 067775 Medan Johor, led by Mrs. Darmiati S.Pd as the head of UPT. Campus Teaching is a program that provides an opportunity for students to learn outside the classroom for one semester by becoming teacher partners to innovate in the development of creative and innovative teaching strategies and models in the target educational unit, with a focus on improving the literacy and numeracy skills of students in schools. Literacy and numeracy are general and fundamental competencies. I was entrusted to teach in grades 5 and 6, where their interest in reading is limited. I created creative learning methods by promoting literacy through electronic media. What I did to support students with limited interest in learning was: Emotional engagement, Creating a comfortable and safe learning environment, Encouraging children to learn while playing. In conducting the learning process, I used electronic media (smartphones) to watch YouTube videos, TikTok learning videos, etc., Giving attention to the children, Providing learning motivation. Literacy is broadly defined as linguistic skills such as listening, speaking, reading, and writing, as well as the cognitive abilities that are components of it.

In its execution, I was responsible for classes 1 to 6, with a focus on literacy in reading for classes 1-3 and literacy in writing for classes 4-6. I adopted creative learning methods, including using electronic media to promote a culture of literacy. To assist students with limited learning interest, I applied an emotional approach, created a comfortable learning environment, integrated learning with play, and used music and poetry as engaging learning approaches. Abstract

The Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program is an initiative developed by the partner institution of the University of North Sumatra (USU) to enhance the effectiveness of the elementary school (SD) learning process. In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, where many schools are facing challenges in conducting effective teaching and learning processes, MBKM serves as an important solution. This program is focused on individual attention to students in developing their thinking skills, helping them explore their potential and personal interests, and overcoming the challenge of quick thinking. Currently, many elementary school students may struggle to develop quick thinking abilities and identify their interests and talents. This is due to their limited ability to work efficiently within a restricted timeframe. MBKM aims to bridge this gap, with the hope that the program will assist students in honing their mental efficiency, which, in turn, will provide significant benefits in meeting future demands. The MBKM program is expected to provide a solid foundation for student development, not only in learning but also in the discovery of personal interests and talents. In an ever-changing world, the ability to think quickly and efficiently will be a valuable asset, helping students become better prepared to face various challenges they may encounter in the future.

Abstract

Students of the Social Welfare Study Program at FISIP USU conducted a community service activity at Menara Kasih Indonesia Orphanage, aiming to enhance the learning interest and motivation of the children. This activity was carried out using an interactive and participatory question-and-answer method. The method was chosen for its effectiveness in fostering two-way communication, improving material comprehension, and encouraging children to be more active and confident in the learning process. The results of the activity showed that the question-and-answer approach successfully created an enjoyable learning atmosphere, motivated children to ask questions and think critically, and increased their enthusiasm for learning. Therefore, this method can be considered an effective strategy to support both cognitive and emotional development of children living in orphanages.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to improve the quality of life of children at Al Marhamah Orphanage in Medan through social mentoring and capacity building in emotional and social development. The intervention employs a casework approach focused on addressing the emotional and social needs of the orphaned children, particularly a child with initials (A) who faces difficulties in social interaction. The process includes stages of engagement, assessment, intervention planning, implementation, evaluation, and termination. Through methods such as role-playing and motivational storytelling, (A) demonstrated increased confidence and improved communication skills over a three-week intervention period. Additionally, the activity strengthened communication and empathy between the mentor and the ward. It is hoped that this activity can serve as a model for human-centered and holistic social intervention efforts to empower orphaned children and contribute to social welfare development in Indonesia. This experience also enhanced the students' practical skills during fieldwork, fostering greater social awareness regarding the needs of underprivileged children.

The author has clients (individuals) who experience these problems. The clients consist of children who are still in elementary school (SD) grade 2. The author uses the Casework stage in his research from the preparation stage to the termination stage. After carrying out all the casework stages, the results expected by the author are that the orphanage children (clients) can show positive development and be able to face social situations better.
