Abstract

Abstract

This study examined the influence of self-regulated learning and social support on students’ career maturity. A quantitative design was applied to 132 high school students using psychological scales and analyzed through multiple linear regression. The results showed that self-regulated learning had a positive and significant effect on career maturity (? = 0.785; t = 8.504; p < 0.001), while social support also had a positive and significant effect (? = 0.332; t = 2.671; p = 0.009). Simultaneously, both variables significantly influenced career maturity (F = 90.920; p < 0.001) with a contribution of 58.5% (R² = 0.585). These findings indicate that self-regulated learning is the dominant predictor of career maturity compared to social support. In conclusion, the development of students’ career maturity is more strongly determined by internal readiness through self-regulated learning than by external support alone.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to explore and understand the perception of situationship in young adults experiencing a quarter-life crisis. The method used is a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design to determine the subjective experiences and perceptions developed by respondents. In this study, respondents were selected using a purposive sampling technique, with the following criteria: (1) aged 21–40 years, (2) currently experiencing or having experienced a situationship for at least three months, (3) experiencing signs of a quarter-life crisis, and (4) willing to participate in in-depth interviews. The number of participants was determined based on the principle of data saturation, namely when no new themes were found from the data collection process, amounting to 3 respondents. The results show that young adults experiencing a quarter-life crisis view situationship as a relationship without clear official status that is emotional and often used as a form of escape from life's pressures and uncertainties. In addition, those experiencing situationship also tend to be ambivalent. On the one hand, respondents feel comfort, relief, and emotional closeness. On the other hand, this relationship also causes anxiety, uncertainty, emotional confusion, and insecurity, especially when emotional expectations between the two parties are not balanced. This situation has the potential to cause negative psychological effects, such as anxiety and discomfort, in respondents experiencing a quarter-life crisis if not managed properly. Overall, this study provides an in-depth understanding of young adults' perceptions and experiences of situationship in the context of a quarter-life crisis.

Abstract

Parenting a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) presents unique challenges that can lower parents' self-confidence and self-efficacy. While social support is considered a crucial external factor, its effectiveness in boosting self-confidence often depends on internal factors, such as emotional intelligence. The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating role of emotional intelligence in the relationship between social support and self-confidence in parents of children with autism. This study used a quantitative approach with a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected from respondents, parents of children with autism, using instruments such as the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS). Data analysis was performed using Structural Equation Modeling with Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). The results of a study of 153 parents of autistic children showed that social support influenced self-confidence by 51.7% with a p value <0.001. Social support influenced emotional intelligence by 57.3% with a p value <0.001, and emotional intelligence influenced self-confidence by 36.5% with a p value <0.001. Thus, it can be concluded that increasing social support can increase the self-confidence of parents of autistic children through their emotional intelligence.

Abstract

This study examines the meaning of self-acceptance and social belonging in the phenomenon of regional language shift among Generation Z in the Gayo region, Aceh Tengah. The declining use of the Gayo language among youth has been accelerated by globalization, modernization, digital media exposure, and the stigma that local languages are considered “outdated” in contemporary social interactions. Unlike previous sociolinguistic studies that emphasized structural and functional factors, this research adopts a psychological perspective by focusing on internal dynamics such as self-acceptance and social belonging. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, this study was conducted in Takengon, Aceh Tengah, involving three Generation Z participants aged 20–23 of Gayo ethnicity. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, behavioral observations, and documentation. Data analysis followed phenomenological procedures including horizonalization, theme clustering, and individual textural description. The findings reveal that although a functional shift toward Indonesian and foreign languages has occurred, participants generally demonstrate positive affective self-acceptance toward their ethnic identity. However, limited Gayo vocabulary and lack of fluency reduce their confidence when interacting with older native speakers, sometimes leading to feelings of inferiority or perceived out-group status in their own cultural setting. Social belonging among participants appears value-centric rather than linguistically centric, rooted in strong family ties and collective memory. Interestingly, digital Gayo-language content functions ambiguously: it strengthens symbolic belonging while simultaneously highlighting participants’ linguistic limitations. The study recommends the creation of safe linguistic spaces to support intergenerational language practice without judgment, fostering both self-acceptance and sustainable cultural continuity.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the validity and reliability of a self-control measurement instrument among senior high school students (SMA/MA) in Medan City. The need for a precise instrument arises from the high intensity of social media use among adolescents, which often leads to addictive behaviors and reduced self-regulation. This research represents the initial phase of a Research and Development (R&D) process, with a specific focus on psychometric evaluation of the instrument. The research subjects consisted of 50 students from grades X, XI, and XII, selected using a survey approach. Data were collected using a self-control scale comprising 12 statement items developed based on three dimensions, namely behavioral control, cognitive control, and decision control. Data analysis was conducted through validity testing using the Pearson Product Moment correlation technique and reliability testing using Cronbach’s Alpha. The validity test results indicated that 11 out of the 12 items met the validity criteria, with item-total correlation coefficients ranging from 0.312 to 0.684, exceeding the critical value of 0.279, while one item was found to be invalid. Furthermore, the reliability analysis produced a Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient of 0.707, which falls within the acceptable reliability range. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the self-control scale demonstrates adequate item discrimination and internal consistency, making it suitable for use.

Abstract

Technological developments have made online gaming a part of teenagers' lifestyles, but excessive use can trigger addiction (gaming addiction). This phenomenological qualitative study aims to explore the meaning of online gaming addiction among teenagers, its relationship with self-identity, motivation to play, and social interaction patterns. The research subjects were three individuals (aged 13 – 16 years) who played online games for more than three hours per day and were active at least four to five times a week, using purposive sampling techniques. Data were collected through observation and interviews with research respondents. The results showed that online games are perceived as a space for virtual identity construction, emotional regulation, and alternative social interaction. Adolescents with online gaming addiction experience shifts in self-identity, gaming motivations driven by challenge, stress avoidance, and the need for recognition, as well as significant changes in social interaction patterns, particularly reduced quality of family relationships. This study highlights that online gaming addiction affects not only individual behavior but also adolescents’ real-life social dynamics.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effect of emotional intelligence on adolescents’ dating behavior, with the parent–child relationship as a mediating variable. Adolescent dating behavior is influenced by emotional regulation abilities and the quality of relationships with parents. This research employed a quantitative approach using an explanatory survey design and mediation analysis. The participants consisted of 209 twelfth-grade students from SMK Imelda Medan. Data were collected using emotional intelligence, parent–child relationship, and dating behavior scales developed in a 4-point Likert format. The results of validity testing indicated that all items were valid, while reliability analysis showed Cronbach’s Alpha coefficients exceeding 0.70, indicating good reliability. The findings revealed that emotional intelligence had a significant direct effect on adolescents’ dating behavior. Furthermore, emotional intelligence also demonstrated a significant indirect effect on dating behavior through the parent–child relationship, confirming its mediating role. These results suggest that higher emotional intelligence, supported by positive parent–child relationships characterized by emotional closeness, open communication, and a sense of security, contributes to healthier and more adaptive dating behavior among adolescents. This study contributes to the field of adolescent developmental psychology by providing empirical evidence on the psychological mechanisms linking emotional intelligence and dating behavior, particularly in the context of vocational secondary education. The findings also have practical implications for schools, parents, and psychology practitioners in developing intervention programs that focus on strengthening emotional intelligence and enhancing the quality of parent–child relationships to promote healthy adolescent dating behavior aligned with prevailing social values.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the role of parents in shaping emotional regulation and independence in early childhood at TK Bhineka Tunggal Ika. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach. The research subjects consisted of five parents of children aged 4–6 years who were directly involved in daily caregiving, supported by information from classroom teachers. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and participant observation. The findings indicate that each subject applied different parenting practices in supporting children’s emotional regulation and independence. Emotional regulation was developed through warm emotional responses, parental role modeling, and communication that helped children recognize and express their emotions. Children’s independence was fostered through daily habituation, opportunities for autonomous practice, and positive reinforcement. Supporting factors included parental patience and awareness, while inhibiting factors involved time constraints and parental fatigue. This study highlights that the quality of parental involvement plays a crucial role in promoting emotional regulation and independence in early childhood.
