Abstract

Implementasi Kurikulum Merdeka yang digulirkan pemerintah Indonesia banyak menimbulkan kegagapan di sekolah, khususnya para guru. Para guru harus belajar dan berlatih lebih banyak tentang kurikulum baru ini. Sekolah-sekolah yang berada di kota dengan jaringan internet yang lancar barangkali menerima informasi tentang Implementasi Kurikulum Merdeka dengan mudah. Hal ini tentunya tidak sama dengan sekolah-sekolah yang ada di pedalaman, termasuk SMP Negeri Teflasi. Sekolah dengan akses yang terjal dan kondisi jaringan internet yang buruk menjadikan informasi tentang Implementasi Kurikulum Merdeka tidak mudah diperoleh. Tujuan adanya program pengabdian sosialisasi di SMP Negeri Teflasi adalah untuk memberikan informasi berkaitan dengan Implementasi Kurikulum Merdeka beserta platform merdeka belajar. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat Sosialisasi Pengenalan Kurikulum Merdeka ini disampaikan kepada para guru SMP Negeri Teflasi Kabupaten Timor Tengah Utara. Metode pelaksanaan kegiatan ini adalah metode presentasi yang  menampilkan materi melalui LCD dan juga demonstrasi langsung platform merdeka belajar melalui smartphone. Implementasi hasil pengabdian yang dilaksanakan adalah guru mengetahui informasi berkaitan dengan Implementasi Kurikulum Merdeka di sekolah dan guru mampu menggunakan platform merdeka belajar. Guru-guru juga mengetahui perbedaan antara Kurikulum Merdeka dengan kurikulum sebelumnya. Guru-guru juga sudah memperoleh platform merdeka belajar di smartphone masing-masing dan dapat diakses kapanpun ketika jaringan internet baik.

Abstract

The aim of this study to know students’ perception of Google Translate as Media for Translating English Descriptive Text at Fifth Semester of English Department Nommensen HKBP University. Questionnaires which formulated in google form are formulated as instrument to collect students’ responds on the usage of google translate in translating source to target. The questionnaire sheet consists of twelve questions about students’ perception of Google Translate as media for translating English descriptive text. The source of data in this study was taken by the fifth-semester student of English Department. There are twenty students have been filled the questionnaire sheet. This study was applied a descriptive qualitative design. The findings from the data analysis, Students have different positive and negative perception about Google Translate as media for translating English descriptive text. Students really like using Google translate as media for translating English descriptive text because make students easier. Students can translate text faster than open a dictionary. Google translate help students improve vocabulary with good intonation. They feel happy because it is easier to use but Google translate incorrect to translate in level of sentence. Based on their perceptions state that Google translate can be used as an alternative ways in teaching and learning activities.

Abstract

The business’ level, lack of knowledge about the making process and use of hand sanitizers from natural ingredients caused sellers in Pasar Baru Kefamenanu do not apply the health protocols during transactions with buyers. Therefore, there needs to be educated about natural ingredients that can be used as hand sanitizers, the making process, and how to use them. Natural ingredients that are found in Kefamenanu are betel leaves. Education on making hand sanitizers from betel leaves helps sellers to be able to make their own hand sanitizers. The addition of aloe vera to betel leaves extract aims to make the liquid hand sanitizer becomes softer. While lime and perfume are to get rid of the betel leaves’ smell. The distribution of hand sanitizers that has been made can be an example of products from natural ingredients and the storage bottles provided can be used as a refill place for hand sanitizer.

Abstract

One of the e-learning platforms that can be utilized during the Covid-19 pandemic is Edmodo. Edmodo learning media which is very functional, besides being able to be used for students and lecturers, can also be used by parents. Assignments were given through the assignment and quiz features that have a time limit, so they can practice discipline in doing assignments. The objectives of implementing this activity are; First, providing the concept and socialization of the use of Edmodo for the learning process. Second, providing knowledge on how to use and apply the features contained in the Edmodo platform to facilitate the English learning process. The target of this service was Animal Husbandry II C students who in this semester are studying English and Biology. This community service was able to provide knowledge to use the Edmodo e-learning platform for free to support conventional learning during this covid-19 pandemic. This activity lasted for 1 day in one of the room of the Faperta Unimor building.

Abstract

This research is a descriptive quantitative research that deals with the use of series of to improve the students’ ability in reading narrative text at the grade ten of SMA Kampus Pematangsiantar. The research problem of this study were (1) how is the implementation of picture series in teaching narrative reading of narrative text to grade ten of SMA Kampus Pematangsiantar. The writer applies the theories of Lado (1986), Harmer (1998), Alderson (2000), Nunan (2003), Patel (2008) and Siahaan (2011) to analyze the understanding of reading. The research methodology used the essay test as the instrument of collecting the data by applying pre test, treatment and post test. The result of this study showed that the reading ability of the students after using picture series to teach reading narrative text to grade ten of SMA Kampus Pematangsiantar is significantly improved.

Abstract

This present study was proposed to investigate the notion of request speech acts among native Sumatran. The informants took a Discourse Completion Test (DCT) consists of eight scenarios and respond it based on the situation given. The responses were analyzed by directness categories in scale designed by Blum-Kulka et al (1984) named Cross-Cultural Study of Speech Act Realization Patterns (CCSARP). The result shows that Sumatran informants mostly use conventionally indirect request as a strategy in formulating request speech acts. The outcomes revealed that a high number of politeness marker is employed along with grounded as parts of external and internal modification in request performing.

Abstract

This study attempted to find out the effect of using skimming and scanning to the students’ ability in reading comprehension at grade X in SMA Kampus Nommensen Pematangsiantar. This research design of is quantitative descriptive. The population of this research is students of SMA Kampus Nommensen Pematangsiantar with cluster sampling data. The researcher gets 60 students as the sample which divided by 30 students as the sample of control class (X-1) and 30 students as the experimental class (X-2). The multiple-choices test is used by the researcher as the instruments to get the data. The test is given to measure the students’ ability in reading comprehension of narrative texts especially in the type of myths. After collected the data, the researcher analyzed the data to find out the effect of skimming and scanning from the calculation scores of pre-test and post-test. Based on the data analysis it is found that the tobserve is higher than ttable (4,54>1,67). So, it can be concluded that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. In other word, it can be stated that Skimming and Scanning significantly affect the students’ reading comprehension at grade X of SMA Kampus Nommensen Pematangsiar.

Abstract

This research attempted to know the extent of the ability of students in speaking skill by using debate at grade twelveth in SMA Kampus Nommensen Pematangsiantar. This study follows methodology in qualitative since qualitative research, is concerned with qualitative phenomenon. The data to be collected in this research is the data recorded debate and the topic is “Tehnological trens in Teaching and Learning”. The writers analyzed seven (7) items of Levels of Performance Test from the students’ debate, they are: motion, themeline, timekeeper, argument, rebuttal, definition, and sum up or closing. After analyzing the data, the writers found that speaking skill at grade twelveth in SMA Kampus Nommensen Pematangsiantar by using debate test performance is not good yet, based on the result of research, the writers concluded that speaking skill by using Debate very helpful in developing speaking students including by using debate. At last, the writers suggested for the english teacher to give the students a lot of opportunity to practice speaking and have active involvement in debate and create enjoyable, fun and interesting situation as possible as the teacher can.

Abstract

The study is about correlational study between the students’ frequency of viewing YouTube English Program and their listening comprehension. The objectives of the study is to find out whether or not a correlation between frequency of viewing YouTube video and their listening comprehension. This study employed quantitative method and is designed to be correlational. In collecting the data, the writer used questionnaire as the proper instrument to find out the students’ frequency of viewing YouTube as the independent variable and their listening comprehension score as the dependent variable. The data were analyzed using SPSS (Statistical Product and Service Solutions). From 30 students, 23% of them view YouTube four to five hours a day, 13% students between three to four hours a day, 40% students two to three hours a day, 17% viewed YouTube one to two hours a day, and 7% of them stated that they had never viewed any YouTube English programs. Most of the English program videos in YouTube that they watch consist of the entertainment and educational programs. From the data analysis of the correlation between students’ frequency of viewing YouTube English program and their listening comprehension, it was found 0.901 (r test= 0.901). This result then was consulted with the r-table in a significant level of 1% with N= 30 is 0.463. The data shows that r value is higher than r- table value (0.901>0.463). It means that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted while the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. In the other words, the result shows that there is a positive correlation between students’ frequency of viewing English YouTube program and their listening skill.

Abstract

This study dealt with the common phenomena error translations in public signs of tourist resorts in Parapat and Bukit Lawang. The objective of this study is to find out the translation’s techniques to avoid error translation of public signs at the two tourist resorts (Parapat and Bukit Lawang). Qualitative research was applied in this study. In process of collecting data, the researcher took supporting instrument, such as camera to catch the photo of public signs in the tourism places in Bukit Lawang-Kabupaten Langkat, and Parapat, Kabupaten Simalungun. The researcher also used English Tourism dictionary as the supporting tools to help the researcher find the natural translation in English translation of public signs in tourism places. The findings of this study showed that there are several techniques can be applied to avoid error translations such as transposition, addition, functional equivalent, cultural equivalent, and naturalization.
