Abstract

This study aims to analyze land surface temperature changes on Ambon Island using Landsat 8 imagery data and Google Earth Engine. The research method involves the use of Ambon Island boundary data from the Geospatial Information Agency (BIG) as well as Landsat 8 Collection 2 Tier 1 and Real-Time satellite image data that have been calibrated to reflect the reflectance of the Earth's surface to the atmosphere. The analysis steps include temperature conversion from Kelvin to Celsius, land surface temperature classification, and data export to Arc GIS software. The results showed an increase in land surface temperature associated with urban development in Ambon City, highlighting the importance of sustainable urban planning and good resource management to mitigate the negative impacts of land surface temperature increase and support adaptation to climate change.

Abstract

This study aims to identify potential landslide areas in Nusaniwe Sub-district using the Slope Morphology Method (SMORPH) based on slope and slope shape analysis. The results show that the complex geological and topographical conditions in the area increase the risk of landslides, with areas of high slope and steep slope shapes tending to be landslide hotspots. Interdisciplinary collaboration, community education, and the development of effective mitigation strategies are key in reducing the risk of landslides in Nusaniwe Sub-district and similar areas.

Abstract

The availability of infrastructure, particularly the road network, is a critical factor influencing the spatial distribution and suitability of land for settlement development in Ambon City. This study aims to assess settlement suitability by analyzing the relationship between settlement areas and their proximity to the road network, with a focus on supporting sustainable urban planning. Using road network data and SPOT 6 satellite imagery, the research employs a buffer technique to categorize settlements into three zones based on their distance from the nearest road: less than 100 meters, between 100 and 750 meters, and more than 750 meters. The findings reveal that settlements located within 100 meters of the road network cover 8,538.43 hectares, or 26.21% of the total settlement area. Settlements situated between 100 to 750 meters from roads account for 11,634.20 hectares (35.72%), while those farther than 750 meters from the road network occupy 12,401.05 hectares, representing 38.07% of the total settlement area. These results underscore the critical role that proximity to roads plays in determining the suitability of land for residential development, with a noticeable concentration of settlements closer to transportation infrastructure. The outcomes of this study provide valuable insights for urban planners and policymakers in Ambon City, offering a spatial understanding of settlement distribution that can guide future infrastructure development and land use policies.

Abstract

Ternate City, located in the North Maluku archipelago, Indonesia, has hilly geographical and morphological conditions that make it vulnerable to landslides. This research aims to identify potential landslide risks by utilizing the Digital Elevation Model and slope morphology analysis and provide recommendations for disaster mitigation. This study used Digital Elevation Model (DEM) data obtained from the Indonesian Geospatial Information Agency, as well as land use data extracted from Sentinel 2 satellite imagery. The Slope Morphology (SMORPH) method was applied to analyze the shape and slope, which was then used to generate a landslide potential map. The analysis results show that 1,391.72 hectares of area in Ternate City have a high risk of landslides, with factors such as slope, slope shape, and land use conditions contributing to soil stability. The study also identified the importance of risk mapping and socialization to the community on early signs of landslides to improve preparedness.  This research confirms the need for comprehensive and sustainable mitigation efforts to reduce the impact of landslides in Ternate City. Recommendations include infrastructure strengthening, drainage channel construction, and reforestation in critical areas. The results of this study are expected to serve as a basis for policymakers to formulate more effective disaster mitigation strategies and increase public awareness of the importance of wise environmental management.

Abstract

Teluk Ambon Baguala District, is one of the sub-districts in Ambon City which has experienced a significant increase in population. Along with the increasing population, the need for residential, infrastructure and industrial land is increasing. This will certainly have an impact on the conversion of other cover to uncontrolled built-up land, environmental damage and natural disasters. This study aims to analyze land cover changes in Teluk Ambon Baguala District in 2014, 2018, 2022 and predict land cover models in 2026, 2030 and 2034. The driving factors used are slope, land height and distance from the road. This study uses the CA-Markov method to predict future land cover. The results of the analysis of changes and predictions of land cover in 2014, 2018, 2022, 2026, 2030 and 2034 show that built-up land continues to increase in area along with increasing population and the high demand for built-up land which is increasing.

Abstract

In the era of artificial intelligence, education transformation in Indonesia faces significant challenges and opportunities. Key challenges involve disparities in technology access between regions, curriculum adjustments, and teachers' lack of understanding of artificial intelligence. Meanwhile, opportunities include the potential for personalized learning, responsive curriculum development, and the use of artificial intelligence in learning monitoring. With these dynamics in mind, the transformation of education in Indonesia is not only a response to challenges, but also an opportunity to create a more inclusive and technologically relevant education system. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach using the literature study method. The results of this study discuss the challenges and opportunities of education in the era of artificial intelligence and strategies for implementing educational transformation. The results show that this educational transformation not only offers an opportunity to update the education system, but also to create a learning environment that is more inclusive and relevant to future needs. With the right implementation strategy, Indonesia can optimize the potential of artificial intelligence in improving the quality and accessibility of education across the country.

Abstract

The coastal area of Ternate Island has a high potential for tsunami disasters and complex tectonics. The tsunami on Ternate Island was triggered by an earthquake in the Maluku Sea and the eruption of Mount Gamalama under the sea. The rapid development of Ternate, especially in the tourism sector, such as Loto Agrotourism Village, West Ternate, demands attention to the safety of visitors and residents. The main problem in Loto Village is the lack of evacuation routes, so an effective evacuation strategy is needed to minimize losses during a tsunami disaster. This study aims to determine evacuation routes using UAV data and participatory mapping in Loto Village, Ternate City. UAV aerial photos were processed using photogrammetry techniques with Agisoft Metashape Professional software, producing Ortho-Mosaic Maps and Digital Elevation Model (DEM), which were analyzed in QGIS software. The ortho-mosaic map was overlaid with a tsunami hazard map to create temporary evacuation routes and points (TES), which were confirmed through participatory mapping. The Final Map shows four TESs, which are accessible via footpaths, side roads, and main roads. In the event of a tsunami, tourists and residents in the Lota Agrotourism area can use this map for evacuation. The map can also be an important reference for the government in forming disaster mitigation policies to ensure the safety of tourist destinations that are vulnerable to tsunamis.
