Abstract

Abstract

ABSTRACT The tutoring center "Kenosis" in Sidoyoso, established in 2016 by GKA Gloria Pos Sidoyoso, provides free educational support for elementary school children. This program helps in the academic and character development of children, initially taught by instructors from the Inter-University Christian Fellowship (Perkantas) and now reinforced by 4 permanent teachers. In addition to the need for tutoring, children are faced with daily conditions such as unhealthy snacks, low understanding of dental hygiene, and the importance of handwashing. These bad habits increase the risk of dental caries, infectious diseases, and the consumption of harmful food additives. Education and supervision are key to improving children's health and well-being. The Poltekkes Kemenkes Surabaya service team, consisting of 21 lecturers and 11 students, provided solutions to the above issues to 35 elementary school children at the Kenosis tutoring center on January 9, 2025, by delivering educational materials and practicing how to choose healthy snacks, brush teeth, and wash hands properly and correctly. Knowledge of harmful food additives The average pre-test score was 60.2, while the post-test score was 70.5. Understanding of proper tooth brushing techniques pre-test result 60.0 and post-test 70.5, understanding of good and correct handwashing habits had an average pre-test score of 60.0 and a post-test score of 70.5. There was an increase in knowledge about harmful food additives, proper tooth brushing techniques, and proper handwashing at the "Kenosis GKA Gloria Pos Sidoyoso" tutoring session. Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a non-communicable disease (PTM) that is chronic and can weaken the immune system so that sufferers are 3 times more likely to suffer from pulmonary TB. In chronic infection there is continuous inflammation which is characterized by the presence of neutrophils themselves and will be followed by low lymphocyte values due to immune system pathways that do not work perfectly. The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation between the Neutrophil Lymphocyte Ratio (NLR) and the incidence of Tuberculosis in Diabetes Mellitus patients at the Jorongan Health Center, Probolinggo Regency. This research is a correlative analytic study with a cross sectional approach. A total of 30 samples of diabetes mellitus patients at the Jorongan Health Center from January to April 2023. The NLR examination method was with a hematology analyzer and tuberculosis patients were examined using Molecular Rapid Test. The statistical test uses Spearman's nonparametric test. The results showed that there was a correlation between NLR values and the incidence of tuberculosis in diabetes mellitus patients at the Jorongan Health Center, p = 0.003 and r = 0.521. Further research needs to be carried out involving larger samples and other laboratory tests related to the immune system in patients with diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

Jombang Regency was the 10th most prevalent smoker in East Java in 2018 and experienced an increase in the prevalence of smokers by 0.1% from 2013. The high number of smokers raises a concern. Smoking may lead to an increase of hs-CRP and LDL cholesterol levels, where the increase in these two parameters is closely related to the formation of atherosclerotic plaques, as a cause of cardiovascular disease. Physical activity of each individual is something that needs to be known because it affects the levels of hs-CRP and LDL cholesterol. This study aims to analyze the correlation between hs-CRP and LDL cholesterol in active smokers with physical activity. This study used an observational analytic study with a cross-sectional design. This research was conducted in March-April 2022 with a total sample of 32 active smokers who work as pedicab drivers at Pondok Pesantren 'DU', Jombang Regency. The hs-CRP examination was carried out using the Latex Turbidimetric Assay method, while the LDL cholesterol examination was using the Homogeneous Enzymatic Colorimetric Assay method. Based on the statistical analysis of the Spearman correlation, the results obtained p>0.05 (p = 0.687, r = 0.074), which means that there is no correlation between levels of hs-CRP and LDL cholesterol in active smokers with physical activity.

Abstract

Typhoid fever can be diagnosed in suspected patients through the Tubex TF test, which has a relatively high sensitivity and specificity of 73%. Typhoid fever can also be diagnosed by examining the number of mononuclear leukocytes, particularly monocytes and lymphocytes, which are indicators of bacterial infection. Typhoid fever is a disease caused by Salmonella typhi. Typhoid fever cases in Indonesia range from 350 to 810 per 100,000 people, with a prevalence of 1.6%. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the number of mononuclear leukocytes (monocytes and lymphocytes) and Tubex TF results in patients suspected of typhoid fever. This study was an analytical observational study and the sampling technique used was consecutive sampling, with all subjects meeting the selection criteria, amounting to 63 samples. The number of mononuclear leukocytes (monocytes, lymphocytes) was determined using a Hematology Analyzer and the Tubex TF test was determined using the IMBI method. Spearman's correlation test was used for statistical analysis. The findings showed a significant correlation between the number of monocytes and the Tubex TF results in patients suspected of typhoid fever (p = 0.006 < ? = 0.05). In contrast, no significant correlation was found between the number of lymphocytes and the Tubex TF results in the same group of patients (p = 0.296 > ? = 0.05). Abstract

ABSTRACT Sepsis neonatorum is one of the biggest triggers of neonatal deaths in Indonesia. The Diagnosis of sepsis is difficult to establish due to non-specific symptoms, so accurate, affordable, and easily accessible biomarkers are needed. Commonly used biomarkers such as C-Reactive Protein (CRP) and Procalcitonin (PCT) have limited cost and availability. Neutrophil lymphocyte Ratio (NLR) is a promising alternative because it can be obtained from a routine complete blood count. The study intends to determine the correlation between the value of NLR and CRP in children indicated sepsis in RSUD dr. Sayidiman Magetan. The study was classified as cross sectional based analytical observational in 33 pediatric patients suspected of sepsis during October 2024 to March 2025. Spearman correlation testing is used in the data analysis of this study because the distribution of data is not normal based on the Shapiro-Wilk test. The average value of NLR was 6.72% and CRP was 70.16 mg/L. Spearman correlation test results showed a moderate correlation between NLR and CRP with a correlation coefficient of 0.407 (p = 0.019). There is a significant moderate correlation between NLR and CRP in pediatric patients with suspected sepsis, so NLR can potentially be used as an alternative inflammatory marker to detect pediatric sepsis.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) such as HIV, Hepatitis B, and Syphilis are serious public health problems, especially among high-risk groups like female sex workers. The Pasar Sayur Magetan area has a high potential for STI transmission due to nighttime entertainment activities and the presence of dimly lit establishments. This study aims to identify the presence of STIs among women in Magetan as a basis for planning prevention and education programs by the government and health authorities. This research uses an analytical cross-sectional survey design with venous blood samples collected in EDTA anticoagulant tubes from female sex workers at Pasar Sayur Magetan. Data were collected through Rapid Diagnostic Tests (RDT) using immunochromatographic methods to detect HIV, Hepatitis B, and Syphilis, along with questionnaires to identify risk factors and behaviors influencing STI transmission. The study found cases of HIV and Syphilis among female sex workers in Pasar Sayur Magetan. The main risk factors include unsafe sexual behavior, inconsistent condom use, frequent partner changes, and limited education and knowledge. Although all respondents practiced good genital hygiene, this did not fully prevent STIs transmitted through blood and bodily fluids. This survey reveals the prevalence of STIs and the main risk factors in Pasar Sayur Magetan. These findings serve as a foundation for the government and health services to design prevention, education, and early detection programs to reduce cases and increase awareness of safe sexual behavior.

Abstract

Hyperglycaemia is caused by poor insulin production and insulin resistance, which is the beginning of type 2 diabetes mellitus. The blockage of blood vessels caused by this disease is due to the increase in blood sugar levels, which is the cause of diabetic ulcers. As a result, patients are often unaware of their injuries. This research aims to identify differences in platelet indices (MPV, PDW and PCT) in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus who have diabetic ulcers and those who do not. This research uses observational analysis methods and a cross-sectional analysis approach. The independent variable in this study was type 2 diabetes mellitus patients with and without diabetic ulcers, while the dependent variable in this study was the platelet value, consisting of MPV in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients with and without diabetic ulcers of 7,716 fL and 7,837 fL. The mean PCT in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients with and without diabetic ulcers was 0.225% and 0.245%, respectively. The mean PDW in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients with and without diabetic ulcers was 18.825% and 14.237%, respectively. The results of data analysis using unpaired t-test showed a p-value of 0.00 for PDW and 0.002 for MPV, so it was concluded that there were differences in MPV and PDW in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients who had diabetic ulcers and those who did not.
