Abstract

It is undeniable that corruption has become a serious problem for the state of Indonesia. Academic attention to the corruption cannot be underestimated; in which many research reports on corruption are published in scientific journals; which generally look from the perspective of the standing law or religion. Different from these studies, this study will try to examine the concept of corruption from a philosophical point of view through the philosophical theory that has become popular recently i.e worldview theory. Worldview itself is understood as a belief system that guides human life; which can be used as a framework in reading the facts of corruption. This study is expected to be able to provide an explanation of the fundamental structure of the concept of corruption and compile the elements of an Islamic worldview needed in anti-corruption education. This research is library research; data obtained from books, papers and other documentation. The data analysis technique uses the contain analysis method, which is trying to interpret what is written in the text. In addition, comparative analysis will also be used between one text and another. The results of this study are: First, in the Islamic worldview the concept of corruption is closely related to metaphysical concepts such as the concept of God, Sharia (God's rules), sin, the afterlife, reckoning (hisab), retribution; while still affirming concepts in the worldly dimension such as the concept of the state, property, law and justice. Second, these concepts should be included in anti-corruption education.

Abstract

This article describes the structure of the waqf concept from a worldview theory perspective. Worldview is simply a fundamental belief system concerning God, reality, man and truth, ethics, etc.; which serves as a guide for human life. A person's worldview will determine his behavior and actions. The next question is what kind of belief concept makes someone willing to do waqf? This article is a literature review that employs qualitative data with a philosophical approach. The data analysis method employs content analysis of data sources from the library. The result shows that the worldview analysis on waqf is a concept that was emerging from the Islamic worldview whose emergence was supported by various other fundamental concepts such as God, Prophets, Revelation, and Sharia (religion). It proves that the structure of the waqf concept is not as simple as handing over the property to Allah for the benefit of others. The peculiarity of such waqf concept seems impossible to be affirmed by the secular Western worldview, which is unable to affirm the concept of revelation, the Prophet, and religion. It also proves that the philosophical foundation of a waqf concept built on an Islamic worldview is very consistent, solid, and even has a broad spectrum that spans the worldly and the hereafter visions simultaneously.

Abstract

The narrative around the prophet Yusuf is widely regarded as the preeminent story due to its wealth of life teachings, including those pertinent to politics. It is noteworthy that an apostle who ascends to a position of authority in a powerful nation does so from a subordinate position rife with restrictions and capable of involvement in political affairs with the nubuwah attributes associated with such a post. In the range of non-ideal politics today, it is imperative to delve into the prophet Yusuf's political dimensions to provide a valuable resource for political scholars and professionals. The life narrative of the prophet Yusuf and the social dimensions that encompass it are inseparable; thus, this investigation will encompass, to the necessary extent, a variety of disciplines, including tafseer, law, social sciences, psychology, history, economics, management, epistemology, and political philosophy, which is the most prominent. Consequently, the objective of this paper is to expound upon the prophet Yusuf's political theory as elucidated in Surat Yusuf via the lens of multiple academic disciplines. This research is a literature review in which qualitative content analysis is utilized to analyze the data. The results of this study are: Initially, the prophet Yusuf's political career encountered obstacles at the level of family, community, and the center of state. Secondly, the prophet Yusuf's integrity and dedication to the truth, as well as his political acumen, knowledge, and wisdom (God). Furthermore, the stability of a nation is ensured by economic resilience and legal fairness.

Abstract

University-based Pesantren has a distinctive curriculum that develops and integrates the Pesantren system with its academic-university system. This means that the assessment at pesantren universities does not only apply to the academic side but also the boarding (kepesantrenan) side. If the academic side is assessed through the Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA)/Indeks Prestasi Kumulatif (IPK), what about the value of boarding school? We explore the Student Activity Assessment Credit Score (Angka Kredit Penilaian Aktifitas Mahasiswa (AKPAM)) system at Darussalam Gontor University. We designed the qualitative study using a grounded theory approach. We found that AKPAM can counted as a system designed to calculate the kepesantrenan scores of UNIDA students; which is one of the process systems in Integrative Human Resource Development (HRD) typical of UNIDA Gontor; as a pesantren-based university. Second, the AKPAM system is proven to be directly proportional to the HRD theory proposed by Richard Swanson. Third, pesantren-based universities have proven to be competitive in terms of education management in this era. We highlight that this study expands the novel HR management pattern in pesantren universities; as indigenous education.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the cultural identity of pesantren cadres through the rite of self-endowment (waqf basyari) at Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor (PMDG). The research employs a qualitative field methodology with an ethnographic approach. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews with eight informants (two pesantren leaders, four senior cadres, and two junior cadres), and documentation. Data analysis followed Spradley’s ethnographic method, including identifying social domains, semantic relationship analysis, taxonomic analysis, componential analysis, and the identification of cultural themes. The findings reveal that the wakaf diri ritual at PMDG comprises three phases of a rite of passage: separation, liminality, and incorporation. Upon completing these phases, cadres gain a new status as wakaf cadres with a cultural identity encompassing symbolic and intrinsic dimensions. The symbolic identity includes the cadres' daily roles in educating students, assisting the pesantren, and pursuing studies, balanced by entitlements such as welfare as members of the pesantren community. The intrinsic identity consists of three core dimensions: (1) achievements in academic and non-academic fields, (2) dedication through the sacrifice of time, effort, thoughts, and even life, and (3) loyalty manifested as a commitment to PMDG's values, leadership, and system. The intrinsic identity reflects self-development, dedication, and profound love for the pesantren. This ritual shapes cadres who are loyal and uphold the values of the pesantren in their lives.

Abstract

This article aims to analyze and compare the perspectives of Thomas F. Wall and Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas on the concept of natural law, highlighting their differing philosophical traditions. Wall, in “Critical Thinking”, presents a secular understanding of natural law, arguing that it is a human construct originating solely from human reasoning, independent of any divine authority. In contrast, al-Attas, in “Prolegomena to the Metaphysics of Islam”, asserts that natural law, or sunnatullah, is divinely ordained, reflecting God's will in governing the universe while involving human participation. This study employs a philosophical approach grounded in the Islamic worldview to examine and contrast their interpretations, utilizing content analysis to systematically interpret the key arguments in their respective works. The findings reveal a fundamental divergence between the two perspectives: Wall perceives natural law as an innate principle recognized by human reason as the highest moral and ethical authority, whereas al-Attas views it as a manifestation of divine order that governs creation. This contrast underscores the broader epistemological differences between the Western secular and Islamic metaphysical worldviews in understanding the foundation and authority of natural law.

Abstract

Purpose - Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor (PMDG) is one of Indonesia’s most influential Islamic educational institutions, with alumni actively engaged at both national and international levels. This study explores the vision of internationalization at PMDG through the lens of transnational theory. Specifically, it applies both classical (high-politics) and contemporary (low-politics) models of transnationalism to analyze Gontor’s global orientation. Methods - Employing a qualitative content analysis based on literature and official documents, this study identifies key teachings of the kyai (religious leaders) that articulate international ideals. Findings – The findings reveal that PMDG adopts a new-style transnational approach, where education, ethical values, and cultural ideas become the core instruments of global engagement. These ideals are diffused internally through kyai-student interactions and mobilized externally by alumni across various countries and sectors. The study also finds that Gontor’s educational model is influenced by a synthesis of four international institutions: Al-Azhar, Syanggit, Santiniketan, and Aligarh. These form the epistemological foundation for its vision of Islamic global citizenship. Research Implications/ Limitations - include the need for further studies on Islamic educational institutions as soft power agents in international relations. the study lie in its reliance on textual sources, which may not fully capture the lived experiences of santri and alumni. Originality/value of this research lies in its application of transnational theory to analyze a pesantren’s educational vision, a subject rarely explored in prior scholarship.
