Abstract

Machine performance is a key factor in maintaining productivity and efficiency in various industrial processes. Machines must be kept to ensure efficiency and optimal production capabilities. Therefore, machine performance measurement must be carried out to obtain results that can further improve machine reliability. The research was conducted in the aerospace industry and focused on one of the Mazak Variaxis 630/120 T V-5 CNC Milling machines. This research uses the overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) method, this method is an effective tool for determining and measuring machine performance. The OEE value that has been obtained then analyzes the six big losses in order to determine the losses that have the most impact on causing losses to the machine. The research results show that the average OEE value of this machine in a span of 1 year is 85.83% and meets the JIPM standard. The 2 losses obtained are idling and minor stoppages loss of 14.93% and reduced speed loss of 7.45%. Based on the fishbone analysis, it was found that the machine is a factor that greatly influences idling and minor stoppage loss and the human factor for reduced speed loss.

Abstract

The design of executive chairs for trains was carried out to improve safety, comfort and aesthetics of the train. Seat design innovation was made by prioritizing passenger comfort and paying attention to the S curve of the passenger's spine. This research carried out a redesign of the Indonesian railway executive chair with the added advantage of a chair that can be tilted up to 40° from the initial position of 10°. After the design concept is selected, a simulation will be done on three critical parts of the train seat including chair frame, footrest, and footrest frame. According to investigation, there are facilities tailored to user needs, starting from a folding table, middle arm rest, reclining seat 40°, rotate system 180°, and footrest. The mechanism used for reclining seats with the help of a gas spring to adjust the backrest and a rotate system mechanism with plate bearings. Thus, the seat can be adjusted to the direction of the train's advance. The final chair dimensions of 1101x´1091´x632 mm and material ASTM A36, polypropylene, rubber.

Abstract

Training and competency certification are part of efforts to enhance the quality of human resources, particularly vocational lecturers, in mastering best practices in Preventive and Predictive Maintenance. This program was conducted over a period of twelve (12) days and covered both theoretical and practical aspects of Preventive and Predictive Maintenance, including Maintenance Planning & Scheduling, Vibration Analysis, Thermography, and Total Productive Maintenance. The training was organized through a collaboration between the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology, the Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education (LPDP), and the Indonesian Society of Reliability (ISR). The main objective of this program was to improve lecturers' competencies in Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM), Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), failure analysis using methods such as Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA), and Supply Chain Management (SCM). As a result of the training and certification program, all eleven (11) participants were declared certified and received certification from ISR. This achievement serves as capital to support excellent and globally competitive vocational education.

Abstract

Lebakaso Hamlet, Cikahuripan Village, Cimanggung District, Sumedang Regency, is a hamlet that requires attention in increasing livestock management capacity. The community already has a village organization, the Pasir Sela Forest Farmers Group (KTH), to improve livestock management. A green fodder chopper machine and machine maintenance operation training are needed. The purpose of the Community Service program contract activity is to improve the quality of partners and provide training, implementation methods for problem identification activities, preparing machine designs, machine procurement and manufacture, providing machine operation and maintenance training, and machine handover and activity reporting. The results of the activity have been realized according to plan based on the implementation method of the availability of a chopper machine that has an electric motor drive, is capable of chopping stems and grass, has a filter feature, and speed variations with a choice of pulley sizes and machine construction that can be easily mobilized. The implementation of operation and maintenance training and handover of the chopper machine tool was successfully carried out with PkM KTH Pasir Sela partners. Furthermore, to ensure the allocation of the machine and its utilization, monitoring and evaluation are carried out.

Abstract

Welding is a process of joining two or more metals using thermal energy to melt them. The thermal processes of welded joints affect the phase change and the physical, microstructural, and mechanical properties of the weld. The purpose of the activity, to analyze the results of SMAW welded joints, parameters of current strength, and seam angle of the ST 37 carbon steel microstructure is a continuation of previous publication activities. Variation of the current strength of 90 A, 100 A, 110 A and seam angles of 600 and 700 with electrodes Ø2.6 mm and Ø3.2 mm. During the welding process, a series of thermal cycles of the weld metal and HAZ occur, from thermalization to maximum temperature and then undergoing a cooling process. The final composition of the weld metal, filler metal, and the condition of the air in the weld area are factors for the formation of the microstructure. Microstructures such as acicular ferrite can improve the mechanical properties of the weld metal. Visualization of the microstructure using an optical microscope during the metallographic inspection process was carried out by observing the grain size and phase formed on the base metal, heat-affected zone (HAZ), fusion line (FL), and weld metal (WL). The results showed that the weld metal (WM) with a series of experiments tended to have a larger acicular ferrite structure. The conclusion of the microstructural analysis is that the greater the current strength and seam angle, the more acicular ferrite structures are formed.

Abstract

PLTA prinsipnya memanfaatkan energi kinetik aliran air yang memiliki ketinggian tertentu. PLTA dapat dikelompokan berdasarkan daya yang dihasilkan. PLTPH menghasilkan daya kurang dari 5 kW sehingga kontruksi dan instalasi turbin lebih sederhana dalam pengoprasiannya. Tahun 2021 telah dibuat prototipe PLTPH portabel dengan tipe cross-flow kemudian dikembangkan tahun 2022. PLTPH masih ditemukan beberapa kelemahan, sehingga daya luaran belum tercapai. Modifikasi dilakukan bertujuan memperbaiki kelemahan untuk memperoleh hasil yang lebih efisien, mudah dipasang. Metode pendekatan rancangan teknis, dengan tahapan meliputi kajian rancangan terdahulu, modifikasi rancangan, manufaktur dan pemasangan rangkaian unit. Komponen yang dimodifikasi meliputi rumah turbin, nosel, dan saluran keluar menggunakan plat dan pipa PVC, penepatan rumah bearing, runner turbin. Pembahasan hasil modifikasi dilakukan untuk mempersiapkan pengujian kinerja turbin yang telah dimodifikasi. Hasil modifikasi diperoleh dimensi panjang 226 mm, lebar 240 mm, dan tinggi 310 mm yang dibuat menggunakan pelat dan pipa PVC dan 3D Printing yang menggunakan bahan plastik PLA dan PETG.

Abstract

Organic waste management, particularly from canteens or kitchens, which often consists of leftover meat, fish, and vegetables, remains a significant challenge. If processed properly, this waste has the potential to be used as maggot feed. To process this organic waste, it is necessary to develop an organic waste slurry machine designed to process organic waste from the Pujasera or campus canteen into maggot feed. The development process for this machine includes six stages: Planning, Conceptual design, Detailed design, Technical documentation, Manufacturing and assembly, and Testing. From these stages, a compact organic waste slurry machine is produced with dimensions of 815 x 425 x 840 mm, driven by a 1-phase electric motor with a power of 1.5 HP (1,100 Watts) and a rotation speed of 1,050 RPM. The test results show that this machine is effective in shredding organic waste with a capacity of 24 kg/hour, a maximum power of 1,037 Watts, and an energy consumption of 0.860 kWh. These results provide an innovative and economical solution, promoting the use of organic waste as a valuable resource.

Abstract

Daerah yang berada di dekat kolam retensi Simpang Brimob, yaitu jalan Demang Lebar Daun sering mengalami kemacetan lalu lintas yang cukup panjang yang diakibatkan oleh genangan banjir dari kolam retensi yang meluap. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk melakukan analisis karakteristik genangan banjir di kawasan tersebut dan upaya untuk memitigasi banjir tersebut dengan cara merevitalisasi kolam retensi Simpang Brimob. Dengan bantuan perangkat lunak HEC-HMS dilakukan penelusuran banjir di kolam retensi Simpang Brimob sedangkan perangkat lunak global mapper digunakan untuk visualisasi genangan banjir. Dari hasil penelitian, menunjukkan bahwa kapasitas kolam retensi sebelum direvitalisasi berpotensi meluap dan menggenangi kawasan sekitar karena hanya mampu mereduksi debit banjir menjadi 6,3 m3/s dengan elevasi muka air maksimum adalah +1,30. Mitigasi banjir dengan menggunakan pompa air berkapasitas 500 liter/detik mampu mereduksi debit banjir menjadi 1,0 m3/s dengan elevasi muka air maksimal yaitu +1,20 m. Dengan level muka air yang tidak melampaui level tanggul kolam, membuat Jalan Demang Lebar Daun tidak lagi tergenang. Konsep perencanaan kolam tampungan yang akan dilakukan adalah tubuh kolam direncanakan pasangan batu kali dengan kemiringan 1 : 1, tepi kolam dibuat jalan inspeksi yang dapat difungsikan sebagai jogging track. Tinggi jagaan diambil 0,5 meter.

Abstract

The poultry industry plays a crucial role in meeting the growing global demand for meat. However, the feather plucking process remains a significant challenge, particularly for small-scale poultry farmers who often rely on manual methods that are time-consuming, labor-intensive, and potentially unhygienic. This study aimed to design and construct an affordable and efficient poultry feather plucking machine with a 2 kg processing capacity. The machine was designed using 3D modeling software and constructed using plastic materials for the bucket and rotating disc, and steel for the electric motor mount. The use of plastic components aimed to reduce production costs while maintaining efficiency and minimizing the risk of damage to poultry skin during the plucking process. Functional tests were conducted to evaluate the machine's performance, revealing an average processing time of 28 s per bird, a 30% reduction compared to manual plucking. The machine's efficiency was also assessed, demonstrating a 30% improvement over manual methods. The total production cost of the machine was Rp. 450,000, which is more economical than previous studies. Although the developed machine showed promising results, further study is needed to explore additional parameters such as energy consumption, maintenance requirements, and long-term durability. The incorporation of machine learning algorithms for automated cycle time optimization based on different poultry sizes and feather densities could also be investigated in future studies. Overall, this study contributes to the development of affordable and efficient poultry feather plucking machines, which can benefit small-scale poultry farmers and improve the overall efficiency of the poultry industry.

Abstract

Indonesia has tropical climate characteristics, so it requires a cooling device where the utilization can be used as a room cooler and storage. Cooling machines generally use refrigerant working fluid in the compressor, refrigerant is a gas that is not environmentally friendly. So it is necessary to conduct alternative studies, that can replace refrigerant gas and simplify dimensions, weight, and convenience. This study was conducted to analyze the effect of applying a power supply on the performance of thermoelectric coolers. The experimental method applied 2 types of power supplies for thermoelectric Peltier coolers in cooling the mini cooler box space, then the 1400 ml capacity cooling room was given a varying volume of drinks. Analysis of the effect of using a power supply on the cooling performance of the mini cooler box on the thermoelectric Peltier system obtained the results that the time to reach the ambient temperature takes different times. The greater the load put into the box, the longer it takes to cool the drinking water. The greater the power supply ampere specifications, the better it is in accelerating the cooling rate but the power required is greater such as the application of the type of power supply with the type 20A.
