Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine whether the application of the problem based learning (PBL) learning model is better than the understanding of mathematics concepts of students with conventional learning models in grade V/II students of SMP Negeri 5 Kubung. The type of research used is true experimental design using a posttest only control group design. The population in the study consisted of all grade VII students of SMPN 5 Kubung. The sample was selected using a random sampling method. The instrument used to collect data in this study was a post-test in the form of essay questions. Data analysis was carried out using a one-tailed t-test (right side). Based on the results of the hypothesis test, it was pbtained t count = 2,121 and t table = 1.681 at a significance level of a = 0.05, so t count> t table, so the hypothesis can be accepted. Based on the results of the study,it shows that students' understanding of mathematics concepts by applying the PBL model is better than students' understanding of mathematics concepts using conventional learning models.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the many mistakes made by students in solving story problems. The purpose of this study was to find out the mistakes made by students in solving story problems on Trigonometry material and to find out the causes of errors made by students in working on story problems on Trigonometry material. This research method uses a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. The subjects of this study were students of class X IPS SMA PGRI 3 Padang in the 2020/2021 academic year who had been selected by total sampling. Instruments used for data collection in the form of tests, interviews, and documentation. The test results were analyzed based on the error according to Newman. The results showed that some students made mistakes in understanding, errors in transforming, errors in processing skills, errors in writing the final answer. The cause of this error is that students do not know what is actually being asked in the problem, and accidentally get information on the question, so they cannot complete the information for the next step, do not understand how it turns into a question. mathematical models, and not proficient in counting. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi dengan banyaknya kesalahan yang dilakukan peserta didik dalam menyelesaikan soal cerita. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui kesalahan yang dilakukan siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal cerita  pada materi Trigonometri dan mengetahui penyebab terjadinya kesalahan yang dilakukan oleh siswa dalam mengerjakan soal cerita pada materi Trigonometri. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Subjek penelitian ini siswa kelas X IPS SMA PGRI 3 Padang Tahun Ajaran 2020/2021 yang telah dipilih secara total sampling. Instrument yang digunakan untuk pengumpulan data berupa tes, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Hasil tes dianalisis berdasarkan kesalahan menurut Newman. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan sebagian siswa melakukan kesalahan dalam memahami, kesalahan dalam mentransformasi, kesalahan dalam keterampilan proses kesalahan penulisan jawaban akhir. Penyebab kesalahan ini adalah siswa tidak mengetahui apa yang sebenarnya ditanyakan dalam soal, dan tidak sengaja mendapatkan informasi pada soal tersebut, sehingga mereka tidak dapat melengkapi informasi untuk langkah selanjutnya, tidak mengerti bagaimana menjelma menjadi sebuah pertanyaan. model matematika, dan tidak mahir dalam menghitung.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low ability of SMPN 1 IV Koto Aur Malintang students to understand mathematical concepts. These students struggle to solve practical exercises that deviate from the examples provided by the teacher and their low active engagement during learning. This affects the students' low learning performance and does not meet the KKTP defined by the school. This study aims to determine the effect of the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model supported by the Geogebra class on the understanding of mathematical concepts of 8th grade students of SMPN 1 IV Koto Aur Malintang. This study uses a true post-test experimental design with a single control group. The research sample consists of Grade VIII.1 as the control group and Grade VIII.2 as the experimental class. The instrument used in this study is a post-test in the form of essay questions with a reliability of 0.895. The post-test data analysis shows that the data from the experimental class are not normally distributed. Therefore, the Mann-Whitney test was continued using Minitab version 19, with a p-value of 0.145 at a significance level of . Since the p-value > , is accepted and , is rejected. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that students’ understanding of mathematical concepts when applying the project-based learning model of Geogebra Classroom is not better than their understanding of mathematical concepts when applying the conventional learning model in class VIII SMPN 1 IV Koto Aur Malintang.
