Abstract

This study aims to evaluate and develop the audiovisual translation (AVT) skills of English education undergraduate students at the University of Mataram. As the dissemination of information increasingly occurs through dynamic online media, mastering AVT techniques has become essential for future language professionals. The study will examine the quality of subtitle translations produced by students, as well as their ability to translate audio content into video captions - a new skill beyond traditional dubbing. By assessing current capabilities, the study seeks to reorient translation course curricula to better balance theoretical knowledge and practical application. Given the rapid technological advances in AVT, this study is critical in ensuring university programs adapt to emerging industry needs. The findings are expected to contribute to improving the quality of AVT education and enhancing the preparedness of English undergraduates to work as professional audiovisual translators. Ultimately, the study aims to empower the next generation of translators with the necessary skills to effectively convey information across multimedia platforms.

Abstract

Background: EFL teaching in Indonesian urban and rural schools have been experiencing persistent challenges due to linguistic, cultural, geographical and resources differences. However, these conditions have not been portraited from ecological persepctive of agency. Therefore, this study examines EFL teacher agency and instructional problem-solving in urban and rural Indonesian classrooms Methodology: This mixed-method study involves 129 EFL instructors (85 from rural schools, 44 from urban schools) who completed a survey, and 35 submitted reflective journals. Quantitative data were assessed using descriptive statistics, and qualitative data were evaluated through thematic analysis. Findings: Both urban and rural EFL teachers faced similar classroom issues like low motivation, vocabulary gaps, and speaking anxiety, though rural teachers linked them to limited resources and urban teachers to distractions and pressure. Urban teachers showed stronger and more consistent agency, especially in autonomy, professional growth, and future goals, while rural teachers drew on deep personal motivation but were often hindered by local challenges. Conclusion: The study shows that teachers’ ecological past experiences, present conditions, and future goals shaped how they solved problems. Rural teachers relied on local resources and flexible strategies, while urban teachers used creative, student-centered methods to build autonomy and global skills, pointing to the need for context-specific support and policies that empower teacher-led innovation. Originality: This study offers how teacher agency is lived out in the everyday problem-solving of EFL classrooms, not just in teachers’ beliefs or intentions. By comparing rural and urban contexts in Indonesia, it reveals how agency looks different across settings and highlights the creativity and resilience of teachers, especially in resource-challenged schools.

Abstract

This study aims to enhance the learning enthusiasm of third-grade students at SD Negeri 25 Ampenan in Pancasila Education through the implementation of digital and concrete learning media, as well as the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) and Project-Based Learning (PJBL) models. The research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) method based on the Kemmis and McTaggart model, which consists of four stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. The learning media used included digital applications such as Wordwall, Canva, and YouTube, as well as various concrete media relevant to the learning material. The results of the study showed a significant improvement in both students’ learning enthusiasm and learning outcomes after the implementation of these media and models. The average student score increased from 60 to 80, accompanied by greater participation and enthusiasm during the learning process. The application of PBL and PJBL effectively developed students’ critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills, while also fostering a sense of responsibility for their own learning process. In addition, the use of technology-based learning media had a positive impact on students’ digital literacy. Through the integration of digital tools in the classroom, students became more skilled at accessing, understanding, and utilizing information creatively and responsibly. This approach aligns with the demands of 21st-century learning, promoting digital competence alongside academic achievement. Thus, the combination of innovative learning media and interactive models such as PBL and PJBL proved effective in creating a more active, collaborative, and enjoyable learning atmosphere. The study concludes that this approach successfully enhances the quality of Pancasila Education while shaping students who are not only academically competent but also possess strong character and uphold Pancasila values.

Abstract

Abstract

This study addresses the challenges English Education students face in developing relationships, motivation, and engaging instruction in English classes. The research design is descriptive qualitative research, and the data collection methods include observation sheets, interviews, and document analysis. The study participants are five students who participated in the Kampus Mengajar or Campus Teaching (KM) program at University of Mataram and seek to identify the problems they encounter in classroom management, how they solve them, and how well they manage their classrooms. The result of both observation and interview founded that there are included six problems faced by KM-5 students during teaching practice i.e., (1) Naughty students, (2) Underestimate the teacher, (3) Hyper active students, (4) Passive students in learning activities, (5) Crowded classes and (6) Bored students. The efforts given by the KM students in dealing with the problems are building good teacher-student relationships, making the lesson more attractive, giving a small gift to catch students' attention, giving word motivation, changing students' seat positions, and making some games related to the topic discussion. The results highlight the need for further support and development opportunities for student teachers to enhance their classroom management skills and teaching practice.
