Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

This study is grounded in the importance of recognizing local wisdom-based educational practices that continue to exist amid the forces of modernization and globalization. The research problem focuses on how ethnopedagogical practices are implemented by the stone carving community in Muntilan, Magelang Regency, as an alternative educational model capable of transmitting knowledge across generations in a sustainable manner. The study employs a qualitative approach using a case study method to explore community-based learning processes through family apprenticeship, direct observation, and practical experience that integrates technical skills, aesthetic sensitivity, spiritual values, and Javanese philosophy. The findings reveal a distinctive learning ecology that emphasizes the internalization of tacit knowledge, character formation, and the close relationship between learning processes and socio-cultural life. The community also demonstrates adaptive resilience through its ability to adopt innovation without abandoning core cultural principles. The conclusion confirms that ethnopedagogical practices among the Muntilan stone carvers represent an effective and relevant contextual education model to support the preservation of intangible cultural heritage while addressing the challenges of modern education. The novelty of this study lies in the integration of ethnopedagogy with traditional craft practices as a holistic and sustainable non-formal education system, as well as its contribution to the discourse on decolonizing education and strengthening culturally based vocational education policies.

Abstract

Initial findings indicate a competency gap among pre-service teacher students in the Literary History course, as reflected in their limited ability to appreciate canonical literary works, insufficient knowledge of Indonesian authors, and learning outcomes that have not met expected standards. These issues are influenced by conventional instructional designs, suboptimal use of educational technology, and students’ low reading interest, limited learning autonomy, and inadequate internalization of character values. This study aims to develop an Indonesian Literary History e-module based on Flip PDF Corporate Edition with integrated character values to enhance the literary competence of undergraduate students in Indonesian Language and Literature Education programs. This research contributes to the development of online-based instructional materials that are easily accessible and can be studied anytime and anywhere to improve students’ literary competence. The study adopts a design-based research approach employing the ADDIE instructional design model, consisting of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation stages. Data were analyzed using both qualitative and quantitative methods. The findings demonstrate a significant improvement in students’ literary competence after the implementation of the Flip PDF Corporate Edition–based e-module integrated with character values. The large effect size (rrb = 0.768) further confirms the strong impact of this intervention, indicating its effectiveness in enhancing students’ learning outcomes in the field of literature. Through this e-module, students are able to understand the history of Indonesian literature in an easy, efficient, practical, and comprehensive manner. In addition, the e-module is enriched with infographics and high-quality videos of Indonesian literary works, accompanied by character value analyses of each work, which further enhance students’ literary appreciation. Project-based tasks embedded in the e-module, emphasizing literary literacy activities, also contribute to deeper student understanding of literature.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the urgency of transmitting traditional shrimp paste (petis udang) enterprises as a form of local culture based education from an ethnopedagogical perspective. The research was conducted at the Bawang Merah shrimp paste enterprise in Muncar District, Banyuwangi Regency, which continues to employ traditional production methods and actively involves family members and the coastal community. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews with four groups of informants (the enterprise owner, the owner’s child, workers, and community leaders), and documentation. Data analysis followed the stages of data reduction, data display, and verification, using content analysis, discourse analysis, and interpretative analysis. The findings reveal that the shrimp paste enterprise functions as a non-formal educational space where local knowledge, life skills, and character values such as hard work, patience, responsibility, discipline, and mutual cooperation are transmitted through learning by doing. The inheritance process occurs naturally through role modeling, gradual participation, and collective work interactions, reflecting core principles of ethnopedagogy and cultural enculturation. Nevertheless, the study also identifies potential dysfunctions, particularly limited adaptation to socio-economic changes and a lack of innovation that may affect younger generations’ interest in continuing the enterprise. This research underscores that traditional shrimp paste enterprises serve not only economic purposes but also play a strategic role as local culture–based learning systems that contribute to character formation, cultural identity, and the sustainability of coastal traditions

Abstract

This article examines tajen (cockfighting) and representation of Balinese women in two short stories, “Tajen” (Faisal Baraas, 1971) and “Tajen Terakhir” (Gde Aryantha Soethama, 2016). This topic was chosen because in the world of tajen men are represented of having the absolute power over Balinese women. Selected descriptive qualitative approach, intertextuality approach, and parallel reading data analysis method. Problem solved with new historicism theory. Data in the form of literary text and nonliterature text about tajen. The nonliterature texts as a co-text, such as Balinese folklore, traveling report, Balinese cockfighting manuscript, and research report about tajen. The results concluded three points. First, the world of tajen represented in both short stories were dynamic constellation of a number of aspects, such as male/gambler, betting, rooster, and victory obsession. Second, the obsession with the victory is above family, wife, and children matters. Third, women in the world of tajen become subordinate and sexual objects of men. The tragic fate of women in the world of tajen occurs because of the practice of patriarchy ideology.

Abstract

This research is qualitative descriptive research that aims to (1) describe the elements of humans, nature, and God in the megibung tradition, (2) the relationship between humans, nature, and God in the megibung tradition, (3) describe the transfer of the vehicle for digitising gibing folklore as a type of folklore that is always maintained in the globalisation era. Data collection methods used in this research are documentation, observation (observations in the field), and interviews. The research results show that in the megibung tradition, the elements of humans, God, and nature are interrelated and influence each other. Humans are associated with the presence of God through gratitude and offerings, while the human relationship with nature is reflected in the use of natural resources and awareness of natural balance. This tradition teaches spiritual values, gratitude, and concern for nature as integral to the megibung experience. One of the efforts that can be made so that the gibing tradition remains stable in the digitalisation era is to transfer the vehicle for the gibing tradition from documentation in the form of oral discourse to digitalisation. Through this digital vehicle, people worldwide can get to know and appreciate the richness of Balinese culture and the gibing tradition virtually. It can also be an exciting way to promote tourism and preserve Balinese cultural traditions in the digital age.
