Abstract

This study examines the meaning of self-acceptance and social belonging in the phenomenon of regional language shift among Generation Z in the Gayo region, Aceh Tengah. The declining use of the Gayo language among youth has been accelerated by globalization, modernization, digital media exposure, and the stigma that local languages are considered “outdated” in contemporary social interactions. Unlike previous sociolinguistic studies that emphasized structural and functional factors, this research adopts a psychological perspective by focusing on internal dynamics such as self-acceptance and social belonging. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, this study was conducted in Takengon, Aceh Tengah, involving three Generation Z participants aged 20–23 of Gayo ethnicity. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, behavioral observations, and documentation. Data analysis followed phenomenological procedures including horizonalization, theme clustering, and individual textural description. The findings reveal that although a functional shift toward Indonesian and foreign languages has occurred, participants generally demonstrate positive affective self-acceptance toward their ethnic identity. However, limited Gayo vocabulary and lack of fluency reduce their confidence when interacting with older native speakers, sometimes leading to feelings of inferiority or perceived out-group status in their own cultural setting. Social belonging among participants appears value-centric rather than linguistically centric, rooted in strong family ties and collective memory. Interestingly, digital Gayo-language content functions ambiguously: it strengthens symbolic belonging while simultaneously highlighting participants’ linguistic limitations. The study recommends the creation of safe linguistic spaces to support intergenerational language practice without judgment, fostering both self-acceptance and sustainable cultural continuity.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the validity and reliability of a self-control measurement instrument among senior high school students (SMA/MA) in Medan City. The need for a precise instrument arises from the high intensity of social media use among adolescents, which often leads to addictive behaviors and reduced self-regulation. This research represents the initial phase of a Research and Development (R&D) process, with a specific focus on psychometric evaluation of the instrument. The research subjects consisted of 50 students from grades X, XI, and XII, selected using a survey approach. Data were collected using a self-control scale comprising 12 statement items developed based on three dimensions, namely behavioral control, cognitive control, and decision control. Data analysis was conducted through validity testing using the Pearson Product Moment correlation technique and reliability testing using Cronbach’s Alpha. The validity test results indicated that 11 out of the 12 items met the validity criteria, with item-total correlation coefficients ranging from 0.312 to 0.684, exceeding the critical value of 0.279, while one item was found to be invalid. Furthermore, the reliability analysis produced a Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient of 0.707, which falls within the acceptable reliability range. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the self-control scale demonstrates adequate item discrimination and internal consistency, making it suitable for use.

Abstract

This research investigates the lived realities of election commissioners operating under persistent institutional constraints during a local electoral process. Contemporary electoral research frequently depicts election administrators merely as procedural agents, providing insufficient insight into their ethical and psychological dimensions. This inquiry seeks to elucidate how election commissioners perceive pressure, moral obligation, professional dedication, and self-identity within the context of their daily responsibilities. Employing an interpretative phenomenological framework, information was gathered from six local election commissioners through solicited written responses via electronic mail, facilitating profound contemplation on their professional encounters. The gathered data underwent analysis through reflective thematic evaluation. The outcomes unveil four interrelated themes: ongoing structural pressures necessitating ethical discretion, moral impetus extending beyond mere procedural adherence, organizational allegiance functioning as a psychological safeguard, and the continual evolution of professional identity through ethical introspection. These results suggest that electoral integrity arises from the dynamic interplay between individual values and institutional expectations rather than solely from formal regulations. The study enhances psychological insights into moral agency within public service and underscores the necessity for institutional backing, ethical resilience training, and psychosocial support for election officials.

Abstract

High levels of turnover intention remain a critical issue in organizations, yet existing studies have predominantly focused on workplace factors while overlooking the role of family-based resources. Drawing on the Job Demands–Resources (JD-R) framework, this study addresses this gap by examining family support as an external resource and its influence on turnover intention through job satisfaction. This study aims to analyze the mediating role of job satisfaction in the relationship between family support and turnover intention among employees. A quantitative explanatory design was employed with a sample of 456 employees of PT. XYZ, selected using a proportional sampling technique. Data were collected through validated and reliable questionnaires and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling based on Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). The results indicate that family support has a significant positive effect on job satisfaction and a significant negative effect on turnover intention. Job satisfaction also shows a significant negative effect on turnover intention and partially mediates the relationship between family support and turnover intention. These findings demonstrate that family support not only directly reduces employees’ intention to leave but also indirectly influences it by enhancing job satisfaction. Theoretically, this study extends the JD-R framework by integrating family support as an external resource that contributes to employee retention mechanisms. Practically, the findings emphasize the importance of incorporating family-supportive policies to strengthen job satisfaction and reduce turnover intention, thereby promoting organizational sustainability.

Abstract

English learning independence is currently problematic in carrying out the learning process. English learning independence is certainly influenced by many factors. This study aims to analyze and determine the relationship between teacher interpersonal communication and visual learning styles on students' English learning independence. This study is included in quantitative research with an associative causal nature. The sample of this study was 168 students spread across Saffiyatul Amaliyah students. The research data were collected using a research scale that was declared valid and reliable. The data analysis technique used multiple linear regression analysis. The results of the study showed that (1)There is a relationship between teacher interpersonal communication and students' English learning independence.Based on the results of the study, it was found that the regression coefficient value of the Interpersonal Communication variable (X1) was 0.329, which is positive. This means that Teacher Interpersonal Communication (X1) has a positive effect on English Learning Independence (Y). It is known that the t statistic or t count of Interpersonal Communication (X1) is 4.863> t table = 1.97 and the Sig. value is 0.000, which is <0.05 significance level, then Interpersonal Communication (X1) has a significant effect on English Learning Independence (Y). So it can be concluded that Teacher Interpersonal Communication (X1) has a positive and significant effect on English Learning Independence (Y).(2)There is an influence of visual learning style on students' independence in learning English.Based on the research results, it was found that the regression coefficient value of the Visual Learning Style variable (X2) was 0.106, which is positive. This means that when the Visual Learning Style (X2) increases by 1 unit, the English Learning Independence (Y) tends to increase by 0.106. It is known that the t statistic or t count of the Visual Learning Style (X2) is 1.997> t table = 1.97 and the Sig. value is 0.047, which is <0.05 significance level, then the Visual Learning Style (X2) has a significant effect on English Learning Independence (Y).(3)There is an influence of interpersonal communication between teachers and visual learning styles on students' English learning independence., Based on the results of the hypothesis test that has been carried out, it was found that the calculated F value is 13.965 and the Sig. value is 0.000. It is known that the calculated F value is 13.965 > F table 3.050 and the Sig. value is 0.000 < 0.05, then Interpersonal Communication (X1) and Visual Learning Style (X2) together or simultaneously have a significant effect on English Learning Independence (Y), and the coefficient of determination (R-Square) is 0.145. This value can be interpreted that the variables Interpersonal Communication (X1) and Visual Learning Style (X2) are able to influence English Learning Independence (Y) by 14.5%. it can be concluded that the visual learning style and teacher interpersonal communication together have an effect on English learning independence in students. The contribution of both in influencing learning independence is 14.5%. the remaining 100% - 14.5% = 85.5% is explained by other variables or factors.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

This study examined the influence of self-regulated learning and social support on students’ career maturity. A quantitative design was applied to 132 high school students using psychological scales and analyzed through multiple linear regression. The results showed that self-regulated learning had a positive and significant effect on career maturity (? = 0.785; t = 8.504; p < 0.001), while social support also had a positive and significant effect (? = 0.332; t = 2.671; p = 0.009). Simultaneously, both variables significantly influenced career maturity (F = 90.920; p < 0.001) with a contribution of 58.5% (R² = 0.585). These findings indicate that self-regulated learning is the dominant predictor of career maturity compared to social support. In conclusion, the development of students’ career maturity is more strongly determined by internal readiness through self-regulated learning than by external support alone.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to explore and understand the perception of situationship in young adults experiencing a quarter-life crisis. The method used is a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design to determine the subjective experiences and perceptions developed by respondents. In this study, respondents were selected using a purposive sampling technique, with the following criteria: (1) aged 21–40 years, (2) currently experiencing or having experienced a situationship for at least three months, (3) experiencing signs of a quarter-life crisis, and (4) willing to participate in in-depth interviews. The number of participants was determined based on the principle of data saturation, namely when no new themes were found from the data collection process, amounting to 3 respondents. The results show that young adults experiencing a quarter-life crisis view situationship as a relationship without clear official status that is emotional and often used as a form of escape from life's pressures and uncertainties. In addition, those experiencing situationship also tend to be ambivalent. On the one hand, respondents feel comfort, relief, and emotional closeness. On the other hand, this relationship also causes anxiety, uncertainty, emotional confusion, and insecurity, especially when emotional expectations between the two parties are not balanced. This situation has the potential to cause negative psychological effects, such as anxiety and discomfort, in respondents experiencing a quarter-life crisis if not managed properly. Overall, this study provides an in-depth understanding of young adults' perceptions and experiences of situationship in the context of a quarter-life crisis.
