Abstract

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs), such as hypertension and diabetes, are the leading causes of death among the elderly in Indonesia. To address this issue, a community service program was conducted in the working area of the Ariodilla Health Center, Palembang, focusing on NCD screening and health education through senior exercise. The program was attended by 45 elderly individuals who underwent health screenings, including blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, and uric acid measurements. The results showed that 15.5% of the elderly were diagnosed with diabetes mellitus, 75.8% had high cholesterol, and 24.4% had elevated uric acid levels. In addition, senior exercise sessions were conducted to improve physical fitness. This program successfully increased the knowledge and awareness of the elderly regarding NCDs, the importance of regular health check-ups, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. In the future, similar programs are expected to be expanded to reach more elderly individuals, aiming to prevent serious complications from NCDs.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Hypertension is one of Indonesia's highest causes of death and is known as the silent killer. Several risk factors for hypertension include age, gender, heredity, and lifestyle. This study aimed to analyze the determinants of hypertension in the elderly in the work area of the Palembang City Health Center.. Methods: This research is an analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design. This research was conducted from March to May 2021 in the working area of the Padang Selasa Health Center, Palembang City. Samples were taken randomly, with the number of samples as many as 106 respondents. Data were collected by interview using a questionnaire and data analysis using the chi-square test and multiple logistic regression. Results: Bivariate analysis showed that the variables statistically significantly related to hypertension in the elderly were heredity history and the incidence of stress with p<0.05. Meanwhile, the results of multivariate analysis showed that heredity (OR=0.089; p=0.0005; 95% CI= 0.033-0.239) was the most dominant factor in the incidence of hypertension in the elderly in the Padang Selasa Palembang Public Health Center working area in 2021. The elderly with a history of heredity have a risk 12 times riskier than those without a history of heredity. Conclusion: The majority of the elderly found with hypertension are female. The determinants of hypertension in the elderly are heredity and stress, and the most dominant factor causing hypertension in the elderly is a history of hereditary hypertension.

Abstract

Korean language learning in the digital age is increasingly important as the global community's interest in Korean culture increases. One of the main challenges in learning Korean is memorizing vocabulary that is very large and has varying levels of difficulty. Traditional methods that are often used, such as manual memorization, are often less effective and tedious, thus lowering learning motivation. The main problem in learning Korean vocabulary is the lack of tools that can support the memorization process effectively and interactively. Many of the traditional methods used, such as jotting down vocabulary in books or manually repeating words, have proven to be less effective because they tend to be monotonous and do not provide direct feedback to the user. Additionally, the method is often poorly structured, making it difficult for users to monitor their progress or identify the vocabulary that needs more attention. The lack of interactive tools also has an impact on learning motivation, where users can quickly get bored or frustrated with slow progress. Therefore, this study aims to develop a web-based application that uses the flashcard method. The development method used is the Waterfall method, which consists of five main stages: needs analysis, system design, implementation, testing, and maintenance. At the needs analysis stage, user needs are identified to ensure that the application can meet their expectations. System design involves creating an optimal interface design, process flow, and database structure. The result of this research is a web-based application that allows users to memorize Korean vocabulary more effectively using the flashcard method. This application is equipped with an evaluation feature that helps users monitor their learning progress.

Abstract

Asphyxia neonatorum is still the third cause of death for newborns in the first week of life. Failure to breathe spontaneously and regularly after birth if not handled properly will be fatal for the baby's life. The purpose of this study was to determine the risk factors and incidence of asphyxia neonatorum. This study uses an analytical survey with a cross sectional approach, using secondary data from the medical record installation of Muhamadiyah Hospital Palembang for the period 1 Sept to 1 Oct 2016 with a total sampling technique of 156 births. statistical analysis using chi-square. The results of the analysis of the incidence of asphyxia neonatorum was 8.3%. There was a significant relationship between amniotic fluid mixed with meconium (p=0,000;OR=21,719) and prolonged second stage (p=0,002;OR=42,600) and asphyxia neonatorum. Early detection through regular antenatal examinations can minimize risk factors and the incidence of asphyxia neonatorum.

Abstract

Maternal and child health (MCH) is a priority in health development, especially in preventing pregnancy complications that may endanger the lives of both mothers and babies. One way to reduce these risks is through routine antenatal care and early detection of complications. However, in some areas, pregnant women still lack understanding of the importance of regular antenatal checks. This community service activity aims to increase pregnant women’s knowledge about the importance of antenatal care and early detection of pregnancy complications at Posyandu Ester 24, a working area of Puskesmas Dua Puluh Tiga Ilir, Palembang, conducted from December 1 to 6, 2024. The activity involved counseling, free antenatal care checks, and training for healthcare workers. The results showed an improvement in pregnant women’s understanding of pregnancy danger signs and the importance of routine healthcare. Antenatal care successfully detected several health risk factors, such as anemia and chronic energy deficiency (CED), allowing for early intervention. Although the main challenge was motivating pregnant women to attend routine checks, the activity successfully increased participation in antenatal care and health education. It is hoped that this activity can serve as a model for other maternal and child health programs in the future.

Abstract

Maternal and Child Health (MCH) surveillance plays a critical role in reducing maternal and infant mortality rates in Palembang City. This study aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the implementation of MCH surveillance at the Padang Selasa Health Center in Palembang, focusing on the health conditions of mothers and children from 2022 to 2024. Using secondary data from annual and monthly reports, the study found that anemia and Chronic Energy Deficiency (KEK) in pregnant women remain significant health concerns. Furthermore, while the exclusive breastfeeding program and Vitamin A distribution showed positive outcomes, immunization coverage has declined in 2024, highlighting potential gaps in access and outreach. The study emphasizes the need for improved healthcare access, more effective nutritional education for pregnant women, and enhancements in the distribution and awareness of immunization programs to reduce maternal and child health risks.

Abstract

Hypertension is a common non-communicable disease with a high prevalence and a significant risk of severe complications if not detected and managed early. In Dusun 02, Tanjung Baru Village, under the jurisdiction of the Tanjung Baru Health Center in Ogan Komering Ulu Regency, many residents are unaware of their blood pressure status and lack knowledge about risk factors and prevention. This community service activity aimed to increase public awareness through health education and conduct blood pressure screening for early detection of hypertension. The methods included educational sessions on hypertension, healthy lifestyle promotion, and on-site blood pressure checks for targeted residents. The results demonstrated an increase in participants’ understanding of hypertension and identified several individuals with elevated blood pressure who had not been previously diagnosed. In conclusion, educational intervention combined with direct screening is an effective approach to raise awareness and enable early detection of hypertension in rural communities.
