Abstract

Baby blues is an emotional disorder that often occurs in postpartum mothers and can affect the mother's health and the baby's growth and development. Maternal knowledge, social support and family support are thought to play a role in the incidence of baby blues. This research used a quantitative design with a cross sectional approach on 51 postpartum mothers in the Sugih Waras OKI Community Health Center working area in 2025 who were selected using a total sampling technique. Research instruments include questionnaires on maternal knowledge, social support, family support, and the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS). Data analysis was carried out univariately and bivariately using the chi-square test (α = 0.05). The prevalence of baby blues was 51.0% (26 respondents). The results of the analysis showed that there was no relationship between maternal knowledge and the incidence of baby blues (p = 0.706), while social support (p = 0.004) and family support (p = 0.003) were significantly related. Mothers with less social support and family support have a higher proportion of baby blues incidents. The prevalence of baby blues in the Sugih Waras OKI Community Health Center working area is relatively high, with social support and family support being significantly related, while maternal knowledge does not show a significant relationship

Abstract

Stunting remains a chronic nutritional problem of major concern in Indonesia. Preschool-aged children are particularly vulnerable to the ongoing impacts of stunting. The nutritional process involves the intake of nutrients that are digested and absorbed by the digestive tract, then used for energy, the formation and repair of body tissues, and the regulation of biochemical and hormonal functions. The MMD was attended by 25 people, consisting of community members, health workers, lecturers, and students. Participants provided input on efforts to prevent infectious diseases, particularly stunting, which has been experienced by several residents. The educational activity took place on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. WIB, involving families with a history of stunting. This activity aimed to improve families' health care skills related to stunting prevention. Programs or interventions implemented to prevent stunting must carefully consider both input and process aspects to achieve optimal output and must involve all parties, from mothers of toddlers to cross-sectoral stakeholders

Abstract

Background: Asthma is a chronic respiratory disorder characterized by airway narrowing and increased airway resistance, leading to recurrent episodes of dyspnea, wheezing, chest tightness, and coughing. Effective nursing management of asthma requires the identification and control of trigger factors as well as supportive interventions to improve respiratory function. One non-pharmacological intervention that can be applied in nursing care is the Diaphragmatic Breathing Exercise, which aims to enhance ventilation efficiency and oxygenation. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the effect of diaphragmatic breathing exercise on respiratory rate and oxygen saturation in patients with bronchial asthma. Methods: This study employed a quasi-experimental approach using a one-group pretest–posttest design. A total of 37 patients diagnosed with bronchial asthma were recruited using purposive sampling. Participants received the diaphragmatic breathing exercise intervention. Data were collected by measuring respiratory rate and oxygen saturation before and after the intervention. Statistical analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test to determine differences between pretest and posttest values. Results: The findings indicated a significant improvement in respiratory parameters after the intervention. The mean respiratory rate decreased from 24.95 (SD = 1.649) at pretest to 17.54 (SD = 1.789) at posttest, showing a statistically significant difference (p = 0.000). Oxygen saturation also demonstrated a significant change, with a mean pretest value of 96.16 (SD = 1.068) and a posttest value of 98.62 (SD = 0.681) (p = 0.000). These results suggest that diaphragmatic breathing exercise contributes to improved respiratory efficiency and oxygenation among patients with bronchial asthma. Conclusion: The implementation of diaphragmatic breathing exercise significantly reduces respiratory rate and improves oxygen saturation in patients with bronchial asthma. This intervention can be incorporated into nursing care as a simple, non-pharmacological strategy to enhance respiratory function and support holistic patient management. Nurses are encouraged to provide education and training on diaphragmatic breathing exercises as part of comprehensive asthma care.

Abstract

Bronchopneumonia remains a common respiratory condition that frequently leads to impaired breathing patterns in pediatric patients. Dyspnea that is not properly managed may lead to hypoxia and increased respiratory workload. Simple, safe, and evidence-based non-pharmacological interventions are needed to alleviate dyspnea symptoms. One such intervention is handheld fan therapy, which works by stimulating trigeminal mechanoreceptors to improve breathing comfort and support physiological adaptation. This study aimed to implement and evaluate the effectiveness of handheld fan therapy based on the Roy Adaptation Model in managing impaired breathing patterns among patients with bronchopneumonia. This study employed a descriptive case study design. The subjects consisted of three pediatric patients diagnosed with bronchopneumonia who met the inclusion criteria. Data were collected through nursing assessment, clinical observation, physical examination, and medical record documentation. The handheld fan therapy intervention was administered twice daily for three consecutive days, with each session lasting 5–10 minutes. Nursing care implementation followed the Indonesian Nursing Diagnosis Standards (SDKI), Nursing Outcome Standards (SLKI), and Nursing Intervention Standards (SIKI). Data were analyzed descriptively to evaluate adaptive response changes in patients. The findings indicated that all patients presented with primary complaints of dyspnea and cough with a nursing diagnosis of impaired breathing pattern. Following three days of intervention, improvements in respiratory status were observed, including decreased respiratory rate, reduced dyspnea levels, decreased cough frequency, improved oxygen saturation, and increased patient comfort. Handheld fan therapy based on the Roy Adaptation Model is an effective non-pharmacological nursing intervention for reducing dyspnea and improving breathing patterns in patients with bronchopneumonia. This intervention has the potential to be integrated into evidence-based nursing practice for respiratory care management.

Abstract

Background: Pneumonia is a major respiratory infection that causes inflammation of lung tissue and excessive mucus production, leading to airway obstruction and impaired respiratory function. In toddlers, anatomical and physiological characteristics such as narrow airways and immature immune responses increase the risk of ineffective airway clearance. Effective management strategies are therefore required to facilitate secretion removal and improve respiratory function. Chest physiotherapy is a non-pharmacological intervention widely used to mobilize airway secretions and enhance pulmonary ventilation. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the application of chest physiotherapy in toddler patients with pneumonia experiencing ineffective airway clearance. Methods: This study employed a descriptive analytic case study design conducted in the pediatric inpatient ward of RSUD Siti Fatimah Az-Zahra Hospital, South Sumatra, Indonesia. The study involved two toddler patients aged between 10 months and 2 years who were diagnosed with pneumonia and experienced ineffective airway clearance. Chest physiotherapy was administered twice daily for three consecutive days with a duration of 10–15 minutes per session. Nursing care followed the standard nursing process, including assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Respiratory parameters such as respiratory rate, body temperature, pulse rate, breath sounds, and airway secretion clearance were assessed before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis to evaluate changes in respiratory status following chest physiotherapy. Results: Both patients demonstrated clinical improvement after the intervention period. Respiratory rate decreased from 60 to 52 breaths per minute in Patient 1 and from 42 to 40 breaths per minute in Patient 2. Breath sounds such as wheezing gradually disappeared, and airway secretions were expelled more effectively. Pulse rate and body temperature also stabilized during the evaluation period, indicating improved respiratory status and airway clearance. Conclusion: Chest physiotherapy can improve airway clearance and respiratory function in toddlers with pneumonia. This intervention may serve as an effective non-pharmacological nursing strategy to support respiratory management in pediatric pneumonia patients.

Abstract

Background: Nurses experience substantial work-related stress due to high workload, organizational demands, and emotional labor in hospital settings. Persistent occupational stress may contribute to burnout, reduced job performance, and compromised quality of care. Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR) has been recognized as a non-pharmacological technique to reduce psychological stress; however, empirical evidence focusing on hospital nurses remains limited. Objective: This study aimed to examine the effect of Progressive Muscle Relaxation on nurses’ work-related stress in a public hospital setting. Methods: A quasi-experimental study with a one-group pretest–posttest design was conducted among 35 nurses at RSUD Siti Fatimah, South Sumatra Province. Total sampling was applied to recruit eligible participants. Work-related stress was measured using the Expanded Nursing Stress Scale (ENSS), consisting of 57 Likert-scale items. The intervention consisted of Progressive Muscle Relaxation administered once daily for seven consecutive days. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and paired sample t-test to compare pre- and post-intervention stress scores. Results: The majority of participants were female (74.3%) and professional nurses (57.1%), with more than three years of work experience (57.1%). The mean stress score decreased from 125 before the intervention to 87.5 after the intervention. The mean difference in stress scores was 35.5 (SD = 13.06), and the paired t-test revealed a statistically significant reduction in stress levels (p = 0.001). Conclusion: Progressive Muscle Relaxation significantly reduced nurses’ work-related stress after seven consecutive sessions. The findings suggest that PMR is a feasible and practical intervention for stress management in hospital settings. Integration of structured relaxation programs into occupational health strategies may enhance nurses’ psychological well-being and support safer clinical practice
