Abstract

Abstract: This paper discus the discourse of religious harmony in Indonesia by looking into the role played by PKUB/FKUB, a state-sponsored body focused on maintaining religious harmony, in the context of interreligious dialogue agenda in Indonesia. By looking into its trajectory and legal standing, this paper hypothesizes that there are some limits within the PKUB/FKUB in addressing the spirit and practice of interreligious dialogue to the Indonesian public due to the preference of religious harmony rather than interreligious dialogue. This paper then wants to explore the preference of religious harmony by employing Godly-Nationalism/Productive Intolerance concept. The data of this paper is collected by library research methodology. Finally, this paper suggests that despite the discourse of religious harmony requires the religious community to engage in the dialogue, there is a different direction and objective to which the dialogue would lead. While the dialogue in the context of religious harmony would be directed to maintaining harmony itself, the interreligious dialogue as suggested by several scholars requires religious people to learn from others to change and grow together. Keywords: Interreligious Dialogue, Religious Harmony, PKUB, FKUB, Godly- Nationalism.

Abstract

This article describes the various forms of Islamic philosophy because some scholars claim that philosophical thought in Islam has declined after Ghazâlî's criticism. This library research uses qualitative method and historical approach, and focuses on examining the distinctive characteristics of each school of Islamic philosophical thought by emphasizing its epistemological aspects. This article shows that philosophy in Islamic world is very dynamic and not in a single character. In each period, the Islamic philosophy reveals a variety of patterns. To facilitate the discussion, this article is elaborated on a series of times and examines the distinctive patterns of epistemology that developed in each epoch. Although ontologically they are similar, there are epistemic differences in the philosophy developed by Muslim philosophers: Peripateticism, which dominated during the classical Islamic period (850-1250); 'Irfânâyah and two schools of wisdom (al-h}ikmah al-ishraqîyah/illumination theosophy and al-h}ikmah al-muta'âlîyah/transcendent theosophy), which dominated in the medieval Islamic period (1250-1850); and the school of al-h}ikmat al-ladunîyah/perennialist theosophy and al-'aqalîyah in the contemporary Islamic period (1850-present). This diversity emerged as a response to different challenges and adaptations to local situations.

Abstract

Many Islamic movements have emerged with a different style from the mainstream. One of them is the Salafi movement. Although many parties reject Salafi preaching, not a few can also accept it, one of them is a group of artists who are growing their religious passion. They are known as hijra celebrities. This article discusses the process of acceptance of Salafi da'wah among hijra celebrities. This research is field research with a descriptive qualitative approach. The primary data of this study were obtained from in-depth interviews with preachers and celebrities who attended Salafi recitations. The research subjects were determined purposively after observing several Hijra artists. This research also utilizes various literature related to the Salafism theme and the phenomenon of Hijra celebrity. The results show that social media plays an important role in encouraging the development of the Hijra movement. Social media has connected Hijra celebrities with Salafi preachers. Some of the celebrities interviewed admitted that their interest in attending Salafi studies grew after listening to recitations through social media. Thus, Hijra celebrities are actively seeking and receiving Salafi preaching.

Abstract

Pesantren as subcultures are indeed interesting to be studied. Several studies have been carried out such as Zamakhsary Dhofier on the network of pesantren in Java and Martin van Bruinessen on the pesantren and tarekat. Continuing it, Ading Kusdiana through her dissertation at Padjadjaran University conducted a research on the network of Pesantren in the Priangan region (West Java), focusing on the existence and continuity of Pesantren through five inter-Islamic networks: scientific networks, marriage, genealogical, congregational religious views, and the similarity of the vision of opposition to the invaders. Kusdiana's research confirmed Zamakhshari Dhofier's theory and did not refute it at all. So that this feels like a new work with a sense of "old work". The study of this theme will be even more interesting if Kusdiana uses the new genealogical theory as Yudi Latif did. This will also portray changes and continuity in the network of Pesantren. However, Kusdiana’s work deserves to be appreciated because it presents a lot of new data-information regarding the traces and spreads of Pesantren in Priangan. Through thiswork, we can get a relatively completed picture of the world of Pesantren in Priangan in the 1800-1945 period. Keywords: Network of Pesantren, Genealogy Theory, Pesantren in Priangan Pesantren sebagai subkultur memang menarik dikaji.

Abstract

This research is based on the idea of the need for the development of self-reliant enterprises in educational institutions (Islamic boarding schools) to create institutional and graduate independence. Based on this, the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia (MORA) created a program in 2021 related to the development of vocational life skills and self-reliance for Islamic boarding schools. This study includes field research where data is obtained through participatory observation, field documentation, and in-depth interviews using a qualitative approach and qualitative descriptive analysis method. This research presents several new findings: First, the concept of vocational life skills is realized through a Business Incubation program based on household products. Second, the Legal Entity of Islamic Boarding School Enterprises (BUMPES) accommodates various units for the development of small businesses that optimally assist in production management and marketing of creative products from Islamic boarding schools to the general public. Third, training or workshops are provided to students (santri) as workers or human resources involved in this small business process, involving the required experts. Fourth, there are still shortcomings in empowering student workers in this business development because human resource management is needed in production management. This program has provided a beneficial contribution to the progress of Islamic boarding school education, particularly in enhancing the quality of vocational life skills education and understanding of the business world or micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Abstract

This paper examines the religious dynamics image in contemporary Indonesia was presented by the printed mass media. Using van Dijk's critical discourse analysis method, and the hierarchy of influence media content of Pamela Shoemaker and Stephen Reese, this paper examines the content of popular articles in the Kompas and Republika for the period 2013-2017. These two print media were chosen because they are two different ideological poles. Kompas was born from Catholic activists and supported by several military officers. Meanwhile, Republika was founded by Islamic activists with government support. The themes of popular articles in both media revolve around issues of the state and democracy, political dynamics and Islamic parties, and spirituality. The religious discourse contest at Kompas and Republika was filled with Muslim scholars and leaders of Islamic mass organizations. Kompas does not provide enough space for new writers so that its popular articles are filled by monotonous scholars. On the other hand, Republika has promoted many new writers. However, Republika also features internal writers. Popular articles from Kompas and Republika put forward a moderate religious face. However, Republika seems to emphasize the Islamic side more, while Kompas appears to be more inclusive.

Abstract

The peaceful transformation of the Republic of the United States of Indonesia (RIS) into the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) represents a defining milestone in the nation’s post-independence trajectory. This study examines the pivotal role of Mohammad Natsir, a leading Islamic intellectual and statesman, who initiated the Integral Motion that catalyzed Indonesia’s reunification. Through historical and socio-political analysis, this research explores the political strategies, diplomatic negotiations, and moral convictions that shaped Natsir’s leadership during this critical period. Utilizing a qualitative methodology rooted in the social scientific history paradigm, the study combines historical inquiry with structuralist theory to analyze both the internal fragmentation and external pressures that Indonesia faced in the early years of its independence. The findings reveal Natsir's instrumental role not only as a political leader but also as a key architect of national integration. His ability to mediate between federalist and unitarian forces, while maintaining a vision grounded in moral and ideological commitment, proved crucial in resolving divisive tensions. By fostering consensus among RIS constituent states, Natsir’s initiative laid the groundwork for a unified Indonesian state, steering the nation toward political consolidation and stability. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of Indonesia’s early state-building efforts and underscores the urgent need to revisit and recognize the foundational roles of key national figures in shaping modern Indonesia. In an era of renewed interest in national identity and cohesion, Natsir's legacy offers valuable insights into leadership, diplomacy, and the pursuit of unity through peaceful means.
