Abstract

ABSTRAC The background of the research is because students feel that learning mathematics is not interesting so that during the learning process, students quickly feel bored. The research population was students of Madrasah Tsanawiyah Pondok Pesantren Modern Al-Kautsar with a sample size of 27 students in the experimental group and 26 students in the control group. The results of the study revealed that there was an influence between the joyful learning model on students' understanding of mathematical concepts. This is evidenced by the results of the hypothesis test with the "t" test which shows that the tcount value = 5.2257 and ttable = 2.058, it can be said that tcount> ttable, then Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. From the findings of the research above, the joyful learning model is feasible to be applied in the classroom as one solution to improve the ability to understand mathematical concepts of junior high school students.

Abstract

Education as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic has undergone transformation related to the learning process from face-to-face learning process to online-based learning process that utilizes various online platforms, such as WhatsApp, YouTube, and Zoom Meetings. The use of online platforms helps students to improve their cognitive skills, one of which is statistical skills. This study aims to determine whether there is a significant statistical difference between learning using WhatsApp, YouTube, and Zoom Meetings during online learning and to find out which online platforms are effective and interactive. The research sample consisted of 69 students taking statistics courses. The research method is mix-method or mix of quantitative and qualitative. The data collection techniques are online-based test instruments, questionnaires and interviews. The data analysis used Kruskal Wallis test and descriptive analysis test. The results showed that there were differences in students' statistical skills between the three classes, where the best came from learning using YouTube platform. The findings also show that students give higher positive responses to the use of YouTube as platform in online learning. The interview results show that the use of YouTube is more effective and interactive for students while participating in online-based learning. By that means, YouTube platform is effective in improving statistical skills in online learning.

Abstract

The research aims to develop a learning module that employs a STEM–integrated PBL framework to strengthen the mathematical communication proficiencies of secondary school learners. Its attributes encompass being sound, functional, and productive. The methodology adopted in this study is the R&D approach, utilising the ADDIE framework for development, which encompasses analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The subject pool for this research comprised the entirety of the 30 students enrolled in class VII at Muhmmadiyah 7 Medan Junior High School. The study’s findings indicated that the learning module’s validity assessment placed it within the highly valid spectrum, with an average score of 87,41%. Furthermore, the assessment of the learning module’s practicality, derived from teacher questionnaires, placed it in the highly practical category with a 95% rating, while student questionnaires yielded an 86,14% rating, also denoting a highly practical standing. Additionally, the post-test outcomes revealed an enhancement in students’ mathematical communication prowess, marked by a 77,58% surge, thus categorising it as effective. Hence, the learning module, integrating the STEM-based PBL model to elevate Junior High School Students’ Mathematical Communication Skills, demonstrates both practicality and effectiveness.
