Abstract

This study aims to determine the Impoliteness Strategies of the Hate Comments on Twitter. This study was compiled using a qualitative descriptive research method. Data from hate comments made by netizens in response to the post of the son of the Indonesian president in the comments column of the official Twitter account belonging to Gibran Rakabuming Raka and data Sources from the official Twitter account of the vice presidential candidate. The number of data in this study is 50 data. The Instrument of Collecting Data uses Observation and Documentation and the method of collecting data uses searching, reading, choosing, capturing, and printing. The data was analyzed using the Formula P=F/N x100. From the research that has been done, it was found that there is a difference in the percentage between the five types of impoliteness strategies. In the bald on record, type 4 hate comment data were found with a percentage of 8%, positive impoliteness is 6 hate comment data with a percentage of 12%, negative impoliteness is 6 hate comment data with a percentage of 12%, sarcasm or mock impoliteness is 34 hate comment data with a percentage of 68%, and withhold impoliteness is 0 hate comment data with a percentage of 0%. So, it can be concluded that the most dominant type the impoliteness strategies in the results is sarcasm or mock impoliteness with a percentage of 68% in the thesis title Impoliteness Strategies of the Hate Comments on Twitter.

Abstract

Improving students' speaking skills is important in the language learning process. This study aims to determine the correlation between speaking anxiety and speaking performance in students and determine what speaking anxiety factors affect students' speaking performance in the second grade of SMA Negeri 1 Sipahutar. The research method used is quantitative. data was collected through speaking tests, questionnaires, and interviews. The result of the data analysis shows the result on correlation coefficient (r = 0.394) which is defined as a positive relationship between anxiety and speaking performance, defined that there is a positive relationship between speaking anxiety and speaking performance and the factors that influence speaking anxiety and students' speaking performance is the Trait Anxiety factor. The hypothesis test states that there is a significant relationship between speaking anxiety and students' speaking performance and the hypothesis test states that there is a significant relationship between speaking anxiety and student performance.

Abstract

This study focused on analyzing the teacher's utterances, namely, there are types of Politeness strategies by Yule's theory (1996), which researchers took to be two strategies, namely positive politeness and negative politeness. This research uses the descriptive-qualitative method by conducting observation and documentation. Based on the results of the analysis applied, researchers found 42 pieces of data from both types, namely positive politeness and negative politeness. Positive politeness: there are 29 data points with a percentage of 69% and negative politeness: there are 13 data points with a percentage of 31%. From the results of this study, the most dominant thing teachers say when teaching is that teachers apply positive politeness. This analysis shows how important politeness strategies are to improving teacher-student interaction. It shows that a balanced approach can help the teaching and learning process be better and students feel motivated.

Abstract

This study aims to find out the type of maxim and the most dominant maxim of politeness principle in the Joe Rogan Experience Podcast. This study was compiled using a qualitative descriptive research method. The data of the study is the maxim of politeness principle in the transcript of the podcast Miley Cyrus and Joe Rogan. The author  ’s data source is from the “Youtube” Joe Rogan Experience Podcast. The number of data in this research is 60 data. The instrument of collecting data in this research was supported by observing the trancript of Joe Rogan Experience and Miley Cyrus to analyze the maxim of politeness principle and documentation from the video on Youtube from the Joe Rogan Experience Podcast. From the research that has been done, it was found that there is a difference in percentage between the 6 types maxim of politeness Principle. Tact maxim data with a percentage of 28,33%, Approbation maxim data with a percentage of 8,33%, Generosity Maxim data with a percentage of 8,33%, Modesty Maxim data with a percentage of 18,33%, Sympathy Maxim data with a percentage of 1,7%, Agreement Maxim data with a percentage 35%. So, it can be concluded that the results showed that Agreement Maxim is the most dominant type maxim of politeness principle in the podcast of “Joe Rogan Experience". Agreement Maxim is minimize disagreement between self and other, maximize agreement between self and other.

Abstract

This research aims to determine students’ metacognitive and reading comprehension in narrative text. This study investigates whether metacognitive awareness affects students' reading comprehension of narrative text at SMA N 3 Binjai. This research applied a quantitative approach, the population was the second-grade students at SMA N 3 Binjai in the 2024 academic year, and the sample was XI MIA 1 and XI MIA 2. The first sample involves 34 students for the experimental group (XI MIA 1) and the second sample involves 36 students for the control group (XI MIA 2). The instruments for collecting data were tests and questionnaires. There were pre-tests and post-tests for collecting data and the researcher gave pre-tests and post-tests to both classes. Based on the data, it was found that the result of the t-test (t-calculated) was higher than the t-table value at a significance level of p = 0,05 (2,1 > 1,995). Therefore, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. This indicates that metacognitive awareness was significantly influence the reading comprehension achievement of second-grade students at SMA N 3 Binjai.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efek size flipped classroom dalam pembelajaran matematika. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuantitatif dengan pendekatan meta-analisis. Sumber data dalam penelitian berasal dari 15 jurnal nasional dan internasional terbitan tahun 2021-2024. Pencarian data melalui google Scholar, Wiley, ERIC dan Mendeley. Kata kunci pencarian data adalah Flipped Classroom; Pengaruh Flipped Classroom dalam pembelajaran Matematika, Implementasi Flipped Classroom dan Efektivitas flipped classroom dalam pembelajaran matematika. Teknik pengumpulan data observasi langsung dan dokumentasi. Analisis data adalah analisis kuantitatif dengan bantuan Microsoft Excel 2020. Hasil penelitian menyimpulkan nilai rata-rata effect size sebesar 1.008 dengan kategori effect size yang tinggi. Temuan ini menjelaskan flipped classroom memberikan pengaruh positif dalam pembelajaran matematika siswa.

Abstract

Abstract: The aim of the research was to find out the English Teacher Performance in Teaching Learning during Pandemic Covid-19. The subject was the teachers of Duta Harapan School Medan who tough through English Language. This research applied the anthropolinguistic approach. The data were the utterances of teachers while they were in online teaching. The analytical research used interactive model with three interactive steps, namely: data condensation, data display and drawing/verifying conclusion. The results of this research showed that the teacher’s performance in teaching English during the pandemic were quite good. The teachers had different tribes, social class and background. They showed different performances that used to convey the knowledge through explaining, advising, reminding, persuading and motivating. The performance was divided into opening, core and closing activities. There were found paralinguistic, kinesics, and material elements on the teacher’s performance. The teacher’s performance encouraged and motivated the students to study. Virtual meeting forced the teacher to upgrade their own ability, technologies, learning facilities, and speaking skill to attract student’s interest. The creative activities teacher appreciated the students’ contribution and activeness. The teacher show smiling face, happy face and clap the hands when the student did good effort. Keywords: English teacher, Performance, Pandemic, Anthropolinguistic approach.  Abstrak: Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui performansi Guru Bahasa Inggris dalam Pembelajaran Mengajar selama Pandemi Covid-19. Subjek penelitian ini adalah guru-guru Bahasa Inggris di Sekolah Duta Harapan Medan. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan antropolinguistik. Data adalah ucapan-ucapan guru saat guru mengajar online. Analisis penelitian menggunakan model interaktif dengan tiga langkah interaktif, yaitu: kondensasi data, penyajian data dan penarikan/verifikasi kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa performansi guru dalam mengajar bahasa Inggris selama pandemi cukup baik. Para guru berasal dari suku, kelas sosial dan latar belakang yang berbeda. Mereka menunjukkan performansi yang berbeda untuk menyampaikan pelajaran seperti menjelaskan, menasihati, mengingatkan, membujuk dan memotivasi. Performansi yang ditemukan terdiri atas:  pembuka, inti dan penutup. Terdapat unsur paralinguistik, kinesik, dan materi pada performansi guru. Performansi guru mendorong dan memotivasi siswa untuk belajar. Pertemuan virtual memaksa guru untuk meningkatkan kemampuan, teknologi, fasilitas belajar, dan keterampilan berbicara mereka sendiri untuk menarik minat siswa. Kegiatan kreatif menciptakan pembelajaran aktif sehingga guru menghargai kontribusi dan keaktifan siswa. Guru menunjukkan wajah tersenyum, wajah bahagia dan bertepuk tangan ketika siswa melakukan usaha yang baik. Kata kunci: Guru Bahasa Inggris, Performansi, Pandemi, Pendekatan Antropolinguistik.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui permasalahan berbicara bahasa Inggris apa saja yang dialami oleh mahasiswa bahasa Inggris semester 3 Universitas HKBP Nommensen Medan dan mengetahui apa yang menyebabkan permasalahan berbicara bahasa Inggris tersebut terjadi. Peneliti melakukan penelitian ini pada mahasiswa semester tiga jurusan Bahasa Inggris Universitas HKBP Nommensen Medan. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode kualitatif. Objek penelitian ini adalah 20 mahasiswa semester tiga kelompok A dan kelompok B Jurusan Bahasa Inggris Universitas HKBP Nommensen Medan. Dalam pengumpulan data, peneliti menggunakan observasi, wawancara dan juga mengirimkan kuesioner kepada partisipan. Setelah mengumpulkan data, tahap selanjutnya yang dilakukan peneliti adalah menganalisis data. Yang mana dalam menganalisis data menggunakan teori Miles dan Huberman (2014). Setelah menganalisis data, peneliti menemukan bahwa siswa jurusan Bahasa Inggris memang memiliki masalah dalam berbicara Bahasa Inggris. Dari data yang ditemukan, terdapat sekitar 85% siswa yang mempunyai kendala dalam berbicara bahasa Inggris dan mengalami kendala. Dan ada juga sekitar 80% siswa yang mengalami keterbatasan kosa kata dan karena terbatasnya penguasaan kosa kata, 50% siswa mengalami ketidaklancaran ketika ingin membentuk kalimat yang dibahas. Hal ini disebabkan karena siswa mempunyai kendala, kurangnya pengetahuan, kurangnya latihan dengan peserta lain dan karena masih menggunakan bahasa ibu dalam kehidupan dan aktivitasnya, selain itu juga merasa minder dan kurang latihan. Dari data yang diperoleh, peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa memang ada masalah dalam berbicara bahasa Inggris di kalangan mahasiswa semester tiga.
