Abstract

This study aimed to examine the relationship between learning styles, learning independence, and learning interest with biology learning outcomes among Grade X students at SMA Negeri 5 Palu. This research used a quantitative approach with a correlational method. A total of 176 students were selected using proportional random sampling. The instruments used were questionnaires and documentation of biology scores. Data analysis involved validity tests, reliability tests, normality tests, Pearson correlation, and multiple linear regression. The results showed a significant relationship between learning style (r = 0.668), learning independence (r = 0.747), and learning interest (r = 0.732) with biology learning outcomes (p < 0.05). Multiple regression analysis revealed that the three variables simultaneously influenced learning outcomes, with the regression equation Y = 9.771 + 0.502X₁ + 0.314X₂ + 0.357X₃ and R² = 0.656. This indicates that the three independent variables contribute 65.6% to the variance in biology learning outcomes. The findings highlight the importance of internal student characteristics in academic achievement, especially in biology learning.

Abstract

This study aims to improve students' learning outcomes in Biology for Grade X students of SMK Manbaul Hikmah through the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach using a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection stages. Data were collected through observation sheets of teacher and student activities as well as learning outcome tests administered at the end of each cycle. The results indicate that the application of the PBL model significantly improved students' learning outcomes. In Cycle I, classical learning mastery reached 85%, while in Cycle II it increased to 92%. The 7% improvement in classical mastery demonstrates that the PBL model is effective in encouraging students to think critically, collaborate, and solve problems related to contextual learning materials. In addition, students' activity and engagement during the learning process showed continuous improvement in each cycle. Therefore, the Problem Based Learning model can be considered an effective alternative for improving Biology learning outcomes of Grade X students at SMK Manbaul Hikmah.

Abstract

This study aimed to identify mangrove species occurring in Kaili Beach, Boyantongo Village, South Parigi District. The research employed a descriptive method with a qualitative approach using a field exploration survey. Species identification was conducted based on observations of morphological characteristics, including roots, stems, leaves, flowers, and fruits, supported by measurements of environmental physical parameters such as air temperature (28 °C), salinity (32 ppt), soil pH (7), water pH (6.2), and relative humidity (72% RH). The results revealed that the mangrove vegetation at Kaili Beach comprised five orders, namely Malpighiales, Myrtales, Lamiales, and Sapindales, and four families, including Rhizophoraceae, Lythraceae, Acanthaceae, and Meliaceae. A total of eight mangrove species were identified: Rhizophora apiculata Blume, Rhizophora mucronata Lamk., Ceriops tagal (Perr.) C.B.Rob., Bruguiera gymnorrhiza (L.) Lamk., Sonneratia alba Smith., Avicennia marina (Forsk.) Vierh., Xylocarpus moluccensis Pierre., and Xylocarpus granatum J. Koenig. The presence of these mangrove species indicates that the physical and chemical parameters of Kaili Beach remain within the ecological tolerance range for mangrove growth. However, the slightly acidic water pH (6.2) suggests that habitat conditions are not yet fully optimal.

Abstract

Lichens are associations between fungi and photosynthetic symbionts, such as algae or cyanobacteria, that form stable and specialized thallus structures. The fungi that predominantly compose the lichen body belong to the Ascomycetes, while the algal partners contribute to the overall structure. This association enhances the ability of both fungi and algae to survive in suboptimal environmental conditions because the thallus structure, physiology, and chemical synthesis of lichens differ from those of the individual fungi or algae that constitute them. Lichens are lower plants that occur in various habitats worldwide and dominate terrestrial ecosystems, covering approximately 8% of the Earth’s land surface. Globally, around 20,000 lichen species have been reported, whereas in Indonesia, 595 species or about 3% of the world’s total have been documented. This study aimed to identify lichen species based on their substrates in the Bale Village area, Tanantovea District, Donggala Regency. The sampling method used was the exploration method. Lichen samples were collected from various substrates, followed by direct macroscopic observations to identify the species obtained. Research sites were determined using purposive sampling, selected based on the environmental conditions and the diversity of substrates where lichens grow. Three locations were designated as research stations: Station 1 (residential area), Station 2 (forest and river area, partly used as a tourist site), and Station 3 (forest area and local plantations). The results of this study identified 10 lichen species belonging to 5 families and found on 3 types of substrates. Environmental parameter measurements at the research sites showed an average temperature of 27.66°C, air humidity of 66%, and light intensity of 828.66 cd. These values indicate warm, humid conditions with moderate to highlight intensity conditions generally optimal for the growth and development of lichens.
