Abstract

Kata Kunci: ASI Eksklusif, Efikasi Diri, Penyuluhan, Pop-Up Book  ABSTRACT The low rate of exclusive breastfeeding is directly associated with mothers' lack of self-confidence, or breastfeeding self-efficacy. Nearly two out of three babies are not exclusively breastfed for the recommended six months, and this situation has shown little improvement over the last two decades. Breastfeeding stands as one of the most effective means to ensure the health and survival of children. Providing health education about breastfeeding during the third trimester can serve as a preparatory step towards nurturing a generation of capable parents. The aims of this study is to enhance the confidence of pregnant women in their readiness to breastfeed, with the hope that they can effectively overcome obstacles encountered during the breastfeeding process. This service was carried out through counseling and demonstrations, using the "SIASUI" pop-up book as a media for education. Counseling and demonstrations were conducted within the Mondokan Community Health Center's, Sragen, Central java. Following the intervention, which included the explanation of material related to breastfeeding, the respondents in the intervention group had an average score of 79 (SD=6.1), while the control group scored an average of 76.6 (SD=8.6). The "SIASUI" pop-up book can be considered as alternative media for enhancing breastfeeding self-efficacy in pregnant women. Keywords: Exclusive Breastfeeding, Self-Efficacy, Counseling, Pop-Up Book

Abstract

Primary Health Care Transformation positions health cadres as key actors in implementing Integrated Primary Care (IPC). Although flipcharts are widely used in health education, evidence on their effectiveness in improving cadre readiness for IPC remains limited. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of flipcharts in increasing Posyandu cadres’ IPC knowledge. A quasi-experimental one-group pre-test–post-test design without a control group was conducted among 30 purposively selected cadres in Sragen Regency in September 2025. IPC knowledge was measured using a structured questionnaire and analyzed with the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test. The mean knowledge score increased from 9.17 to 9.97, with a Wilcoxon test result of p = 0.002 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant improvement. These findings support previous evidence on the usefulness of simple visual media in strengthening cadre comprehension. Flipcharts are a practical educational tool to enhance cadre capacity and support IPC implementation at the community level.

Abstract

Background: Indications of stunting incidence in toddlers of the Tengger Tribe in East Java, related to socio-cultural practices in daily life that have an impact on health conditions and nutritional fulfillment of toddlers. This study aims to analyze the socio-cultural factors that affect the incidence of stunting in Tengger Tribe toddlers in East Java.Subjects and Method: This study is a qualitative research with a phenomenological approach. The research was conducted at the Lumajang Regency Health, Population Control, and Family Planning Office (P2KB), Senduro District Office, Senduro Health Center, and Ranupani Village. A total of 9 key informants, including the head of nutrition and public health, the head of population and family planning, the head of the Senduro Health Center, nutritionists, village midwives, family planning field officers of Senduro District, the head of the Ranupani Village government, the traditional shaman of the Tengger Tribe, and the baby shaman. A total of 9 mothers of toddlers as the main informants and 9 supporting informants were purposively sampling, including family members, cadres, health care officers, and sanitarians. Data collection was carried out through interviews, observations, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. Results: The study showed limited maternal knowledge about the health conditions and growth of toddlers. Traditional shamans play an important role in social decision-making, while gender equality affects the workload of mothers in economic activities. The parenting and care of toddlers is influenced by the cultural practices of the Tengger Tribe which are still strongly attached to daily life, as well as the environmental conditions of mountain communities who mostly depend on the agricultural sector for their livelihoods. Belief in ancestral spirits influences health decisions, through restrictions on maternal activity and mobility during pregnancy and after childbirth, as well as dietary restrictions that are believed to have adverse effects on pregnancy and toddlers. Conclusion: The incidence of stunting in toddlers of the Tengger Tribe is related to socio-cultural factors which include maternal knowledge, social interaction patterns, toddler parenting patterns, and belief in ancestral spirits in health decision-making.

Abstract

Background: Low birth weight (LBW), defined as a birth weight of less than 2,500 grams, is associated with an increased risk of neonatal mortality and developmental disorders. Efforts to prevent and manage LBW can be made through the administration of iron and folic acid supplements during pregnancy. This study aims to estimate and analyze the effect of iron and folic acid supplementation on the birth of infants with low birth weight. Subjects and Method: This study is a systematic review and meta-analysis of relevant previous studies conducted using the PRISMA guidelines. The population included pregnant women, interventions involving iron and folic acid supplementation compared to no supplementation, and outcomes related to low birth weight. Article searches were conducted in the PubMed, ScienceDirect, Scopus, and Google Scholar databases, published between 2013 and 2025. The search terms were ("Pregnant woman" OR "Expectant mother") AND ("Iron and folic acid supplements" OR "IFA supplements") AND ("Low Birth Weight" OR "Low-weight newborns"). Inclusion criteria included full-text articles with a cross-sectional study design and reporting adjusted odds ratio (aOR) values. Findings from the primary research articles were analyzed using Review Manager 5.3. Results: The included primary studies comprised 21 articles from China, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Malawi, and Ethiopia. The results of this meta-analysis indicate that pregnant women who consumed iron and folic acid supplements had an average 0.87 unit lower risk of giving birth to LBW infants compared to pregnant women who did not consume iron and folic acid supplements (aOR= 0.87; 95% CI = 0.75 to 1.00; p= 0.040). Conclusion: The administration of iron and folic acid supplements can reduce the incidence of low birth weight.

Abstract

Background: Perinatal mental health disorders significantly contribute to maternal and neonatal morbidity, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) such as Indonesia. Midwives, as frontline maternal healthcare providers, are uniquely positioned to screen for and support women experiencing mental health disorders. However, their involvement remains limited due to systemic, educational, and institutional barriers. Purpose: This study aims to understand the factors influencing midwives' knowledge and utilization of perinatal mental health screening services in Indonesia. Methods: A secondary analysis was conducted using cross-sectional data from an online survey of 300 midwives across Indonesia between June-August 2024. Variables included demographic characteristics, training experience, access to mental health resources, screening knowledge, and utilization behavior. Descriptive statistics and path analysis were used to examine direct and indirect influences on screening utilization. Results: Despite an average of 15 years of clinical experience, only 9.7% of midwives had used mental health screening tools. Just 8.7% had received formal mental health training, and only one-third had access to relevant guidelines. Screening knowledge was significantly predicted by access to structured information sources (β = 1.42; p < 0.001) and directly influenced screening utilization (β = 3.05; p < 0.001). Indirect factors, such as duration of service or interest in training, had no significant effect. Public health outreach and structured training improved access to learning materials. Conclusion: Despite strong interest among midwives, gaps in training, resources, and institutional support hinder effective mental health screening. Strengthening structured training programs and improving access to information are essential steps toward empowering midwives in perinatal mental health care. However, as most participants were from Western Indonesia, these findings should be interpreted with caution, and future studies should include broader geographic representation to better capture the national context

Abstract

Background: Dysmenorrhea is a common reproductive health problem among adolescent girls and often interferes with daily activities. Various management strategies are used to alleviate dysmenorrhea, including the use of traditional medicine. This study aimed to examine the influence of Health Belief Model (HBM) constructs on the choice of traditional medicine for reducing dysmenorrhea among adolescent girls. Subject and Methods: This quantitative study employed a cross-sectional design carried out in Boyolali Regency, Central Java, Indonesia. A total of 200 female adolescents were selected using stratified random sampling. Data were collected using a standardized questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability. Multivariate data analysis was conducted using path analysis to identify both direct and indirect effects among variables. Results:  The selection of traditional medicine for dysmenorrhea management among adolescent girls was directly influenced by perceived benefits (b = 1.29; 95% CI= 0.61–1.97; p < 0.001) and perceived severity (b= −0.14; 95% CI= −0.71 to 0.43; p= 0.631). Meanwhile, perceived susceptibility (b= 0.81; 95% CI= 0.17–1.45; p= 0.013), perceived barriers (b= −1.53; 95% CI= −2.29 to −0.77; p < 0.001), cues to action (b= 1.44; 95% CI= 0.80–2.09; p < 0.001), and self-efficacy (b= −0.98; 95% CI= −1.61 to −0.34; p = 0.003) had indirect effects on the choice of traditional medicine. The resulting path model demonstrated good goodness-of-fit. Conclusion: Health Belief Model constructs can be effectively applied as a framework for understanding the selection of traditional medicine. HBM-based interventions that emphasize increasing perceived benefits and managing perceived barriers are recommended to support informed reproductive health decision-making among adolescents

Abstract

Background: Low back pain is one of the most common musculoskeletal complaints among police personnel. Several factors, including working posture, work-related stress, smoking habits, and physical activity, are presumed to be associated with the occurrence of low back pain. This study aimed to analyze factors associated with low back pain among police personnel. Subjects and Method: This analytic observational study with a cross-sectional design involved 226 male and female police personnel aged 20–40 years in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, selected using total sampling. The dependent variable was the occurrence of low back pain, while the independent variables included working posture, work-related stress, smoking habits, physical activity, age, and years of service. Data were collected using the Rapid Upper Limb Assessment (RULA) to assess working posture, the Police Stress Questionnaire–Operational (PSQ-Op) to measure work-related stress, and the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) to assess low back pain intensity. Data were analyzed using the Chi-square test and path analysis. Results: Path analysis showed significant direct effects of non-ergonomic working posture (b = 0.19; 95% CI = 0.09 to 0.29; p < 0.001), work-related stress (b = 0.35; 95% CI = 0.23 to 0.46; p < 0.001), smoking habits (b = 0.17; 95% CI = 0.05 to 0.29; p = 0.007), physical activity (b = −0.16; 95% CI = −0.27 to −0.05; p = 0.006), and age (b = 0.11; 95% CI = 0.01 to 0.22; p = 0.034) on the occurrence of low back pain. Years of service had an indirect effect on low back pain through age (b = 0.99; 95% CI= 0.98 to 0.99; p < 0.001). Conclusion: Non-ergonomic working posture, work-related stress, smoking habits, physical activity, and age have direct effects on the occurrence of low back pain.
